i do not know what they mean by "put it in between the style tags"
Val
@iAurora
May 07 2017 00:48
@potato8 <style> </style>That's where your .red-text rule is. You just need another rule for p to make the size 16px

do i have to make a new p element?

Alexander Køpke
@alexanderkopke
May 07 2017 00:50
sure what seems to be the problem?
Val
@iAurora
May 07 2017 00:51
@potato8 You need a rule for existing p elements. You have a rule for .red-text class between lines 2 and 7. .red-text {} You need another one for p { }
Tim Porter
@potato8
May 07 2017 00:51
so i need to make a new p element
kathleen13
@kathleen13
May 07 2017 00:52
@alexanderkopke it tells me to emphatisize the target 4 and add the tags and and i did it but i have an error that tells me to "make sure the text is otherwise unchanged"
this is my code $("#target4").html("<button=target4> <em>#target4</em> </button>")
Alexander Køpke
@alexanderkopke
May 07 2017 00:53
@potato8 it seems you have two p elements already but the text in the second one should be something. It's shown in the instructions to the left
Tim Porter
@potato8
May 07 2017 00:53
can you show me what you mean
Val
@iAurora
May 07 2017 00:53
@potato8 You are probably thinking right but using wrong terminology. Usually "making a new p element" would mean creating a paragraph in the body section. What you need is a class in the style section with a p as a selector. This way you will be styling all of your p elements that already exist in the body.
Alexander Køpke
@alexanderkopke
May 07 2017 00:53
@kathleen13 ah ok so the text should stay the same but should be emphasized as you have here <em>#target4</em>

May 07 2017 00:56
@iAurora I thought i did that, maybe i missed some elements
Val
@iAurora

@potato8 p is not a class. It's a selector.
Alexander Køpke
@alexanderkopke
May 07 2017 00:57
@kathleen13 $("#target4").html("<em>#target4</em>"); You already did this?
Val

kathleen13
@kathleen13
May 07 2017 00:58
@alexanderkopke also when i delete the <em></em> then its ok and the error tells me that i have to "emphasize the text in your target4 button by adding HTML tags"
@alexanderkopke i cant because this instruction Make sure to select button id="target4" with jQuery.

Alexander Køpke
@alexanderkopke
May 07 2017 00:59
@potato8 good now we just need to select the p elements and then give them the font-size: 16px; Put it below the .red-text{ } code not inside
@kathleen13 you have selected it already with$("#target4") this select whichever element that has the id of target4. So if <button id="target4"> then $("#target4") will select the button
Tim Porter
@potato8
May 07 2017 01:00

h2 element is the problem that I'm having
Val
@iAurora
May 07 2017 01:01
@potato8 There are 3 things you can possibly address in your styles: a class, an id and the tag itself. They told you not to add a class but you can style all elements with a p tag. p { your styles }

workingwith jQuery. Objectives: (1)Your left-well element should have a red background. (2) You should use the .parent() function to modify this element.
(3)The .parent() method should be called on the #target1 element.
(4)Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element. Code before changes: <script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#target1").css("color", "red");
$("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
$("#target4").remove();
$("#target2").appendTo("#right-well");
$("#target5").clone().appendTo("#left-well");

});
</script>

<body>
<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#right-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="right-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4">#target4</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5">#target5</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target6">#target6</button>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</body>

I first added $("#left-well").parent().css("background-color", "red"), which looked like it worked, but the objectives said otherwise. So I tried adding $("#left-well").parent("#target1").css("background-color", "red") and that made the background color return to white. I've double checked everything and cannot figure it out. Google thinks I'm right, too.

@SavInge #left-well is your end goal. It's where you need to arrive. By targeting $(#left-well) and then using parent() u are actually targeting the div that is a parent of #left-well, not #left-well itself
Vibhaas
@vibhaas
May 07 2017 02:00
@SavInge you need to take #target1 and apply the background color to its parent(left-well)

how do you remove an ht html element entirely using jQuery???

what is wrong with my code?
Val
@iAurora
May 07 2017 02:00
@SavInge You need to start with the child of #left-well, then the .parent() method will give you #left-well itself

@fmccroy Space does not matter in html. New lines should not be causing problems. There are minor exceptions where they create unwanted space but they do not break the code. So it must be the issue with FCC parser.

