Darren
@DarrenfJ
Mar 22 2017 00:20
@jacely ok.. so to create a comment you add <!-- at the front and --> at the back.. stuff inside won't run as code.. so it's for comments... if you remove those things you are uncommenting something

@jacely you sometimes will add a console.log() in the js to check a value and then quickly comment it out to run it without that code... (although, the way to comment out in js is slightly different...)

@SageGram you had a fun one...

@kryssxx

Write a function nextInLine which takes an array (arr) and a number (item) as arguments. Add the number to the end of the array, then remove the first element of array. The nextInLine function should then return the element that was removed.

I don't see anywhere you're pushing the item into the array

@b84 reduce is a function that loops over an array and does a "manipulation" described in the function for EACH ELEMENT of the array, and keeps the value of that function in the fist argument (a) until the array has been reducedto a single element

it is a little short, but there isn't much to the syntax
more important to understand the concept of asynchronous calls
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Mar 22 2017 02:07
@KeyWiz101 learn the concept and the idea behind it, then the syntax is not important.
It's important that you know why a dead link is handy, if you forgot how to make one simply google:
make dead link HTML and it's done~
@Marmiz so for array = {4,5,6,7,8}, the first loop would look like function (4) then second loop function (4,5) etc?

@Marmiz @KeyWhiz101 actually it's a bit of a balancing act of both. While no one will remember everything and you will be fine finding solutions with a good search, you'd be wasting a tremendous amount of time if you didn't have a good recall. Repetition is the mother of learning.

@b84
array = {4,5,6,7,8}

singleVal = array.reduce(function(a,b){
return a + b;
},0);

// means:
first loop: 4+5 = 9
2nd loop: 9+ 6 = 15
3rd loop: 15 +7 = ....

you got the idea

Claudio Restifo

Mar 22 2017 02:11
@rudolphh agree. But for a starter the best lesson is learn "how to learn"
@marmiz the first loop should be 4+0 right? and then second 4+5? since b isnt defined yet it will auto be 0? I think I'm getting it now
Rudy Hernandez
@rudolphh

For a starter, unless they're a child or impaired they know how to learn quite well.
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Mar 22 2017 02:12
@b84 nope. The 0 as secound arg is the position in the array where to start
it will startby 4+5

@rcswainston how do you want the text to show both colors? Or is that just an example? You can put multiple classes in the quotes, with a space in between. e.g. <h1 class="blue-bg alert other-class">Warning! Attention!</h1>

@b84 oh you mean the 0 here?
array.reduce(function(a,b){},0);
That's the initial value you set to the accumulator: So for the first loop a = 0 b =arr[0]

So yeah basically the first interaction of that loop will be 0 + 4 = 4 :)

@HarrisonHelms: form-control is a class, the same way that btn or btn-primary is a class. You need to add the class form-control to your text input element, which is this: <input type="text" placeholder="cat photo URL" required>

Then fix this:
<button class="btn btn-primary" input="form-control" type="Submit"><i class="fa fa-paper-plane"></i>Submit</button>

  1. Remove this: input="form-control"
  2. Change this: type="Submit" to type="submit"… attribute values are always all lowercase

@coymeetsworld not if just static content. If you load with navigations, panels, modal and stuff like that it can become intresting.
Also you can implement animations... so it may have a point :)

@coymeetsworld don't forget that lots of time when using a simple naivation or dropdown with a library (Bootstrap) there's JS already made.
Using a library from scratch means you'll have to write those yourself as well... which is still kind of challenging :)
So I don't see nothing bad :)

@Richand83: It's because of this: align="right"… this applies a float property to your image and takes it out of the flow of well div. Remove it and just place your h1 and img element in a row.

Hi. I'm terrible at position things. How should I best go about position each image so that it is always just to right of the left part of black box that each image is contained in? Sounds vague, but heres what I'm talking about: http://codepen.io/afox/pen/dvmVeJ

Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Mar 22 2017 04:13

@Manish-Giri yeah learn one :)
They revolve basically around the same concepts. So once you get the "flow" of one, it inherit to the other.

I have found Vue way easier to start, more readable and more "structured"... so there's that.
Plus the community is way more active and welcoming in gitter chat, so you can alway ask for help there :)

But I guess is more a matter of preference

@mendogentleman it wants you to put the font-size in the CSS, which is between the style tags.. and instead of doing with a class like the .red-text do it to affect the p like you did with the h1, h2 exercises eareir

@Manish-Giri I mean, if want to toggle that visibilty with a button all you have to do is add a button in html

<button>toggle</button>

Add a method in vue:

metods: {
  toggle(){
   this.seen = !this.seen
  }
}

And then reference it to the html element:

<button @click="toggle()">toggle</button>

I found it pretty straight-forward :)

Angular 2’s learning curve is much steeper. Even without TypeScript, their Quickstart guide starts out with an app that uses ES2015 JavaScript, NPM with 18 dependencies, 4 files, and over 3,000 words to explain it all - just to say Hello World.

My Mehtod override isnt overriding my POST requests to make the put/delete requests...

