hi I was wondering if somebody might tell me why in my bootstrap here that my thumbnail isn't showing up like it does here http://getbootstrap.com/components/#thumbnails-custom-content, with the image and caption on top of the thumbnail.

<div class="thumbnail">

Hello all, Please I have a ul list that I added toggle to using Javascript
and set display to none using Css and everything is working fine.
I am looking for the javascript to make the link display (not collapsed) on the next page
when the links under the parent menu is clicked. So they are collapsed by default but when any of the links
clicked and the page loads, the links would not be collapsed as it was initially when the page was first visited. Thanks
Here's my current markup

<ul>
<li>Main Title
<ul>
<li>
<a href="#">link 1 </a>
</li>
<li>
<a href="#">link 2 </a>
</li>
<li>
<a href="#">link 3 </a>
</li>
</li>
</ul>
</ul>

<style>
ul li ul{ display: none; }
</style>

<script>
$('li').click(function(e){
$(this).children('ul').slideToggle();
e.stopPropagation();
});
</script>

Lucas Scalzo
@Lu314
Mar 04 2017 00:35
@JohnnyBizzel the 2 needs to be in there somewhere though

this is the entire instructions The remainder operator % gives the remainder of the division of two numbers.

Example

5 % 2 = 1 because
Math.floor(5 / 2) = 2 (Quotient)
2 * 2 = 4
5 - 4 = 1 (Remainder)
Usage
In mathematics, a number can be checked even or odd by checking the remainder of the division of the number by 2.

17 % 2 = 1 (17 is Odd)
48 % 2 = 0 (48 is Even)
Note
The remainder operator is sometimes incorrectly referred to as the "modulus" operator. It is very similar to modulus, but does not work properly with negative numbers.

Instructions
Set remainder equal to the remainder of 11 divided by 3 using the remainder (%) operator.

@MikeyZee variables you create inside a function are not accessible from the outside. You can make global variables and then modify them inside functions. This would work since global variables are accessible everywhere.

You see how we made all of your button elements bounce? We selected them with $("button"), then we added some CSS classes to them with .addClass("animated bounce");.

You just used jQuery's .addClass() function, which allows you to add classes to elements.

First, let's target your div elements with the class well by using the $(".well") selector.

Note that, just like with CSS declarations, you type a . before the class's name.

Then use jQuery's .addClass() function to add the classes animated and shake.

For example, you could make all the elements with the class text-primary shake by adding the following to your document ready function:

@johnsonstacia8 no, inside the opening div tag
like you've assigned other classes before, goes inside the opening tag
@CyanCool the classes need to be strings, you forgot the quotes and also the semi-colon at the end

@longcivix - your font-size: 30; is not properly formed - it should be in a class or for an element, so it would be something like:

.big-text {
    font-size: 30px;
}

But I'll have to go and check the instructions on that lesson to make sure.

@andoreilly - you have an illegal CSS construct in there with that font link. Move the URL into the CSS config panel and remove it from the CSS text input panel, for starters.

@longcivix - they want you to set up a selector for p elements, and set the font-size to 16px, so it would be a little different from what I just posted -

p {
    font-size: 16px;
}

Will select all p elements. They also want you to add a second p element with the text that they give.

@andoreilly - okay, I'll go back to look at it, that was just the first thing that was clobbering your CSS input.

@andoreilly - on the CSS panel, the pulldown on the right has a "Analyze CSS" option. You should run that. Don't pay too much attention about the "Don't use IDs in selectors" warnings, but there are other invalid CSS properties in your code.

I'm not sure if this question will make sense but -- When doing these examples, it automatically changes the order of the code and fills things in. Will this start to make you rely too heavily on the freecodecamp and not get the full effect of coding? Or will it start to become harder and more self reliant?

@longcivix add a second <p> element, they give you the text to put in it. Make it similar to the first one that they have - add the text Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched. It should have a <p> at the beginning and </p> at the end of that text.

