@korzo
Jul 01 2017 00:10
@IggySmith You have whitespace at the start of the string
IggySmith
@IggySmith
Jul 01 2017 00:11
hmm.. i see. would that matter in an actual program/website or is it just for the challenges?
korzo
@korzo
Jul 01 2017 00:22
@IggySmith It doesn't pass the test, because test expects it without space. In program it matter, in website probably not.
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Jul 01 2017 00:35
yes and yes. White space don't matter to much except in <p> but it is horrible practice. Most languages try to avoid it
is anyone on can help me with profile look up

Quick question about working on my first project... build a tribute page. I know that I shouldn't look at the source code for the sample project but am I cheating my learning if I look at some of the previous tutorials I went through to refresh my memory on how to build certain aspects of the page? I just can't recall all of the different functions needed to complete my page. Any thoughts on if this would hamper my learning or help enhance it would be greatly appreciated!

function lookUpProfile(firstName, prop){
// Only change code below this line

 for (var i = 0; i < contacts.length; i++) {
      if (contacts[i] === firstName)
      {
         for (var y = 0; y < contacts[i].length; y++)
         {
            if (contacts[i][y] === prop){
                return   contacts.firsNamt + contacts.prop;
            }
         }
      }else{

Jul 01 2017 00:38

Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Jul 01 2017 00:38
dammit
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 01 2017 00:38
maybe you need to check them all before returning?
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Jul 01 2017 00:39
ahh okay so where would that go?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 01 2017 00:39
for () {

return
you can return success inside the loop, but wait until after to return failure

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 01 2017 00:41
i'm not sure you need a nested loop for this one either, but let's see what happens
Albert Cardona II

hi
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80

Jul 01 2017 00:43
Hi

Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Jul 01 2017 00:46

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80

Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Jul 01 2017 00:47

@reddy-bharathkumar is javascript code fine?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 01 2017 00:47
if you want to use a variable to access a property in an object you have to use []
Nickey Pickorita
@Pickorita
Jul 01 2017 00:47
also should html be similar to my circle code?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 01 2017 00:47
@daddycardona but i really don't think you need the inner loop
Bharath Kumar Reddy
@reddy-bharathkumar
Jul 01 2017 00:48
remove the <script> tags, they are not req
Nickey Pickorita
@Pickorita
Jul 01 2017 00:48
ok done
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Jul 01 2017 00:49
but how would I check for the second part or would I do if(contacts[i].firstname === firstName && contacts[i].firstname === prop)
Nickey Pickorita
@Pickorita
Jul 01 2017 00:49
@reddy-bharathkumar just removed it

you can choose between html, pug, haml, slim for the html preprocessing
stylus, sass, scss, less, css with some added stuff
and it will generate a gulpfile for all the tasks
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 01 2017 01:53
very cool
Ahmed Tarek
@ahmedtarek2134
Jul 01 2017 01:53
it will install all the required dependencies
it will minify your css and js
it will run a server
I even made it so that if you install something like bootstrap fron npm
you can just @import "bootstrap"
and it will include it
just import the package name
and it will lint your js, can't forget that one
Kyle Holm

Ok, so I think I know what the issue is. Looking at your block of code you need to place the variable inside the function. You have it outside the callback
so it should look like this-.

function myLocalScope() {
'use strict';
var myVar="hey";

console.log(myVar);
}

then outside of the function you call it: myLocalScope()
Does that make sense @Boobsled

why you have 2 class with different color?
just use one for each element

myVar.a means myVar is object and a is its property

Let's say I have this line of codes below:

$('.copy-order').click(function() {

var orders = $(this).siblings().children("h4, h3").text();

console.log(orders);

});

It would print out something like this:
Item 12pc(s). Item 24pc(s)

Which is nice as it prints out the selected content I targeted. However, each element it prints doesn't have whitespace on it. What I want is that it prints outs a line something like this:
Item 1 2pc(s).
Item 2 4pc(s).

How can I achieve that?

Let's say I have this line of codes below:

$('.copy-order').click(function() {

var orders = $(this).siblings().children("h4, h3").text();

console.log(orders);

});

How can I achieve that?

right, so i did that, but the added problem is the I want the icons to fade when moused over, and text to appear over them, and if i put them in a div, the fading activates as soon as i enter that, rather than when i go specifically over the icons

updated the code. this atleast works in the freecodeacademy live-test challenges area

  $(document).ready(function() {

    $("#getMessage").on("click", function() {
      $.getJSON("https://www.freecodecamp.org/json/cats.json", function(json) {

        var html = "";
        html += "<strong>" + "test" + "</strong>: " + "test" + "<br>";

        // Only change code above this line.

        $(".message").html(html);

      });
    });
  });
still doesn't work in codepen though

@BaconTheRabbit Because you make ajax call from freecodecamp.com to the same domain. This is allowed.
But ajax call from codepen.io to freecodecamp.com is not allowed, unless server include CORS headers to response.

@korzo yeah i'm going to use this one for my project https://market.mashape.com/andruxnet/random-famous-quotes
so.. how do i go about using their keys for that?
i have this request example
curl --get --include 'https://andruxnet-random-famous-quotes.p.mashape.com/?cat=movies&count=1' \
  -H 'X-Mashape-Key: LB0jF2N8YWmsh8SJYSRv3j0V0A3ip1xoyaPjsnfqMniwccPKFL' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json'
korzo
@korzo
Jul 01 2017 16:10
@BaconTheRabbit You should sign up there, obtain your your API keys and add header X-Mashape-Key with your key to request
@BaconTheRabbit
$.ajax({
    headers: {
      "X-Mashape-Key": "your key",
      "Accept": "application/json",
      "Content-Type": "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"
    }
});

      "Accept": "application/json",
      "Content-Type": "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"
    }
});
but how do i include it into:
```
also, it looks like you've split both your about me, and portfolio spot with the col-xs-6. just a nick-pick, but i think it'd look better to have your portfolio gallery centered whatever the screen size
well you have to use 2 different quotation marks
otherwise it becomes really difficult to read
you see how this is easier for people or computers to read for context
@Yamand I'm new at this so probably wrong, but do you have to add font.size in your p tag maybe? That's what I would try doing.
I mean font-size oops
<p class font-size>
<p class= font-size>*
@saahil777 Again new to this, but doesn't it have to be hosted on a web url?
@just1witness <p style="font-size:whatever"> to add inline or just you could use CSS classname { font-size:1em; } and then add that class to your p tag e.g.
