Question on getting json from a quote api for the random quote machine project. Apparently codepen can only make https requests but not http requests. I could get the json from the api as described here https://quotesondesign.com/api-v4-0/ working correctly but I couldn't get the json from some of the other api's I've tried. Using https://crossorigin.me/ in front of the page i.e. as in https://crossorigin.me/http://quotes.stormconsultancy.co.uk/random.json didn't work. Was anyone able to get it to work?

i'm not certain you're going to be able to get http apis in codepen even with https://crossorigin.me
my suggestion is find an api served over https

yeah, that's what i could do with https://quotesondesign.com and it worked. I guess we just have to use apis that are given through https. Thanks.

Node.js question: $ npm config get registry prints http://localhost:15443/, but I want it to print https://registry.npmjs.org/. I tried using $ npm config set registry, but that did not work and it still prints http://localhost:15443/. What am I missing here?

/([+-*/])/ should work, try it out on http://regexr.com/

add that and it should work

hmm, are you trying to detect all instances of the arithmetic operations or just one at a time?
because it's working just fine for me with the global search index g. Do you also have what you just tried parenthesized and bracketed? /([\arithmetic_operand])/g

You're doing well. You got the buttons to quick scroll which is some nice progress. I'd say continue to refine the look of the portfolio and maybe after that try animating that quick scroll so that it slides rather than snaps to the programmed position on the portfolio page.

Jul 05 2017 01:44 UTC
i'm trying to understand what it is you're asking
Robert Robbins
@rwrobbins
Jul 05 2017 01:44 UTC
Yes..... I know a text editor can be used and "saved as" HTML.....
Like would something such as visual studio or another app be useful as well
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 05 2017 01:45 UTC
i don't know if visual studio would be the best choice for front end web projects, some folks really like VS Code, which I believe is similar
then again, i know some folks who use IDEs and like them, so I guess it's up to you?
Robert Robbins
@rwrobbins
Jul 05 2017 01:46 UTC
Thought it might come in handy to start getting familiar with those too
... regarless of it being VS, or some other IDE
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80

I mostly write code in a text editor. I like atom, others prefer vs code or sublime text. I've never seen the need for an IDE for web development

I see..
But I cant have loop inside filter function right?
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jul 05 2017 06:04 UTC

@Yonatan1 there is no responsive class.
It means that you have to instruct your elements how to position, width, height, font-size.... for different screen size.

For starter in a col-md-6 means that this column should take 6 spaces in a medium size device... but what about small devices?
You can

<div class="col-md-6 col-xs-12">

And tell the browser to occpuy half the screen for medium and all the screen for smaller and extra-small devices

@MCTwoDigitZero actually correction, Since all the function are scoped inside destroyer function `args is defined since it's all in the scope

@MCTwoDigitZero this is telling:

   for (var j = 0; j < array.length; j++) {
     var args = array[j]; // keep on changing the value of args equal to array[j]
   }

So at the end of the day args is the last element inside array. No other value

@Bomulacious atom is a text editor. Same as word, notepad, evernote and such.
You can create a file, and edit it with Atom.
But then you need something to run that file
Bomee
@Bomulacious
Jul 05 2017 06:30 UTC
@Marmiz right... so my understanding is that it has to be connected to Terminal for that?
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jul 05 2017 06:30 UTC

@Bomulacious for example in atom you can:

create new file and name it helloworld.html
write inside <h1>Hello World</h1>
open that file with Chrome/Firefox....

See the result

@Bomulacious the terminal is just a place where you ask your computer to do stuff.
for simple, imagine that the terminal is doing the same thing as you do by clicking icons... but writing them

@bwscott08 use background-reapeat: no-repeat background-size: cover in the css class you create for the image. the will scale the image correctly

@SweetCodingInc
Jul 05 2017 13:04 UTC

@saahil777 There are two options

1) Change the type of button#send to button. Instead of doing

<button type="submit" class="btn btn-primary" id="send">Send</button>

do

<button type="button" class="btn btn-primary" id="send">Send</button>
OR
keep type="submit" and in your js change your span.onclick to following
btn.onclick = function(e) {
    e.preventDefault();
    modal.style.display = "block";
}

Good morning everyone. I'm stuck on the javascript lesson "Accessing Objects Properties with Bracket Notation"
var testObj = {
"an entree": "hamburger",
"my side": "veggies",
"the drink": "water"
My code follows:
var entreeValue = ["an entree"];
var drinkValue = ["the drink"];

When I run it, it only returns "an entree" and "the drink" instead of "hamburger" and "water." What exactly am I missing?