My mission is to:
Use the $("button")
Use the $(".btn")
Use the $("#target1")
Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
Your #target1 element should have the classes animated, shake, and btn-primary

@fmccroy I have to resize image to 100 pixels wide. I need to create a class called smaller-image then write <

@tca1989 Okay. Please copy and paste the code that you have so far, or copy and paste the link from the top of your browser, so that we can see what is going wrong,
Your smaller image class is between the <style> tags, that is good. Now you need to actually use that class, ie <img class=“smaller-image” etc.

May 07 2017 04:07
@inovramadani The shortcuts depend on the text editor you are using. If we are talking the editor on this site I don't know of the one to close existing tags but typing div + tab for example would create both opening and closing divs (or other tags actually). h2.someclass + tab would actually create an h2 element with a class of someclass. cmd + / on a Mac would comment and uncomment the line, must be something similar on PC

What is the goal of completing the challenges when you learn nothing from it?

Give your h1 element the class of pink-text.

You can add images to your website by using the img element, and point to a specific image's URL using the src attribute.

An example of this would be:

<img src="https://www.your-image-source.com/your-image.jpg">

All img elements must have an alt attribute. The text inside an alt attribute is used for screen readers to improve accessibility and is displayed if the image fails to load.

Lets add an alt attribute to our img example above:

<img src="https://www.your-image-source.com/your-image.jpg" alt="Author standing on a beach with two thumbs up. ">

Note that in most cases, img elements are self-closing.

Try it with this image:

https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat

will that work

So for the Advanced Algorithm Script challenge Record Collection, my code seems to work when I look at the output window, but my code isn't passing the tests for some reason:
// Setup
var collection = {
    "2548": {
      "album": "Slippery When Wet",
      "artist": "Bon Jovi",
      "tracks": [
        "Let It Rock",
        "You Give Love a Bad Name"
      ]
    },
    "2468": {
      "album": "1999",
      "artist": "Prince",
      "tracks": [
        "1999",
        "Little Red Corvette"
      ]
    },
    "1245": {
      "artist": "Robert Palmer",
      "tracks": [ ]
    },
    "5439": {
      "album": "ABBA Gold"
    }
};
// Keep a copy of the collection for tests
var collectionCopy = JSON.parse(JSON.stringify(collection));

// Only change code below this line
function updateRecords(id, prop, value) {
  if(prop !== 'tracks' && value !== "") {
    collection[id][prop] = value;
  }
  if(prop == 'tracks' && !collection[id].hasOwnProperty(prop)) {
    var array = [];
    collection[id][prop] = array;
  }
  if(prop == 'tracks' && value !== "") {
    collection[id][prop].push(value);
  }
  if(value === "") {
    delete collection[id][prop];
  }
}

// Alter values below to test your code
updateRecords(2468, "tracks", "Free");

@Cal1976 if it's only going to be that particular <p> element that's different, you can add a style within your <p> element, similar to how you would add an id="" or class=""

@jacob3188 if you go to settings there's a button at the top for linking to github..
neither good nor bad but you probably do want to link to GitHub so you can use gitHub to store code.. eventually
and you can host static webpages there.. so some people port their codepen projects over and store them there eventually as well

hello folks,
I'm trying to know what to do in the exercise "Target a Specific Child of an Element Using jQuery" that says that I got to "Make the second child in each of your well elements bounce. You must target the children of element with the target class."
Joseph Joe
@JoeTinnySpace
May 07 2017 09:46
@RUSAV since red-text is a class of h2, write this " font-family: "Lobster" " under .red-text
Moisés
@moisesAlc
May 07 2017 09:47

My code is: <script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#target1").css("color", "red");
$("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
$("#target4").remove();
$("#target2").appendTo("#right-well");
$("#target5").clone().appendTo("#left-well");
$("#target1").parent().css("background-color", "red");
$("#right-well").children().css("color", "orange");
$("#right-well #left-well").addClass("animated bounce");
});
</script>

<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#right-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="right-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4">#target4</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5">#target5</button>
