Mar 30 2017 00:16
@mocknoon , Let me see I, what is the name of the challenge?
Chengxi Wang
@mocknoon
Mar 30 2017 00:17
@roxroy It's Style Text Inputs as Form Controls. It asks to add "fa-paper-plane" icon in button element but requires adding form-control in input and and form element

So I noticed this while I was building quote machine. I wanted to console.log() my variables (in this case quote) just to see what that variable is containing. But everytime I pressed a button, on html it showed the newer quote, but in console.log (which is defined before appending to html) is showing previous quote. Anyone dare to explain?

@mocknoon , the form-control is bootstrap styles that changes the <form> which is the parent element and the <input> child elements. It adjusts the padding. margin, etc

@roxroy Thanks a lot. So form-control should be applied both for parent and child element to work on specific elements... It starts getting hard to memorize the concepts even though the task is not hard with tutorials. Guess I should read some book together with the coding task.

Font size is controlled by the font-size CSS property, like this:

h1 {
font-size: 30px;
}
Create a second p element after the existing p element with the following kitty ipsum text: Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.

Inside the same <style> tag that contains your red-text class, create an entry for p elements and set the font-size to 16 pixels (16px).

Note
Due to browser implementation differences, you may need to be at 100% zoom to pass the tests on this challenge.

Also, please do not add a class attribute to your new p element. what is the solution

Thanks
Alexander Køpke
@alexanderkopke
Mar 30 2017 00:34
@mazamats yes, it is because codepen uses version 4 of bootstrap. This version no longer uses the panel classes. https://v4-alpha.getbootstrap.com/migration/ you can use cards instead https://v4-alpha.getbootstrap.com/components/card/ or under css setting you can replace the link to bootstrap 4 to bootstrap version 3 https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css

@gentlejake605:

  1. You didn't add the pink-text class to your h1 element
  2. Class names are preceded by a .in the style tags.

Review what you did here:

@Adeiye i used the one w3 tells you about and styled it differently
or you can do a nice tutorial from this guy doing the same project he's kinda helped me past some areas i've been stuck at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiBvLQojg_8&spfreload=1
of course go part one but i write my own code then get stuck and look at what others have done to get some clarity

@dcolclasure I'm trying to get the container fluid element to do its job correctly. On both projects, if I open them on my phone or change the size of the view by looking at it on any device, the orientation of the images as well as the header is incorrect, or different from the screen that I'm doing the work on. Any research I've done is really vague and basically just explains how to type it in to an editor. And freecodecamp only has you implement it the same way one time in the tutorial, so I'm pretty lost.

hi all, I'm doing ' Add borders around your elements' challenge...what's wrong with my code below? I've spent ages on it so far and can't figure...

Can someone help me with this code? I'm trying to create a function which creates an array of the maximum values of each sub array:

function largestOfFour(arr) {
arr = arr.reduce(function(a, b) {
for (var i=0; i < arr.length; i++) {
for (var j=0; j < arr[i].length; j++){
Math.max.apply(null, arr[i][2]);}}
});
return arr;

Thanks!

I have this setup:
a variable name = [string] that hold a string.
Then I want to access an object based on the variable name:

this.$refs.name  //<-- that it will become: this.$refs.test

@Manish-Giri so you're saying that I can pass variables in general?
Imagine the classic click event

event.target.[...]

you think I can pass a variable x like:

event.target.x

Won't this means " look for the object name "x" (literally "x", not the variable name) inside target?

@nik3108 you only need 1 row for your 2 columns. In a bootstrap grid, there are 12 columns, and the columns you create will span those 12 columns. So when you want just 2 columns, you use 2 col-xs-6 (2*6=12). For 3 columns, you would use 3 col-xs-4. Also, you're missing your closing </div> tags.

Hello, just starting out on this website and having trouble with one of my questions.

Remember that in order to start a comment, you need to use <!-- and to end a comment, you need to use -->

Here you'll need to end the comment before your h2 element begins.

Comment out your h1 element and your p element, but leave your h2 element uncommented.

Hello, I need explanation for falsy bouncer challenge. I have been working for two days to solve this, and I did all kind of looping, if statement, and everything. And I could not solve it. It turns out it has a very simple solution. you just put the Boolean word inside the filter, and it returns something and the problem is solved. Can someone explain this to me?

$(selector).slideDown(speed,easing,callback)

I have this code segment which is working fine:
$('#masthead').hide().delay(500).slideDown(1500);

@coymeetsworld Hi! I'm trying to complete my Tic Tac Toe project
And my first game works fine
But during my subsequent games I get multiple variables with the same name and different values
Which messes with the game logic
I don't know why exactly that's happening
Here's my code.
(Keep the console open!)
@coymeetsworld It's like multiple parallel threads are running at the same time. And they increase in 2^n too.

I thought to add new functions you needed to use prototype, I'm not sure though
also I would think making a class and instantiating that would be better than making game an Object
Bhuvi Gupta
@bhuveh
Mar 30 2017 09:18
I used the object layout just because the same issue was occurring in my object-less code too.
Yes, would have to look up classes, let me try!
:D

I would check to see if your reset function is doing what its supposed to. Is it resetting all the values correctly? I don't think you need so many variables either
like numMoves, just check your gameboard and see if there's open spots, if there isn't then the game ends
you could refactor a bit
Bhuvi Gupta
@bhuveh
Mar 30 2017 09:20
@coymeetsworld Well, the functions work, because the game runs fine in the first instance. The number of functions is the programmer's choice, is it not?
I'll go over the reset function, thanks.

@bhuveh yes, but the less the better
easier to troubleshoot and faster download times
less likely to have bugs too

@coymeetsworld How did your AI work in your Tic Tac Toe code? I wanted it to be slightly smart, which led to multiple score keeping functions.

@mfsamar what are the instructions
Romark F. Samar
@mfsamar
Mar 30 2017 09:34
here's are the steps..
our h2 element should be red.
Your h2 element should have the class red-text.
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red.
Do not use inline style declarations like style="color: red" in your h2 element.

Your img element should have the class smaller-image.
Your image should be 100 pixels wide. Browser zoom should be at 100%.
