ok couple of things
you closed the img tag prematurely @isabellabeltran
src and alt should be inside the < and >
also img doesn't have a separate closing tag, it's self closed unlike most other tags
so it has no </img>
Chris Bartlett
@Jeffsywontcode
Jun 18 2017 00:02 UTC
@F1ko you may be onto something I never thought of that. The Viewport is set to device-width and I wanted to to be no wider than the current image displayed but I couldn't get my head around that so I switched carousel styles instead
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 18 2017 00:02 UTC
technically the opening tag is also the closing, it should be written as <img class="" src="" alt=""/> with the backslash in it
and you dont need to specify img inside your style, just need .smaller-image

Jun 18 2017 00:05 UTC
font-size isn't a class
you're creating a selector
also you don't use equals to assign values to properties in CSS, you use the colon, like you did with red-text's color
@Jeffsywontcode
simply play around with the size
otherwise if u want to code it by yourself u could use javascript and have two buttons (left and right arrow)
each time u click one of those arrows you either add or remove a Class to the img, which makes it dissappear, for example size it to 0, make it transparent or set visibility to none
so each time the arrow is clicked the current img gets the getAwayClass which makes it dissappear, and the next in order gets it removed and appears
just one of many exaplmes

@IggySmith it absolutely is the problem :)
your css needs to be fixed
@mksafi
simply copy the url in your browser
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 18 2017 00:08 UTC
@mksafi you can download it from their page getbootstrap.com
@mksafi
just copy
https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css
in your browser and you can see it
but its unstructured, so you should work with ctrl + F to find what u are searching for
otherwise download it and open it with notepad++ for example

yes, you could make a custom bootstrap file, check the website
or you can override the styles, but its tricky
and you have to understand how to override styles, there's a section in FCC that covers it but even so bootstrap is tough

just look around which one u like the most

@F1ko I'll probably just do something standard to finish this task, I'm only doing a tribute page haha. Looks like carousels will be used for the portfolio so I'll worry about it more then :smile:
@coymeetsworld
sry but why is it hard to overwrite it?
if they got a class called .active which makes the background color blue
and you write in your css .active background color green
its done and not really that tricky at all?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 18 2017 00:12 UTC
because its not just overriding a class
the css selectors are more specific than that, and thus they take precedence
@IggySmith the rule is fixed, but not the name, You're not styling font-size tags
@Jeffsywontcode
you dont have to use them at all at the portfolio page
i wont use it either
its a nice and stylish way to show a few pictures, but in my opinion its rarely the best way to show pictures that way
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 18 2017 00:13 UTC
you want to style the name of the tag, in this case p
@coymeetsworld
it simply is cascading
if you import the bootstrap file first and then use the exactly name of their class u can overwrite it
if there are some issues with other classes u can still make !important and it works fine
otherwise you couldnt change the height of your navbar of something like that without using an extra id for everything (which, if you ask me, is pretty annoying)
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jun 18 2017 00:15 UTC
@F1ko maybe you should try it before explaining it to me :)
using !important is not recommended either

@Fuzzy175 It needs to have the same name as your CSS silver-background
You have two words, which would be two classes silver and background
Just like they used red-text in the <h2> element: <h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>. Same technique, only with a <div> and a different class name.

I need some help... I'm making a mistake somewhere, but I'm not sure where the problem lies due to a lack of understanding in the code I'm writing.

https://codepen.io/Mattkx4/pen/VWPxMN?editors=1100

Can someone explain why the <p> element I have is resizing the div instead of wrapping?

Nahuel Ovejero
@NahuelOvejero
Jun 18 2017 02:29 UTC
@Mattkx9 you need to put the div a fixed width / heigth to make the p wrapping inside the div
Matthew Mehrtens
@Mattkx9
Jun 18 2017 02:30 UTC
See... That's what I was afraid of. There has to be a workaround. I need the width of <div> to be intrinsically set to the width of the image. @NahuelOvejero
Is there a way to fix the width of the <div> to the width of the image?

Your h2 element and topmost img element should both be nested together within a div element with the class row.
Nest your topmost img element within a div with the class col-xs-4.
Nest your h2 element within a div with the class col-xs-8.
Make sure each of your div elements has a closing tag.

