The div element, also known as a division element, is a general purpose container for other elements.

The div element is probably the most commonly used HTML element of all. It's useful for passing the CSS of its own class declarations down to all the elements that it contains.

Just like any other non-self-closing element, you can open a div element with <div> and close it on another line with </div>.

Try putting your opening div tag above your "Things cats love" p element and your closing div tag after your closing ol tag so that both of your lists are within one div.

Nest your p elements inside your div element.
Nest your ul element inside your div element.
Nest your ol element inside your div element.
Make sure your div element has a closing tag.
pls help

Hey all
With this jquery string \$(".target:nth-child(3)").addClass("animated bounce"); what are valid targets?
Ok so I actually just managed to pass the level but I'm still confused how that works

<script>
\$(document).ready(function() {
\$("#target1").css("color", "red");
\$("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
\$("#target4").remove();
\$("#target2").appendTo("#right-well");
\$("#target5").clone().appendTo("#left-well");
\$("#target1").parent().css("background-color", "red");
\$("#right-well").children().css("color", "orange");
\$(".target:nth-child(2)").addClass("animated bounce");

});
</script>

<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#right-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="right-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4">#target4</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5">#target5</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target6">#target6</button>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

How does the last line in the script know to only target the 2nd child of the right-well and left-well <div>'s?

@lukenems Instructions

Using var, declare a global variable myGlobal outside of any function. Initialize it with a value of 10.

Inside function fun1, assign 5 to oopsGlobal without using the var keyword.
Need to do:

myGlobal should be defined
myGlobal should have a value of 10
myGlobal should be declared using the var keyword
oopsGlobal should have a value of 5(this is the problem)
Do not declare oopsGlobal using the var keyword

I'm slightly confused by this wording: If you set an element's margin to a negative value, the element will grow larger.

My understanding is, if you set an elements margin to a negative value, it will reposition the element based on its relative position and its negative margin value/s.

In the example it LOOKS like the element is larger, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same size, just repositioned (using negative margin positioning) to look like it is filling the entire width of the viewport? Am I crazy?

@aisolae callbacks are like you are calling someone on the phone it doesn't answer for the moment, you leave the message "plz call me back asap" and he/she will call you back when available. same with ajax calls. you send the request and maybe will get the answer later so you instruct a function(called a callback function) to take care of the response when you get it :)

@JenimDacket its very clear what you want, and the way to do it is a bootstrap grid.

<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-12"><p class="text-center">content1</p></div> <!--fully spanning the container and stacking-->
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-12"><p class="text-center">content2</p></div> <!--fully spanning the container and stacking-->
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6"><p class="text-center">content3</p></div>. <!-- These divs will be side to side -->
<div class="col-xs-6"><p class="text-center">content4</p></div> <!-- These divs will be side to side -->
</div>
</div>

please use that in the css settings for bootstrap, the one provided by default in codepen doesn't work proeprly
I've implemented it in my tribute page, if you want an example of what I said

Been having some problems with this and can't figure it out. Can whoever helps me out also explain it?
```var myStr; '"FirstLine" \n \SecondLine\ \r ThirdLine'```
Here's the instrutions: Assign the following three lines of text into the single variable myStr using escape sequences.
```FirstLine \SecondLine\ ThirdLine```
You will need to use escape sequences to insert special characters correctly. You will also need to follow the spacing as it looks above, with no spaces between escape sequences or words.

Here is the text with the escape sequences written out.

