@jorlam89

you should place your code inside (function(i){
-----your code here
})(i); when using for loop

  var channels = ["freecodecamp", "starladder_cs_en", "beyondthesummit", "tekken", "nalcs1", "idevelopthings", "feelfifaandgamingtv", "mamacitadoglobal"];
  var channelDetails = [];
  for(var i = 0; i < 8; i++)
  {
    (function(i){
     var channelName = channels[i];
    var url = "https://wind-bow.gomix.me/twitch-api/streams/"+channelName+"?callback=?";
      $.getJSON(url, function(data){
      if(data.stream)
      {
        console.log(url,data.stream.game);
        channelDetails.push(data.stream.game);
      }
      else
      {
          console.log(url,data.stream);
          channelDetails.push(data.stream);
      }
      console.log(channelDetails);

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?
I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season"

Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize
Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason

And 'cause you can't jump the track,
We're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl
So cradle your head in your hands

And breathe, just breathe

Does the length property of an array in Javascript get computed each time you access the property, or is is only updated when the array changes? I ask because I want to know if there is any use in defining it as a variable before performing loops? i.e, before the loop, var arrLength = arr.length and then using for (var i = 0; i < arrLength; i++) to initialise the loop. If the property is computed every time it is accessed, using this method would be faster. I only ask because in languages such as C++, Swift, Objective-C, PHP, etc.. it is computed every time, however the notation used in JS leads me to believe that it is not a function, just a property of the array, which could feasibly be updated when the array changes.

@ScubaSteve69 You can set your browser to zoom to a certain percentage, and you can also set it to zoom text levels to certain percentages. If this is the case, then the checks that FCC do will not be as they should, because your browser is increasing the size of the text. You would likely know about this if it applied to you, as you would have changed the browser settings. So, unless you get errors when the code is correct, it should be ok.

hey guys, how much experience making websites would I need to be able to land a front end dev internship?
I've been coding since May 2015 (did Udacity for 2015-2016) and I've been trying to make websites for small businesses, but I've been having a hard time landing clients. So far I've only landed one client which i've been making a custom website for him for the past 4 months. I really want to land an internship, but I don't know how much more experience I need to have a shot at getting into an internship.

also, for my only clients site, I did it completely custom (no templates) and it's taken me about 4 months and I'm still not done. I did have some bumps along the road such as having to replace my outdated pc and also the client took way too long to get me all the content I needed. However, if I listed that this website took me 4 months to make from design to launch, would it look really bad?

Struggling on 'Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors' exercise to resolve error I keep getting regards to '

'Only add one class with each of your three selectors' https://www.freecodecamp.com/challenges/target-the-same-element-with-multiple-jquery-selectors

Amit Patel

Mar 13 2017 00:30
@NewGismo ok, i'll give that a try. also, should I learn WordPress to make creating websites a lot quicker than doing custom work? I really want to get into this industry since I've been learning for 2 years now. I hate my current job (I'm a lab tech) and am looking to get out ASAP.

Mar 13 2017 00:32
@AmitP88 You could learn WordPress if you want to specialize on WordPress, but I don't think that WordPress is that important for an internship
Just show them what you can do and don't forget that business don't want only coding skills. You need some soft skills, too. Show them that you want to learn and that you are motivated
eixan
@eixan
Mar 13 2017 00:34
@b54690 the instructions say you should only had one class. So why do you have two on some lines?
Amit Patel
@AmitP88
Mar 13 2017 00:34
@NewGismo I see. I mean, my current (strongest) skills so far are: HTML, CSS, Javascript, Sass, Bootstrap. I also have minor experience in Git, grunt, website optimization, working with APIs, and I'm currently learning JSX for react.
Andrew Pope
@andrew1601
Mar 13 2017 00:34
@b54690 you are adding the wrong classes to your buttons. You need to follow the instructions exactly (which can be difficult to do at first, but you will get there eventually). For example, instruction number 1:
"Add the animated class to all elements with type button."
so you need to do $("button").addClass("animated")
then it says to add the shake class to elements of class btn, so again, use jQuery to target elements with class btn and add the "shake" class etc.

@eixan you need to be careful though, Bootstrap 4 has just been released and has vastly different features to Bootstrap 3 (which is the version they use in the lessons) - one of which is that Bootstrap 4 doesn't support the "well" class. If you add bootstrap to your codepen using the quick-add feature, it defaults to bootstrap 4. You will need to either look at the bootstrap 4 documentation (find info at the top of the bootstrap homepage) or manually include the css links to bootstrap 3 in your codepen settings

@Mikeohriordan I don't think so. jQuery builds on top of what you've learned so far. The only thing you might have to revise is how you see html and css as being something only under your control. With jQuery users can interact and the page changes according to the choices made by the user, of course by design.

@Aleyvee that is such a common typo, even sometimes with professional developers, it can be so hard to spot because when glancing through code, : looks very similar to = . Sometimes it's only when you look carefully that you spot it - I only spotted it in your code after properly reading it, didn't spot it at first glance!

@exian on Codepen, you can automatically add bootstrap to your pen by going to Settings and selecting "Bootstrap" from the Quick-add dropdown (do this in the CSS and the Javascript tabs). However, this will include bootstrap 4 (currently beta, but very nearly at release), which has a large number of feature differences from Bootstrap 3 - which has been around for at least 3-4 years. The lessons on FreeCodeCamp teach you things using Bootstrap 3, so you will find things like "wells" will not work with Bootstrap 4. To use bootstrap 3 in your codepen instead of version 4, you need to add the following links (which you can also find on http://getbootstrap.com/getting-started/#download) manually to the External CSS and External JS on the codepen settings page:

External CSS: https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css
External CSS: https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap-theme.min.css <---- this one is optional
External JS: https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js

Give your body element the background-color of black.
Make sure your CSS rule is properly formatted with both opening and closing curly brackets.
Make sure your CSS rule ends with a semi-colon.