Only add one class with each of your three selectors.
Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.

@elpretentio sorry, for some reason I read "tribute page" not portfolio page
the user stories are a little different, one sec

User Story: I can access all of the portfolio webpage's content just by scrolling.

User Story: I can click different buttons that will take me to the portfolio creator's different social media pages.

User Story: I can see thumbnail images of different projects the portfolio creator has built (if you haven't built any websites before, use placeholders.)

User Story: I navigate to different sections of the webpage by clicking buttons in the navigation.

that's all they require you to do, how you do it is up to you
@elpretentio can you paste the link to your pen so we can see what you mean?
when i float: right it removes the padding on the bottom
i know all the user stories of course, i just want to get it close to the example so i can learn more advanced stuff

Jun 18 2017 03:35 UTC
@elpretentio since you're not using bootstrap what I would suggest is adding this to your class nav:
display: flex;
flex-direction: row-reverse;
then you can remove the float from your <li>

It should read:
h2 {

Then, you should actually have the h2 tags inside the document, above the paragraph.
Make sure you properly open the h2 element with <h2> and properly close that h2 element with </h2>

Hi guys, i am having problem with this. It does not show the streamer's name correctly even though i have tried implementing a placeholder var. The outcome is, it both show "ESL_SC2".
var streamUsers = ["FreeCodeCamp","ESL_SC2"];
for (i=0;i<streamUsers.length;i++) {
var twitchAPI = "https://wind-bow.glitch.me/twitch-api/streams/" + streamUsers[i]
var currentStreamer = streamUsers[i];

$.getJSON (twitchAPI,function(data) {

if (data.stream===null) {
$(".twitch-list").append('<li><div style="display:flex;"><div class="streamUser">'+currentStreamer+'</div><div class="streamTitle">-None-</div><div class="streamStatus">OFFLINE</div></div></li>');
console.log(currentStreamer)

}

else {

$(".twitch-list").append('<li><div style="display:flex;"><div class="streamUser">'+currentStreamer+'</div><div class="streamTitle"><a href="'+data.stream.channel.url+'">'+data.stream.channel.status+'</a></div><div class="streamStatus">ONLINE</div></div></li>');
}
// console.log(data.stream.channel.url);
});

            console.log("address: " + address + " lat: " + lat + " lng: " + lng);
        } else {
            alert('Geocode was not successful for the following reason: ' + status);
        }

}

$("#user-submit").on("click", function() {

    search = $("#search-subject").val();

    var geoResults = geocodeAddress(geocoder, $("#search-address").val());

    console.log("lat: " + lat);

Hey, so I'm trying to practice good habits right off the bat and set up my coding environment to work with Git/Github and follow best practices...is there generally a "best way" to organize your file structure for HTML/CSS/JS? Haven't got to the frameworks yet but not sure if that changes things too
Used to Java now being like...really strict about that lol
Brianna
@brisourceful
Jun 18 2017 05:38 UTC
@JaxomofRuatha yes John, there is absolutely a best practice for file structure. Take a look at any of my repos for references.
Although I will say, that there is some lead way on best practice but generally there are some rule of thumbs depending on what you are working on.
@Manish-Giri @thekholm80 soooooo I have no idea where to start with that question but I figured I'd call .sort() on the arr first.

can you give me a hint on how you went about solving without giving me the answer, yet @Manish-Giri
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jun 18 2017 05:44 UTC
yup
so I created an empty object at first.
then I loop through the array of integers
for each number, I check if the object already has this number as it's property, if it doesn't, I set it as a new property on the object and set the value to 1
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jun 18 2017 05:45 UTC
bleh
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jun 18 2017 05:45 UTC
But if it does have it as prop, I increase it's value by 1
what this does is it creates a key-value pair for each number and how many times it's present in the array
Brianna
@brisourceful
Jun 18 2017 05:46 UTC
@JaxomofRuatha I went to a coding bootcamp which is how I learned best practices so I can't say if there is a breakdown of that info but I'm sure it's online somewhere. For CSS, look into SMACSS https://smacss.com/book/categorizing
For HTML and JS that really depends if you are using Node and Angular or React.
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jun 18 2017 05:46 UTC
last part is to loop through the object properties and return the property whose value is an odd number
