Last time I tried that I ended up with a weather app that only told me the weather for my area, I tried it with different latitudes and longitudes and it wouldn't change
I suspect it might be a setting I need to enable in DSAPI

<style>
h2 .red-text {
color: red;
}

Change the Color of Text
Now let's change the color of some of our text.

We can do this by changing the style of your h2 element.

The style that is responsible for the color of an element's text is the "color" style.

Here's how you would set your h2 element's text color to blue:

<h2 style="color: blue">CatPhotoApp</h2>

Change your h2 element's style so that its text color is red.

Run tests (ctrl + enter)
Reset Help Bug
Your h2 element should be red.

<h2 style="color: blue">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<h2 style="color: blue">CatPhotoApp</h2>

Oh yeah I forgot why I joined the help room: FCC is telling me "Don't make functions in a loop" and throwing a caution on this code:
function uniteUnique(arr) {
var newarr = [];

for (i=0; i<arguments.length; i++){ for (j=0; j<arguments[i].length; j++){ arguments[i].forEach(function(value){ if (newarr.indexOf(value) > -1){
}
else {
newarr.push(value);
}
});
}
}

return newarr;
}

uniteUnique([1, 3, 2], [5, 2, 1, 4], [2, 1]);

Mojammel
@MojammelW
May 18 2017 00:32
and what is an object
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
May 18 2017 00:33
@Guerrw not necessarily
you can have a static method, that's not involved with any object
like main
Mojammel
@MojammelW
May 18 2017 00:34
ok this is what i know about methods so far, a method is a set of instructions that are grouped together. and you just call on the method name to execute the method calculation for the
something
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
May 18 2017 00:34
@MojammelW methods are a way to group some code together which can later be reused multiple times, instead of having to repeat the individual instructions
again and again
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80

you can call it with an object, or without it
Mojammel
@MojammelW
May 18 2017 00:35
ok can you explain what an object is?
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
May 18 2017 00:35
instance method vs class method
objects are what gets created when you instantiate a class
MyClass obj = new MyClass();
Guerrw
@Guerrw
May 18 2017 00:36
an object is a collection of things

Manish Giri

so i thought this should be the same
Guerrw
@Guerrw
May 18 2017 00:44
@Manish-Giri really? So you are saying it is only for saving something?
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri

I just started and now at challenge 25! out of curiosity, what’s the purpose of having two classes for one element when you can just have one class & style all of it under that same class.

hmm, not too sure why an img would want to have both 2 classes (e.g. .smaller-image & .thick-green-border) when both reformate that same image?

I have a silly question: I’m having problems trying to apply the “border-radius” property to my img. It just makes the picture oval, and not round. I know it has something to do with the size of the pic. How do I go about without losing the proportion?
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
May 18 2017 02:12
@fbalbino usually depends on the value of the border-radius.
eg a border-radius: 50% means that the image will be a circle;
while a border-radius:2px will just have the corner slightly rounded
fbalbino
@fbalbino
May 18 2017 02:13
@Marmiz yeah, I’m using 50%
Still, it doesn’t apply the nice circle around it, just makes it oval
:(
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
May 18 2017 02:14
@fbalbino if it's an oval means that your image is wider that it's height

I don't understand the way it must be constructed. But these are my challenges:

  • Use the $("button") selector.
  • Use the $(".btn") selector.
  • Use the $("#target1") selector.
  • Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
  • Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.

Help please.

@fbalbino
May 18 2017 02:38
@Mr-Benjamin you have to style it with css, brother. having that class in there will allow it to “call” it on a css file

```
.smaller-image thick-green-border {
border: 3px solid green;
}
@Mr-Benjamin in those practice exercises, instead of having a separate css file, they use the <style> tags inside the same area we type the html.
you will actually insert all the styling inside those tags for all the exercises. once you get to the projects, you will actualy start using separate files for html, css, js
helps keeping the code clean and organized
@Hans7777:
Replace the value of your a element's href attribute with a #, also known as a hash symbol, to turn it into a dead link.
href is an attribute and its value is in quotes "value"
so together href="value"… currently your value is a link (http://www.freecatphotoapp.com) … so replace the link with # which will make it dead… so upon clicking it… it will not redirect you anywhere.
but when i do that, i notice the container's elements all disappear including the newly appended nodes
Interesting. Are you directly assigning these, or storing them for reassignment?
ddab568
@ddab568
May 18 2017 03:24
not sure exactly why this happens im guessing it has something to do with appendChild() removing the duplicate node first and re-appending it (and at this point its null)
I'll show you my code
thank you :P
/code collection.sort(function(a, b) {
var valueA = parseInt(a.children[index].innerHTML);
var valueB = parseInt(b.children[index].innerHTML)
        return valueA == valueB
        ? 0
        : (valueA > valueB ? -1 : 1);
    });
crap..
how do you format
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 18 2017 03:25
```
code
```
ddab568
@ddab568
May 18 2017 03:26
        collection.sort(function(a, b) {
            var valueA = parseInt(a.children[index].innerHTML);
            var valueB = parseInt(b.children[index].innerHTML)
            return valueA == valueB
            ? 0
            : (valueA > valueB ? -1 : 1);
        });
So here is where I sort the elements
after this i check collection and they're sorted as expected
then i try to append back to original container:
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
with you so far
ddab568
@ddab568
May 18 2017 03:27
        for(var i = 0;i < collection.length; i++){
            container.appendChild(collection[i]);
        }
and once this is done... container element's completely dissapear
As I previously said... i think it might have something to do with appendChild trying to do a replace or something... so instead I tried to do a 'deep copy' of the individual elements and appending.. but even that fails
any ideas?
@ddab568 way cool I did not know this:
If the given child is a reference to an existing node in the document, appendChild() moves it from its current position to the new position (there is no requirement to remove the node from its parent node before appending it to some other node).
ddab568
@facevedo765 adding classes to your button element is not nesting, nesting means putting one (or more) elements inside another element. for example:
  <p>this p element is nested in a div element</p>
@mukul09 myBike.setGear(4) passes the number 4 as an argument
this.setGear=function(val){
    return gear;
  };
assigns that 4 to a variable, gear
this.getGear=function(val){
    gear=val;
    return gear;
reads the value of the variable gear and returns it
How to do this?
  • Use the $("button") selector.
  • Use the $(".btn") selector.
  • Use the $("#target1") selector.
    • Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
  • Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.
How to do this
Sometimes you want to add a elements to your website before you know where they will link.
This is also handy when you're changing the behavior of a link using jQuery, which we'll learn about later.
Replace the value of your a element's href attribute with a #, also known as a hash symbol, to turn it into a dead link.
Run tests (ctrl + enter)
reate a script element making sure it is valid and has a closing tag.
You should add $(document).ready(function() { to the beginning of your script element.
Close your $(document).ready(function() { function with });
@AdelMahjoub doesnt (fn1 + fn2) % 2 == 0 do that ?
@Zezzman like this
var i;
var fib = []; // Initialize array!
fib[0] = 0;
fib[1] = 1;
for(i=2; i<= num; i++) {
    // Next fibonacci number = previous + one before previous
    // Translated to JavaScript:
    fib[i] = fib[i-2] + fib[i-1];
    console.log(fib[i]);
}
Chaunce02
@Chaunce02
May 18 2017 04:59
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {});
</script>
@Zezzman push all the fibonacci numbers you want in an array, filter that array to keep the odd numbers, then reduce the filtered array