Hey guys, I have a question about the "Responsive Design with Bootstrap Fluid Containers" lesson. When it says to nest all of our HTML in a div element. Does it mean ALL of the code? Like before the font link and then close it after all of the code? Or should I only use the div element after the style element? Lastly, the lesson states nothing about creating a container-fluid class and as such giving the div element the container-fluid class does nothing. Am I missing something there?

i mean u can have classes and u can have elements
they are diffrent things, <img></img> is an element
not a class
Marc

Mar 13 2017 03:38
@br3or I placed everything including the style tags inside my container div and it said it was correct. The container-fluid class is from bootstrap
Andrew Sauers
@br3or
Mar 13 2017 03:39
Thanks @TheFortress, I figured out you are supposed to just make a .container-fluid class and add it to the div element. There wasnt anything necessary to add into the .c-f class. Also thanks to @marcxvent

@JuliaSanchez7 Hey, so the image element you create is <img></img> , but you then reduce the image size within <style> by creating a class. A class starts with a period and would look like .smaller-image {

ButterandSpud
@ButterandSpud
Mar 13 2017 04:00
@JuliaSanchez7 sorry, preemptive send. The class looks like .smaller-image { width: 100px; } you can then apply this by calling the class within the element. So within the <img> element it looks like <img class="smaller-image" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">

@Slimmcx , Post Your code here. You are supposed to use color: inherit; or something like that to a child element (of body). The Color of body is already set and it's direct children can inherit its properties.
@AndrewOscarDelta , It's centering. But it's taking full width.

@AndrewOscarDelta , It's good to use button tag for creating buttons rather than div. Because div is set to full width. If you set your div to display: inline-block; and give your header text-align: center;, It'll work.

@Slimmcx , You are suppose to inherit the styles of body to your h1, So Between your style tags:

h1 {
    font-family: inherit;
    color: inherit;
  }

Put Something like that.

I'm a bootstrap rookie tbh :worried:
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 06:51
in general, pretend the jumbotron was a header :P
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 06:51
I wanted to learn everything the hard way to better understand how bootstrap works, so I'm JUST now getting into learning bootstrap
You would probably want your nav nested inside considering its z-index will be 1+ above whatever image/background you have.
@AndrewOscarDelta How's your JS knowledge?
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 06:53
Poor.
I haven't gotten to it yet. I'm finished jQuery and I'm on the Front End Projects now.
JS is next after this portfolio
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 06:54
Same, tbh i really like ur header I wish I was better at all that, I want to learn how to use like the jQuery parallax scroll
I'm getting better
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 06:54
the header on my portfolio is SIMPLE
it's just a background-attachment: fixed;
and thats it
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 06:54
really? I really like the transition from header to content
I hear many a good things about bootstrap
I haven't done the portfolio proj yet :/
I want to get some more knowledge, although I know you're supposed to do it at that knowledge base then.
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 06:56
You should, it's good practice!
For sure, that's why they give it to you early.
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 06:56
for some reason I can make cool stuff on my local machine, but on codepen it acts weird
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 06:56
I'm just trying to put a lot more work into it now so I can just update it later rather than need to redo the whole thing.
Plus I've learned a ton doing it this way.
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 06:57
thats true. I just wanna make a super simple/elegant minimalistic portfolio
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 06:57
just find one you like online and copy it, that's what I'm doing
Not looking at source code, just the design and using my knowledge to recreate it
Sandip Shrestha
@saninmersion
Mar 13 2017 06:58
@AustinTice simple and minimalistic is actually the hardest way as I have come to know :D
Momozor
@momozor
Mar 13 2017 06:58
@AndrewOscarDelta that is one of the best way to learn other than from doing it from scratch (time saving too).
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 06:58
It's odd, it seems the simpler you want it to be the more you think about it. Kind of ironic actually.
Anybody interested in doing like a 30min hackathon website challenge :D
I'm bored and it sounds fun?
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 06:59
@faraco I find it to be the best way because I'm still learning the design side of things.
Hmm, I'd be interested.
Ideas?
Sandip Shrestha
@saninmersion
Mar 13 2017 06:59
@AustinTice yes the simpler you want. The less resource and down to earth you want it to be.
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 06:59
See how good of a website you can make in 30min based on some general criteria
lets see if we can get a couple people involved.
@saninmersion interested?
Sandip Shrestha
@saninmersion
Mar 13 2017 07:00
yes give it a theme too
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 07:01
Give me a theme, some user stories and I'm in.
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 07:01
Can we get maybe 5 people to participate in just a fun little 30min speed code of a website? No copy and paste just off the top, just to see what can happen?
AndrewOscarDelta
@AndrewOscarDelta
Mar 13 2017 07:02

I don't think you can.
Sandip Shrestha
@saninmersion
Mar 13 2017 07:05
@tundeiness your local images will not be read in codepen
@tundeiness you will need to upload them to some image hosting websites
then grab the link and use it
Austin Tice
@AustinTice
Mar 13 2017 07:06
Upload to like imgur, I believe that works.

How do I create a script element?
Create a script element making sure it is valid and has a closing tag.
You should add $(document).ready(function() { to the beginning of your script element.
Close your $(document).ready(function() { function with });
Is it <script>
Ivan Korochentsev
@Porock
Mar 13 2017 07:56
@T-Vang No, I think, you should write document ready function and close it

@Manish-Giri that's not Vue tho! It's stupid web browser prioritizing stupid events differently.
I have to find a way of doing the same in pure JS (no involving DOM events!)
