@thekholm80
May 13 2017 00:06
@Arete83 what's your question?
@LordShark01 that's all the instructions they gave you?
@LordShark01
You can set an element's font by using the font-family property.

For example, if you wanted to set your h2 element's font to Sans-serif, you would use the following CSS:

h2 {
  font-family: Sans-serif;
}
Make all of your p elements use the Monospace font.

hello, I just want your help to understand why we in this task didn't include the col-xs-4 class in the main div element beside the row class, this is question number 1, question number 2 why we nested every button in a div element while we can add the class directly to every button !

<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-4">
<button class="btn btn-block btn-primary">Like</button>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-4">
<button class="btn btn-block btn-info">Info</button>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-4">
<button class="btn btn-block btn-danger">Delete</button>
</div>

Diogo Matias
@DiMatiaz
May 13 2017 00:29
instead of applying the css you want in the h1 tag to the body you need to apply to h1
meaning on styles add another tag
respectively h1{
...
}
otherwise you're applying that to the body element, and you dont want that @thegreencode
Jessica Green
@thegreencode
May 13 2017 00:33
@DiMatiaz Another dumb question...so I think you answered my first question. But where would I put the "Hello World" text? Would it just be <h1>Hello World</h1> ?
Diogo Matias
@DiMatiaz
May 13 2017 00:33
@AhmedAbdellatef you didnt include the col-xs-4 in the main division because that's not how grid system works
it have to be separated because you want 3 columns
@thegreencode yes it would, since you add css to style the text
@thegreencode another option is to add the class system once you open the tag but i like to apply the css in the style tag instead

Hello again I don't understand this... "
"Your h2 element should have the class red-text.
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red. "
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 13 2017 00:38
Not to mention that we learn from other people's questions too
@Arete83 what have you tried?
Arete83
@Arete83
May 13 2017 00:40
I don't know exactly what to try... this terminology is throwing me off... I understand what the h2 element is but could you break down "class red text"? what does that mean?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 13 2017 00:40
@Arete83 you need to make an entry in the style portion of the code like the example:

<style>
  .blue-text {
    color: blue;
  }
</style>
in this, the .blue-text is the class
blacksun123
@blacksun123
May 13 2017 00:41
Nest two div class="col-xs-6" elements within your div class="row" element.
Make sure all your div elements have closing tags.
<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row col-xs-6 col-xs-6" >

</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 13 2017 00:41
then you'd add that class to your element like the example <h2 class="blue-text">CatPhotoApp</h2> @Arete83

Use the $("button") selector.
Use the $(".btn") selector.
Use the $("#target1") selector.
Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.

Hey all, I was wonder if anyone could figure this out...

function bouncer(arrArg) {
// Don't show a false ID to this bouncer.

var arr = [];
var arrTest = [false, 0, "", undefined, NaN, null];

arr = arrArg.filter(function(element) {

for (var i = 0; i < arrTest.length; i++){

  if (element == arrTest[i]) {

    return false;

  }

}

if (typeof element === typeof null) {return false;}

return true;

});

return arr;
}

bouncer([false, null, 0, NaN, undefined, ""]);

based on the input, the function should be returning [], but it's returning [null]. I've tried strict equivalence, with both element === null and typeof element === null, as well as non-strict equivalence: element == null and typeof element == null. Does anyone have any ideas?

this is my assignment

Change the Font Size of an Element
Font size is controlled by the font-size CSS property, like this:

h1 {
font-size: 30px;
}
Create a second p element after the existing p element with the following kitty ipsum text: Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.

Inside the same <style> tag that contains your red-text class, create an entry for p elements and set the font-size to 16 pixels (16px).

Note
Due to browser implementation differences, you may need to be at 100% zoom to pass the tests on this challenge.

Also, please do not add a class attribute to your new p element.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)

But there are multiple else ifs, I don't want to console.log every single one. If anyone has ever worked with Excel VBA, you can press F4 or F5 (I forget, it's been a couple months since I've coded a spreadsheet) and it will move one line further in your code, and if you hover over a variable or a statement, an alt-text will show you its value.
It's really friggin sweet. I was hoping there was something as simple for javascript.

Hey whats up? can anyone help me code this?

Size your Images
CSS has a property called width that controls an element's width. Just like with fonts, we'll use px (pixels) to specify the image's width.

For example, if we wanted to create a CSS class called larger-image that gave HTML elements a width of 500 pixels, we'd use:

<style>
.larger-image {
width: 500px;
}
</style>
Create a class called smaller-image and use it to resize the image so that it's only 100 pixels wide.

Note
Due to browser implementation differences, you may need to be at 100% zoom to pass the tests on this challenge.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Your img element should have the class smaller-image.
Your image should be 100 pixels wide. Browser zoom should be at 100%.