@Kalculat3 - things start to ramp up in difficulty after you get a good base of code. It's not as easy as it looks for some people - you might just breeze through it up to a point. The idea is to give you frameworks for doing "simple" things to get your feet wet. Some people breeze through it, others struggle with some parts very early on.

@khaduch Yeah, that makes sense. I've dabbled in a couple HTML and CSS books prior to this a while back, so I guess that makes the beginning stuff a lot easier. I haven't gotten into anything much past beginner/maybe partially intermediate. It's hard to teach yourself when I get stuck and think: "What am I going to do with this?" Margaret
@Margaret2
Mar 04 2017 03:52
so that's just color: ....;
well, actually it depends what the instructions say, do they say to do color or background-color?
ulam10
@ulam10
Mar 04 2017 03:54
background color
Here are the instructions:

For example, if you wanted an element's background color to be green, you'd put this within your style element:

.green-background {
background-color: green;
}
Create a class called silver-background with the background-color of silver. Assign this class to your div element.

@Bahnzo - try removing the <form> element - rather, just change it to <div> and </div> for your wikipedia project. Submitting a form causes the default action of attempting to reload the page, so you don't really want that.

@Foksler this is not how you add two or more classes to an element. You add them in the same double/single quotes with a space between them class = "class1 class2", because class takes only one value between quotes.

@Bahnzo - okay, got it... move your load of wikiview.js down to just before the </body> tag - I think that it is just a problem with the element not being defined when the script was run. You could also probably wrap your function is $(document).ready(). I think that the way it is being processed on CodePen is doing something different. Posibly because your HTML is not really valid for CodePen - it is loading things differently.

Excuse me, can anyone tell me why this does not work?
It is from the Javascript challenge "Word Blanks"
Code starts below:

function wordBlanks(myNoun, myAdjective, myVerb, myAdverb) {
var result = "";
// Your code below this line

result = "The "myAdjective" "myNoun" "myVerb" "myAdverb".";

// Your code above this line
return result;
}

// Change the words here to test your function
wordBlanks("deck of cards", "new", "was dealt", "quickly");

@fortMaximus here's the premise:
take this 'idea' process' from Altucher's blog and makes it into a site. People can post their ideas and other's comment on them, vet and vote.. so good ideas rise to the top and those that are not quite 'fully baked' get feedback and comments... http://www.jamesaltucher.com/2014/05/the-ultimate-guide-for-becoming-an-idea-machine/
each person who has a login can also do profile stuff similar to what they have at catch-a-fire.. list what they are good at (coding, writing business plans etc): https://www.catchafire.org/ so there's people who actually can comment on things and add feedback...
long term it would be cool if it integrated with kickstarter or indie-gogo but by 'helping' voting or commenting you get some of the perks in lieu of putting upo moolah...
this would ulitmately create an idea database for people who want to help out other people's ideas..

@mpochiro is this class= "smaller-image {width: 100px} how it tells you to do it?
ZaheemHasan
@ZaheemHasan
Mar 04 2017 06:35

CSS has a property called width that controls an element's width. Just like with fonts, we'll use px (pixels) to specify the image's width.

For example, if we wanted to create a CSS class called larger-image that gave HTML elements a width of 500 pixels, we'd use:

<style>
.larger-image {
width: 500px;
}
</style>
Create a class called smaller-image and use it to resize the image so that it's only 100 pixels wide.

Note
Due to browser implementation differences, you may need to be at 100% zoom to pass the tests on this challenge.

where should i out width element?

@ZaheemHasan you alreday defined the class in you style tags, you just have to use the class name on the image
ZaheemHasan
@ZaheemHasan
Mar 04 2017 06:43
Your img element should have the class smaller-image.
Your image should be 100 pixels wide. Browser zoom should be at 100%.
Ohh lemme try that
Sorin Ruse
@sorinr