Here is the way i depend and use it with some other things i use

var express           = require("express"),
 app              = express(),
 mongoose         =require("mongoose"),
 bodyParser       = require("body-parser"),

 comment           =require("./models/comment"),
 User              =require("./models/user"),
 passport            =require("passport"),
 localStrategy        =require("passport-local"),
 methodOverride      =require("method-override"),
 router                =require("./routes/camproutes")

 var commentRoutes  =require("./routes/comments")
 var campRoutes     =require("./routes/camproutes")
 var authRoutes     =require("./routes/auth")

mongoose.connect("mongodb://localhost/yelpcamp");

app.use(express.static(__dirname+"/public"));
app.use(bodyParser.urlencoded({ extended: true}));

app.set("view engine", "ejs");

//===========================USE the routes assigned to router instead of app. And Append the shortcuts
 app.use("/camps/:id/comments",commentRoutes);
 app.use("/",authRoutes);
 app.use("/camps",campRoutes);
//==========================Camp Routes =====================================

 app.use(methodOverride("_method"));

I use router.put not app.put.. but i export router as an express router
Here are my routes that call it..

var express=require("express");
var router=express.Router();
var camp=require("../models/campgrounds")
var comment=require("../models/comment")
var passport=require("passport")
var User= require("../models/user")
var currentUser=require("../app");

var express=require("express");
var router=express.Router();
var camp=require("../models/campgrounds")
var comment=require("../models/comment")
var passport=require("passport")
var User= require("../models/user")
var currentUser=require("../app");

//Post Edit Info
router.put("/:id",function(req,res){ console.log("HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", req.params)
    camp.findByIdAndUpdate(req.params.id,req.body.camp,function(err,foundCamp){ //find by id. update with camp properties in form submit and then execute func
        if (err){console.log(err)}
        else{  res.redirect("/camps/"+req.params.id)}

    })
});

router.delete("/:id",function(req,res){
   camp.findByIdAndRemove(req.params.id,function(err){
        if (err){console.log(err)}
        else{    res.redirect("/camps")
}
    })
})
module.exports=router;

Lastly Here is the form that uses method overide

  <form method="POST" action="/camps/<%=camp.id%>?_method=PUT" >
        <div>
      <input class="form-control" type="text" value="<%=camp.name%>" name="camp[name]">
       </div><div >
      <input class="form-control" type="text" value="<%=camp.image%>" name="camp[image]">
   </div>

       <div class="form-group">
      <input class="form-control" type="text" value="<%=camp.description%>" name="camp[description]">
   </div>

      <div class="form-group">
      <button class="btn btn-lg btn-primary btn-block">Submit</button>
  </div>
    </form>

I am at a total loss as to why method overide isnt working.. One time I changed the method/action order on the form and it worked for a while but then stopped again.. Its really strange..
PLease help!

Any Idea why my method override isnt working?

    <form  action="/camps/<%=camp.id%>?_method=PUT" method="POST" >//My form

//====Method override
 methodOverride      =require("method-override"),
 app.use(methodOverride("_method"));

//=====My Routes
router.put("/:id",function(req,res){ console.log("HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", req.params)
    camp.findByIdAndUpdate(req.params.id,req.body.camp,function(err,foundCamp){ //find by id. update with camp properties in form submit and then execute func
        if (err){console.log(err)}
        else{  res.redirect("/camps/"+req.params.id)}

    })
});

One time this worked by changing the order of method/action in my form but no more... Any ideas?

Can't say I've thought about it. Looks pretty sweet though. Most of my current projects aren't web-based as it is.
@micojay020 well certainly. You can read what others here at fcc have to talk about getting jobs at https://forum.freecodecamp.com/c/getting-a-developer-job
Personally it's helped my land a summer internship
It also has given me a pretty nicely sized portfolio which I feel confident presenting to potential employers.

Hi, I'm doing this challenge: Write Reusable JavaScript with Functions

This is my code:

function reusableFunction () {
console.log("Hi World");
}

reusableFunction ();

but I'm getting this result:

Call reusableFunction after you define it

Any tips on how to "call" it?

Herman Fassett
@HermanFassett
Mar 22 2017 07:27
@haydennorthcott you should be able to call it with reusableFunction();. Have you tried removing the space between the function name and the parentheses on that last line of your code?
HN
@haydennorthcott
Mar 22 2017 07:28
@HermanFassett thanks. The space was the problem. It always seems to be something little. Well, not always... :P

@micojay020 I’m a photographer at a newspaper, and i want the skill for creating beautiful longread projects, and as i go on with the challenges, i learn how to customize my project already, so it gets more the way i wanted, instead of just a normal template. So for me it really helps expanding my skills.

Hi guys im working on the tribute page challenge. I have got a bunch of text which needs to be add in an unordered list. Is it possible that I can add individual lines of text in ul ,using a single CSS code?Or will I have to keep addigng ul to each and evry line?

Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Mar 22 2017 07:35
you don't need css to turn a blob of text to a list
Louise Koustrup
@LouiseKoustrup
Mar 22 2017 07:35
Isnt it fast enough to just copy paste <ul></ul> and then just adding the lines in between with copy paste as well? @makrandr
Jonas Friedmann
@frdmn
Mar 22 2017 07:35
@makrandr You can iterate through each of your texts and push it using JavaScript into your unordered list
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Mar 22 2017 07:36
and you don't add ul to every line, you only create one ul element, each item is a list element (<li>)
Jonas Friedmann
@frdmn
Mar 22 2017 07:36
@makrandr Are you asking how to do not do it manually?
Makrand R
@makrandr
Mar 22 2017 07:36
@coymeetsworld yeah <li>
@frdmn yeahhh
Jonas Friedmann
@frdmn
Mar 22 2017 07:36
Then JS, you can not do something like that using CSS
You could use CSS to set a default text for each element
but not individual ones
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Mar 22 2017 07:37
how much text are you talking about? if it's static content not sure if using JS will be useful there