@NeelDVirus okay, it's checking browser support
all major browsers support either buttons or which, so the buttonPressed function in the example first tries buttons, and falls back to which when that isn’t available.
so event.buttons == null if the browser does not support .buttons
@jkimalot what have you tried?

@Disposablerhero oh lol you're right
nesting means put the opening tag before and the closing tag after the element you're nesting
for example
<div>
  <p>This p element is nested in a div element</p>
</div>
Jake
@JakeDVirus
May 13 2017 03:41
@thekholm80 i got 1 silly doubt. earlier to this example, i always came through contexts where if something (lets say abc)is not supported then it was retrieved like this --> if (abc) abc; else fallback code;. for example event = event ? event: window.event. its first time when i saw null as part of this. is this approach of null reliable?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80

@NeelDVirus I've used it before to check for browser support
@NeelDVirus one sec, i'll find the example

@thekholm80 what should the correct code look like so I can see maybe understand where I'm messing up?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 13 2017 03:45
@Disposablerhero it should look like my example, only with the <input ...> element nested in a <form> element
@NeelDVirus i lied, i used .isSupported()
Disposablerhero
@Disposablerhero
May 13 2017 03:46
ok
Jake
@JakeDVirus
May 13 2017 03:48

@thekholm80 one last remaining doubt. i was in this doubt since few days. why actually event.which is used, event in today's date, inspite of the fact that MDN stipulates that "this property is deprecated and it shouldn't be used".

For keyboardEvent.which MDN suggests to use keyboardEvent.key instead of that

For MouseEvent we have event.button for the replacement of event.which

i see no context where event.which is necessary, specially in keyboard and mouse event but it is used in spite of the fact that this property is deprecated

@thekholm80 sorry i dint got you. event.which is Non-standard and deprecated in mouseevent and keyboardEvent respectively, and what does it have to do with ==null?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 13 2017 04:10
@NeelDVirus referring specifically to the mouse event being non-standard, that is the entire reason to check to see if it's supported with if (event.which == null)
@NeelDVirus that way you can set a fallback if it's not supported
Jake
@JakeDVirus
May 13 2017 04:15
@thekholm80 i think that part of code was a fallback for event.buttons for which event.which is used.
Here also event.button could be used as a fallback for event.buttons instead of event.which.
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 13 2017 04:15
@NeelDVirus right, they're interchangeable because it's an if/else
Jake
@JakeDVirus
May 13 2017 04:20

@thekholm80 again i am not getting your point "interchangeable because it's an if else".
The given part of the code for fallback is this:

function buttonPressed(event) {
    if(event.buttons == null)
                return event.which != 0;
       else
                return event.buttons != 0;
}

and i what i was talking is this

function buttonPressed(event) {
    if(event.buttons == null)
                return event.button != 0;
        else
                return event.buttons != 0;
}
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 13 2017 04:22
wait, how could event.buttons be used as a fallback for event.buttons? that's like saying "if event.buttons isn't available, use event.buttons instead"

Aleksander Gębicki

May 13 2017 09:24
Hi @sandiebeach2017 what is your problem with it?
@sandiebeach2017 oh, in that challenge you need to add only one class in each line
@sandiebeach2017 the situation is that element with id #button is also "button", so when you add animated class to all buttons, you don't have to add it, to element with id #target1 because it is button!
Sandra Bryant
@sandiebeach2017
May 13 2017 09:25

@Takumar
May 13 2017 09:25
@sandiebeach2017 again, element with class .btn is also button, so when you add btn-primary class to it, element with id #target1 will have that class
@sandiebeach2017 in the end #target1 will have all 3 classes added if you add only one class at the time (line)

@Electronic7k use rather it like that:
<style>
p {
  font-size: 16px;
}
</style>
@sandiebeach2017 please read again what I wrote.
In last line you have added 3 classes:
$("#target1").addClass("animated shake btn-primary");

@sandiebeach2017 and in earlier two lines you have added "animated" and "shake" already, so no need to add it again

@Electronic7k you are welcome. Please ask question earlier. There is no need to wait so long. You will need this time for projects which are more complicated.
It is better to do this challenge again after some time to repeat.
@sandiebeach2017 I'm glad that I could help. I hope you understand now how this works.

hey guys
I would like to give each section an own background-color, unfortunately it simply backgrounds the text, wich looks pretty awful. any ideas how I could do that?

$("#left-well").parent("#target1").css("background-color","red"); pls help,whats wrong here?
Your left-well element should have a red background.
You should use the .parent() function to modify this element.
The .parent() method should be called on the #target1 element.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.
