May 19 2017 00:17
@arajason every 12 columns go in a row and containers can't be inside one another. You're also using some Bootstrap 3 classes, but have Bootstrap 4 set up in your codepen. Try this HTML:
  <div class="row">
  <a class="anchor" name="portfolio"></a>
    <div class="col-md-4">
      <!-- budd.e -->
      <a href="http://www.ara-lee.com/#/budde/" target="blank">
        <img class="img-fluid" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/54160f7ce4b0ee57f83f7917/t/54170741e4b00dedbd25f875/1410795333167/budde_logo.png?format=1000w">
      </a>
    </div>
    <div class="col-md-4">
      <!-- trendy -->
      <a href="http://www.ara-lee.com/#/trendy/" target="blank">
        <img class="img-fluid" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/54160f7ce4b0ee57f83f7917/t/541999ade4b0d19eacc33099/1410963891725/trendylogo+copy.png?format=1000w">
      </a>
    </div>
    <div class="col-md-4">
      <!-- photography -->
      <a href="http://www.ara-lee.com/#/photography/" target="blank">
        <img class="img-fluid" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/54160f7ce4b0ee57f83f7917/t/5417076fe4b0e4b35f93142c/1410795395254/1.jpg?format=750w">
      </a>
    </div>
  </div>
(Formatted)
Main change above is uncommenting your row and closing /div and replacing img-responsive with the Bootstrap 4 equivalent img-fluid

Budi Alfian Bin Zainudin

May 19 2017 00:50

okay so i have an empty array

var numbers = [ ];

it then gives me a for loop :
for (i=0;i<10;i++) {
Using the loop provided for you, use an array's push method to insert the nummbers 0 to 10 into positions 0 through 10 of the numbers array you just initialized above.
}

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 19 2017 00:50
@andrewc69 when I inspect it in the dev console it shows it being taller than my screen. I think when you try to click in the text box you're actually clicking in that element

so what i did was console.log(numbers [3] + [6]);

but it didnt do anything. so am i missing something?

@andrewc69 when you specify z-index: -1; it means you want it behind everything. So, your text box is currently in a layer beneath all the other elements and can't be clicked. You shouldn't need to layer anything - the grid system along with background images/colors would work well for your needs. Also, for the top of your page, have you considered using the bootstrap navbar? It will respond better on smaller screens than what you have now: https://v4-alpha.getbootstrap.com/components/navbar/

@thekholm80 then on to the next problem we go! alright so in the next problem it says that i should use console.log and the .pop function to add all of the values in the array. doesnt the pop function take out the last element in the array? idk honestly i'm just winging it @thekholm80
I added col-xs-12 because if I just add "row" as my div class it won't appear
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 19 2017 01:32
@brodi77a Array.pop() removes the last item of the array, and returns it, so if you do variable = Array.pop() variable will equal the removed value
@gnisabel the bootstrap class row is a way of dividing the page into rows, then you nest all of the items in that row inside
Isabel Gan
@gnisabel
May 19 2017 01:34
so should it be under my div class
or is it a nested value?
Budi Alfian Bin Zainudin

May 19 2017 01:34

May 19 2017 01:35

Hi everyone, can someone please explain to me the purpose of this

var someProp = "propName";
var myObj = {
propName: "Some Value"
}
myObj[someProp]; // "Some Value"

rather than just doing it the general way, which is

var myObj = {
"Name": "Max",
"Legs": 4
};

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 19 2017 01:35
@brodi77a you can cumulatively add each popped value to the same variable with += instead of =
@gnisabel that is strange. I'm not super familiar with bootstrap, I only learned enough to get through those challenges.

if you have

<input type="text" placeholder="cat photo URL" action="/submit-cat-photo"</input>

<form action= "/submit-cat-photo"></form>

unsure how to nest the text info in the form

Hector Garcia
@hectorgarcia0504

@thekholm80 I have the same sizing picture problem. I have, inside my <style>, the following class:
.smaller-image{
width: 100px;
}

and the image link is
<img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" class="smaller-image" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">

however it says my image isnt 100px wide, although it says it is of the class "smaller-image"

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
May 19 2017 02:26
@hectorgarcia0504 so you make a class called smaller-image in your style tags, and set the width to 100px. then add that class to your <img ...> tag

Hi @thekholm80
Can you please explain to me how the computer knows from the code below, that var value is referring to Y and not creating a new value 2

var alpha = {
1:"Z",
2:"Y",
3:"X",
4:"W",
...
24:"C",
25:"B",
26:"A"
};
alpha[2]; // "Y"
alpha[24]; // "C"

var value = 2;
alpha[value]; // "Y"

The system refuses to accept my code:
function titleCase(str) {
var arr = str.toLowerCase().split(" ");
var upperCase = "";
for (var i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) {
upperCase = upperCase + ' ' + arr[i][0].toUpperCase() + arr[i].slice(1);
}
return upperCase;
}

titleCase("I'm a little tea pot");

@aleksspeaker I think I might see the problem...
@aleksspeaker You're declaring upperCase as an empty string. Then on the first iteration, it's adding a space at the very beginning of your return string:
upperCase += ' ' +...
@aleksspeaker So you're returning a string that begins with a space instead of a letter

I've become used to functional programming after working on a project in Elixir. Considering that, here's my approach:

function titleCase(str) {
  return (
    str
      .toLowerCase()
      .split(" ")
      .map(capitalize)
      .join(" ")
  );

}

function capitalize(word) {
  return word[0].toUpperCase() + word.slice(1, word.length);
}

titleCase("I'm a little tea pot");

that goes in the style section.. if you wanted to change all h1's to 30 px...
but you want to change all p's to 16 px