`FirstLine newline backslash SecondLine backslash carriage-return ThirdLine`

Shusil Banjade
@shusil123
Mar 05 2017 06:25
@dmrcc , `<img src="smaller-image width: 100px;">` goes below `</style>`, because it's an html element
And assign the class of `smaller-image`. It's not the source. Like this: `<img src="" class="smaller-image">`. And then between style tags, style that class. `.smaller-image {width: 100px;}`
Like that.
Samuel Clarke

``````<img class="smaller-image"> </img>
<style>
.smaller-image {
just to explain more practically
src="" is to give the img a reference to a file name, eg: cat.jpg
Shusil Banjade
@shusil123
Mar 05 2017 06:29
@KingTide44 , Actually what you're doing is still wrong. `img` is an empty element so you don't need closing `</img>`. Only `<img class="smaller-image">` works. And `<img class="smaller-image">` should be written below the closing `</style>`.
Hello everyone. Taking the initial steps in learning to code.
h1tag
@h1tag
@djneebor you need to create the class in your CSS, between `<style></style>`
@bubblybee where's that class the challenge is ask you to create?
Joy
@bubblybee
Mar 05 2017 09:16
Your img element should have the class smaller-image.
Your image should be 100 pixels wide. Browser zoom should be at 100%.
I've done the 100 pixels thing but I don't get the smaller-image thing
h1tag
@h1tag
Mar 05 2017 09:17
@bubblybee yea, but the name of the class is wrong
name it like the challenge is asking you to do
Joy
@bubblybee
Mar 05 2017 09:18
it says i gotta do this
<style>
.larger-image {
width: 500px;
}
</style>
but when i do it both are wrong
h1tag
@h1tag
Mar 05 2017 09:18
Your img element should have the class smaller-image
???????????i dont get it????
h1tag
define the class `smaller-image` like the `larger-image`class example
that's it
and then use that class on your image element
Joy
@bubblybee
Mar 05 2017 09:24
wrong.
smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}.
h1tag
@h1tag
Mar 05 2017 09:25
Joy
no, add `class =...` to the `img` in html
Joy
@bubblybee
Mar 05 2017 09:39
i dont get it
h1tag
@h1tag
Mar 05 2017 09:39
there's an image element in the html code (the one that isnt between the `<style>` tags), right?
Joy
@bubblybee
Mar 05 2017 09:40
ya
h1tag
@h1tag
Mar 05 2017 09:40
then you add the `class` to it like this `<img class= "class-name" ...`
Joy
@bubblybee
Mar 05 2017 09:41
but it already has src
i did it like <img class src:, didnt work
h1tag
@h1tag
Mar 05 2017 09:42
OK?
where's the class name after `class`????
`class = "smaller-image"`
`class` and `src` are different properties, each one has its use
it's like how you gave your `h2` the class `red-text`
Get awesome freeCodeCamp gear and support our community in our shop.
Add Elements within your Bootstrap Wells
Now we're several div elements deep on each column of our row. This is as deep as we'll need to go. Now we can add our button elements.
Nest three button elements within each of your well div elements.
Nest three button elements within each of your div elements with class well.
You should have a total of 6 button elements.
Make sure all your button elements have closing tags.
`\W_` matches all the non-word characters and underscore character.
@shusil123 I see, so the underscore character needs to be specified but other symbols doesnt?
Shusil Banjade
@shusil123
Mar 05 2017 10:10
@ericngu , Yeah , because `\W` matches all other characters. `_` is the special one (So it needs to be specified).
Means in Regex `abc_def` is a word but `abc,def` isn't.
Eric Ngu
@ericngu
hello!!!
how do I nest a text input element within a form element???
I DONT GET IT
AT ALL
Shusil Banjade
@shusil123
Mar 05 2017 10:33
@bubblybee , Here is how we nest elements:
``````<div>
<p>I am a paragraph</p>
<img src="" class="my-image">
</div>``````

`p` and `img` are nested inside `div` element

So, You have to nest `<input type="text">` (Your input element) inside `<form></form>` (Your `form` element)

Put the Like, Info and Delete buttons side-by-side by nesting all three of them within one <div class="row"> element, then each of them within a <div class="col-xs-4"> element.
so I did <div class="row col-xs-4"> and closed it with a closing tag below

Your buttons should all be nested within the same div element with the class row.

Each of your Bootstrap buttons should be nested within its own div element with the class col-xs-4.

Many people feel overwhelmed by the possibilities of more than 16 million colors. And it's difficult to remember hex code. Fortunately, you can shorten it.

For example, red's hex code #FF0000 can be shortened to #F00. This shortened form gives one digit for red, one digit for green, and one digit for blue.

This reduces the total number of possible colors to around 4,000. But browsers will interpret #FF0000 and #F00 as exactly the same color.

Go ahead, try using the abbreviated hex codes to color the correct elements.

Give your h1 element with the text I am fuchsia! the color fuchsia.
Use the abbreviated hex code for the color fuchsia instead of the hex code #FF00FF.
