Hi guys. Can anyone help with debugging my code?. Pen tells me there is an "unexpected identified" on line 7/8
function mutation(arr) {
  lowercase_str = arr[0].toLowerCase();
  lowercase_arr = arr[1].toLowerCase().split("");

  for(var i = 0;i < lowercase_arr.length;i++){
    if lowercase_str.indexOf(lowercase_arr[i]) {
      return false;

    }

  }
  return true;

}

console.log(mutation(["hello", "nyo"]));
console.log(mutation(["hello", "Hello"]));
Right on top of the return false statement
Also is there a more descriptive way of debugging JS code?. Coming from an Eclipse/Java world, I feel like I need more info on my error messages

It can.
There’s several packages for it that can do that.
But you should learn to set up a development environment using localhost.

Is there a way in JS to typecast something to an array?. For example : arr = function([1,2,3],'a','b']{ var first_array = arr[0];}
Is there a way to ensure that first_array will inherit all the methods for the Array.prototype?

@kodinglife:
Recovering Unresponsive Code

If you have erred and incorrectly disabled loop protection and now have an unresponsive solution, you can disable Code Auto-Run.

By default, the Free Code Camp site automatically loads and runs your last recorded solution. If you have accidentally created an infinite loop or other irrecoverable error or simply don't trust the code, you can disable code auto-run by putting the following in your URL: run=disabled

Example:

URL: http://www.freecodecamp.com/challenges/Algorithm-meet-Algorithm#?solution=function%20meetBonfire(argument)

No-Run URL: http://www.freecodecamp.com/challenges/Algorithm-meet-Algorithm#?run=disabled&solution=function%20meetBonfire(argument)

@erininnis:

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.

You have added more than one class to each selector.

@Atalaa: You could just include the icon elements inside of js file:

      $(".quotes").html(
        `<i class="fa fa-quote-left" aria-hidden="true"></i>${res}<i class="fa fa-quote-right" aria-hidden="true"></i>`

and then just have an empty div. with the class qoutes:

Jun 04 2017 03:32

@Atalaa well in that case using what @cdrainxv suggested is better because it adds the quote icons ALONG with the text quote itself (it only shows the <i> tags after the button is clicked).

jQuery

$(".quotes").html(
  `<i class="fa fa-quote-left" aria-hidden="true"></i>${res}<i class="fa fa-quote-right" aria-hidden="true"></i>`
);

html

<div class="quotes text-center"></div>

and then just add the style rules to quotes class itself

css

.quotes{
  padding: 30px;
  width: 800px;
  height: 100px;
  margin: auto;
  color: white;
  font-family: sans-serif;
  font-size: 20px;
  line-height: 150%;

In addition to classes, each HTML element can also have an id attribute.
There are several benefits to using id attributes, and you'll learn more about them once you start using jQuery.
id attributes should be unique. Browsers won't enforce this, but it is a widely agreed upon best practice. So please don't give more than one element the same id attribute.
Here's an example of how you give your h2 element the id of cat-photo-app:

<h2 id="cat-photo-app">

Jay Prado
@purrado
Jun 04 2017 03:46

@Atalaa writing with backticks is another way of writing a string with variables
for example if I want to write

var name = "Aata-allah";
console.log("My name is " + name);

i can also write this with string templates:

var name = "Aata-allah";
console.log(`My name is ${name}`);

@Atalaa: It’s not new new… ES6 has been out for a while now… it just hasn’t been fully implemented in all browsers yet as a standard. You can still make use of using a transpiler like babel.
Jay Prado
@purrado
Jun 04 2017 03:49
@Atalaa just use it when you need to use variables with strings (and if it's supported by the browser or you are using a transpiler). also, remove width: 800px from the quotes css and see what happens with the quotes when you resize to smaller screens

@Atalaa

A source-to-source compiler, transcompiler or transpiler is a type of compiler that takes the source code of a program written in one programming language as its input and produces the equivalent source code in another programming language.

you don't really need it at this point in FCC since you can write everything in ES5 code. you can learn more about transpilers, babel, and ES6 javascript here https://babeljs.io/

@Gouivel just a note though as a visitor to it and not a coder, I may find myself not really liking the fancy cursive font for full paragraphs. There are a lot of people who sadly struggle with that. And being a bit confused at all the font changes.

hey guys, I'm trying to use setInterval for a typing function on my portfolio site, but it's not working the way I want. I want the function to repeat every 5 seconds, but it's acting weird. It seems to wait 5 seconds to execute, then after it does, it reverts to a state where its as if the function wasn't executed at all: https://github.com/AmitP88/New-Portfolio/tree/gh-pages demo: https://amitp88.github.io/New-Portfolio/

In the map, I'm in the "Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors" Challenge. I have all the check marks except :Only add one class with each of your three selectors.

This is my code right now:

<script>
$(document).ready(function() {

$("button").addClass("animated bounce");
$(".btn").addClass("animated shake");
$("#target1").addClass("animated fadeOut animated shake btn-primary");

});
</script>

Can someone help me with this?

@jramon96 it wants you to surround your html text in a div container
@jramon96 the class should be what it says. You'll add it just like you've been adding classes before

@jramon96 they actually added the class in the style behind the scenes so you don't have to do that
@jramon96 you just have to declare the class in your div container

Hey guys! What did I miss that's preventing me from moving on? My form element doesn't have a background color of green, but I thought I had included everything correctly.

border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;
}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}

.silver-background {
background-color: silver;
}

#cat-photo-element {
background-color: green;
}

</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>