Hello. I am currently doing my personal portfolio page. I am almost finished, I only need to replace the placeholder image with mine. However, one thing is bothering me a lot. Why is there a scrolling panel on the bottom of the page? I didnt insert any elements wider than 100vw, maybe it's because of excessive margins? I checked all of them and they seemed fine. I'd appreciate it if anyone could have a look and tell me what causes the problem. https://codepen.io/victorfreecodecamp/full/OgvRwR/

Hey, I'm working on recipe box, but I'm having a lot of issues. Currently, when trying to close the modal, I get the error "performUpdateIfNecessary: Unexpected batch number (current 16, pending 9)"
I think it's a problem I have with updating state. Can someone help?

@akashskycodder isn't that because I used col-md-6? md stands for middle sized screens, right? for smartphones its xs, is that why its looking different?

madhuri soni
@sonimadhuri
Jul 05 2017 17:25 UTC
@FirnSage arrays are indexed from 0 this way at first let us index the numbers
0 -> [1,2,3]
1 -> [4,5,6]
2 -> [7,8,9] and so on...
we want to search the element 8 which is present in the index 2 then again let us number the array at index 2:
[2][0]->7
[2][1]->8
[2][2]->9
from the above 8 is found at position array_name[2][1]
Margaret
@Margaret2
Jul 05 2017 17:26 UTC
@DarrenfJ idk, you should ask @Manish-Giri, i think he's moved there permanently :laughing:
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Jul 05 2017 17:27 UTC
@FirnSage it's a set of arrays inside an array.. so the first number is counting from 0 which array the 8 is in.. then the second number is the position in that second array (counting from 0 as well)
@Margaret2 oh yah? oh that's good. a few months back he was saying he wanted more challenging questions and i was all go to the js room
plus now late at night EST this place is a tumbleweed town

Darren
@DarrenfJ
Jul 05 2017 17:30 UTC
@FirnSage and plus @sonimadhuri gave you a good run down above.. can you see how it's the third array that has to 8 (and so it's the 0, 1, 2nd) and then inside that array it's the second position (the 0, 1st) so [2][1]

Regex Specify Upper and lower number of matches Challenge question: let ohStr = "Ohhh no";
let ohRegex = /h{3,6}\s/i; // Change this line
let result = ohRegex.test(ohStr);
I am getting all but the last test to pass... and have tried a variety of combinations for the let ohRegex = but the test says "Ohhhhhhh no" should not pass.. but keeps giving me an error. What syntax did I miss?

Hi chaps! Why toUpperCase function wont work?
function titleCase(str) {
  var splitedStr = str.toLowerCase().split(' ');

  for (var i = 0; i < splitedStr.length; i++) {
    if (splitedStr[i][0]) {
      splitedStr[i][0].toUpperCase(); // << the problem is here
    }
  }

  var result = splitedStr.join(' ');

  return result;
}

titleCase("I'm a little tea pot");

Manish Giri

Jul 05 2017 19:02 UTC
@nevaljawko you're not saving the value anywhere..
Joseph
@revisualize
Jul 05 2017 19:03 UTC
@nevaljawko splitedStr[i][0].toUpperCase(); // << the problem is here ... .toUppercase doesn't mutate the string
Pavel Sokolov
@nevaljawko
Jul 05 2017 19:03 UTC
@Manish-Giri i.e. I need write something like this: splitedStr[i][0] = splitedStr[i][0].toUpperCase(); ?
Joseph
@revisualize
Jul 05 2017 19:04 UTC
@nevaljawko yes and more
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Jul 05 2017 19:04 UTC
@nevaljawko first create a variable to save the return value of the uppercase
then you can combine with it the rest of the letters of the word
and put the formed word back in the array
Joseph
@revisualize
Jul 05 2017 19:05 UTC
@nevaljawko splitedStr[i][0] =... doesnt work.
