May 11 2017 00:26
can someone look at my website and help me figure out how to use the bootstrap grid to scale the picture properly. i would like to have the image take up an entire row above the biography when you shrink the browser to mobile-phone-size, but it stays in the same row. when i managed to make the image become its own row, it was below the biography. here's a link to my website. https://mikhailgrigoriev.github.io/

cool ...
@mikhailgrigoriev seems like you have divided a single row between your image and biography coz of which they are in same row
Mikhail Grigoriev
@mikhailgrigoriev
May 11 2017 00:31
right, i want them to be in the same row on larger screens (the way that website looks on a desktop). however, when you shrink the screen to phone-size, i want them to separate into two individual rows, with the picture above the biography

Need help on challenge #4.
Don't have anything right
yash5657
@yash5657
May 11 2017 00:33
@mikhailgrigoriev just add col-sm- as well as per your requirement and tell image to take entire space when mobile which is by using col-xs-
Mikhail Grigoriev
@mikhailgrigoriev
May 11 2017 00:33
how?
rollpop
@rollpop
May 11 2017 00:34
I removed one of the classes, but nothing changed
yash5657
@yash5657
May 11 2017 00:34
and if you want image to be above biography place is on top of biography ...as now you have it below it.. so its gonna take entire row after biography
Mikhail Grigoriev
@mikhailgrigoriev
May 11 2017 00:35
right now my row is split into <div class="col-sm-8">bio</div> and <div class="col-sm-4"img</div>
yash5657
@yash5657
May 11 2017 00:35
class="col-sm-4 col-xs-8" probably should do for image... it's just my guess .. @mikhailgrigoriev
Mikhail Grigoriev
@mikhailgrigoriev
May 11 2017 00:35
and if i place the image above the biography in terms of my html, then it'll display on the left-hand side of my row instead of the right-hand side (i want it on the right-hand side)
yash5657
@yash5657
May 11 2017 00:36
for sure... use css to place it on right @mikhailgrigoriev
Mikhail Grigoriev
@mikhailgrigoriev
May 11 2017 00:36
huh... wait so the image would be sm-4 and xs-8, then what would the bio be, sm-8, xs-4?

I am also noticing that sometimes refreshing the page just one or two seconds apart, the channels will sometimes show as live vs offline (ie the json will return stream === "null" and other times stream will have data).
is their api just that buggy?
Matt Young
@YoungMatthewM
May 11 2017 00:46
@mattr47 It mentions they cache the data, so it's likely you're getting served the old data then they refresh it after a new call
Matt Rogie
@mattr47
May 11 2017 00:47
I was thinking that. But what about the game status not updating. You can see in line 26 of my JS that it is updating as it iterates through the array. I know it is different for live channels

May 11 2017 00:48

Matt Young
@YoungMatthewM
May 11 2017 00:49
the order change will be due to the asynchronous nature of the responses, quicker response higher in order
Matt Rogie
@mattr47
May 11 2017 00:50
ahhhhhhh, now the a in ajax makes sense
Matt Young
@YoungMatthewM
May 11 2017 00:50
also I used stream.game to get the current game being streamed
Matt Rogie
@mattr47
May 11 2017 00:50
so I send multiple requests out, in my case 12, since I have 6 channels and I'm making two ajax calls per channel. Whenever they come back, they come back
Matt Young
@YoungMatthewM
May 11 2017 00:51
exactly
Matt Rogie
@mattr47
May 11 2017 00:52
so now I'm thinking there must be a way to go through each request, one by one so that does not happen. use setTimeout()?
or a way to assign each ajax call to each item in my users array
Matt Young
@YoungMatthewM
May 11 2017 00:53
You could set the order ahead of time and update each entry instead of creating it in teh callback
ie one loop to create each li, then a loop for teh ajax calls
Matt Rogie
@mattr47
May 11 2017 00:55
yep. That will do it. Thanks again @YoungMatthewM

in the example, the next thing they want you to do is style by elements
you could make a paragraph both 16px and red color by applying 2 different styles
disguised
@disguised
May 11 2017 01:10

Hey guys, it says "Between the style tags, give the p elements font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%." How do i do this? I currently have:

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;

@disguised @prettytalegalaxies try looking at the example, it shows how to style an h1 element to a certain size
you're going to do the same thing for a paragraph element but with a diff size, it should look similar

Is no.28 css bugged? create a new p element around your a element, your a element should be nested within your new p element, your p element should have the text "View more " (with a space after it). My Solution: <p>View more <a href="http://www.freecatphotoapp.com">cat photos</a></p>

I have passed this challenge https://www.freecodecamp.com/challenges/everything-be-true
with this code.

function truthCheck(collection, pre) {
  // Is everyone being true?
  return collection.reduce(function(accu, curr) {
    var bool = accu && curr.hasOwnProperty(pre) && isTruthy(curr[pre]);
    return bool;
  }, true);
}

function isTruthy(val) {
  if (typeof val === "number") {
    return val > 0;
  } else if (typeof val === "string") {
    return val.length > 0;
  } else if (typeof val === "boolean") {
    return val;
  } else {
    return false; // for null and undefined
  }
}

truthCheck([{"user": "Tinky-Winky", "sex": "male"}, {"user": "Dipsy", "sex": "male"}, {"user": "Laa-Laa", "sex": "female"}, {"user": "Po", "sex": "female"}], "sex");

But I wonder if there's a cleaner way where I don't need to use typeof

@vibhaas Use the $("button") selector.
Use the $(".btn") selector.
Use the $("#target1") selector.
Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.

@vibhaas Using .addClass(), add only one class at a time to the same element, three different ways:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

I am having trouble with the unique Union algorithm challenge, I keep getting a.indexOf(b) is undefined.. a is undefined for some reason, I don’t understand what I am doing wrong
function uniteUnique(arr) {
  console.log('uniteUnique on', arr);
  var args = [].slice.call(arguments);
  var flat = args.reduce( (acc, cur) => acc.concat(cur), []);
  console.log('flat is ', flat);
  var result = flat.reduce(function(a,b) {
    if (a.indexOf(b) < 0) {a.concat(b);
    }}, []);
  console.log('result is', result);
  return result;
}
I see from the first pass a is [] b is the first element of flat (a number say 1)
[].indexOf(1) = -1 so a.concat(b) is [].concat(1) -> [1]
the second pass should be a is [1] and b is the second element of flat (say 2)
so [1].IndexOf(2) = -1 so a.concat(b) leads to [1, 2].. but instead I get a is undefined not [1]

Can someone explain how to 'nest your text input element within a form element? I currently have:

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lobster" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}

.thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;
}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p>Click here for <a href="#">cat photos</a>.</p>

<a href="#"><img class="smaller-image thick-green-border" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. " src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat"></a>

<p>Things cats love:</p>

<ul>
<li>cat nip</li>
<li>laser pointers</li>
<li>lasagna</li>
</ul>

<p>Top 3 things cats hate:</p>

<ol>
<li>flea treatment</li>
<li>thunder</li>
<li>other cats</li>
</ol>

<form action="/submit-cat-photo" <input type="text" placeholder="cat photo URL">
