I love FreeCodeCamp. I'm learning more than i imagined I could at my age but has anyone else had any issues with this challenge "Testing Objects for Properties" most of it has made sense up to this point but I'm very confused.

Hi could anyone tell me if Sum all numbers in range challenge has any bug??

could someone tell me what is wrong with this code
function sumAll(arr) {
var arr = Math.max(arr[0], arr[1]); //variable to store the maximum number
var minimum = Math.min(arr[0], arr[1]); //variable to store the minimum number
var number = 0; //variable for adding the numbers

//for loop
for (var i = 0; i <= arr; i++) {
    number += i;
}
return (number);

}

(sumAll([1, 4]));

I'm not able to pass the challenge in which it is asking for sumAll([5,10]) and sumAll([10,5]) because the total should be 55 but then the answer should be 45
Garrus Napp

truncateString("A-tisket a-tasket A green and yellow basket", 11) should return "A-tisket...".
this is what I get A-tisket a-...
function truncateString(str, num) {
  // Clear out that junk in your trunk
  var breaker="";
  if(str.length > num){
    breaker = str.slice(0,num) + "...";
    return breaker;
  }else if(str.length <= num){
    breaker=str;
    return breaker;
  }
}

truncateString("A-tisket a-tasket A green and yellow basket", 11);
and that is my code @GarrusNapp
Garrus Napp
@GarrusNapp
Jul 07 2017 00:48
Note that inserting the three dots to the end will add to the string length.
they want whole thing to be 11
not 11+3 dots
of course in this case
because in other However, if the given maximum string length num is less than or equal to 3, then the addition of the three dots does not add to the string length in determining the truncated string.
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Jul 07 2017 00:50

function addTwoDigits(n) {return n%10 + Math.floor(n/10)}
Can someone explain why this works for 2 digits and not 3 or 4? I have gone to the calculator and just became more confused. I'm guessing this is recursion. If this doesn't work for more than two digits, what's the formula for going up in numbers? Is there an easy way of memorizing this phenomena lol?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 07 2017 02:18
n%10 gives you the "ones column" so to speak and Math.floor(n/10) gives you the "tens column"
you would just have to add another operation for the "hundreds column" to do 3 digits
like Math.floor(n/100)
recursion is calling a function from inside that function, it's a little different

On clicking on my '#twitter-btn' button, a separate twitter window with the 'random quote' in its tweet box is opening, but, the problem is that the quote is showing up with '<p>' & '</p>' tags at the beginning & at the end resp.
I checked. this is due to my 'json[num].content' that I am using to publish the quote.
I want the 'paragraph' quotes to be removed.

Following is my code.

Hi guys, I’m trying to debug this. I’m not sure why when I pass through an array into Math.max, it logs NaN. Is there something I’m dong wrong?
var word = "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog";

var newWord = word.split(" ");

var wordLength = [];

for (i=0; i<newWord.length; i++) {
  wordLength.push(newWord[i].length);
}

var longestWord = Math.max(wordLength);

console.log(wordLength);

console.log(longestWord);

Hi All, I have started doing some extra practise as well as FCC to solid my understanding. This challenge is from code wars, and the instructions are to

"Think of a way to store the languages as a database (eg an object). The languages are listed below so you can copy and paste!
Write a 'welcome' function that takes a parameter 'language' (always a string), and returns a greeting - if you have it in your database. It should default to English if the language is not in the database, or in the event of an invalid input."

This is my code now, does anyone know what is wrong

var myDatabase = {
english: "Welcome",
czech: "Vitejte",
danish: "Velkomst",
dutch: "Welkom",
estonian: "Tere tulemast",
finnish: "Tervetuloa",
flemish: "Welgekomen",
french: "Bienvenue",
german: "Willkommen",
irish: "Failte",
italian: "Benvenuto",
latvian: "Gaidits",
lithuanian: "Laukiamas",
polish: "Witamy",
spanish: "Bienvenido",
swedish: "Valkommen",
welsh: "Croeso"
}

function greet(language) {
for (var i = 0; i<=myDatabase.length; i++) {
if (language === myDatabase[i]) {
console.log(myDatabase.i);
} else {
console.log("not a valid ipv4 or ipv6 ip address")
}
} }

@edmundgjj I guess the question is, can you? does math.max do something with an array or is there a sort function you could use instead?
@edmundgjj " Return value: The largest of the given numbers. If at least one of the arguments cannot be converted to a number, NaN is returned." from https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Math/max
seems to suggest using functions with math.max in them to find the max of an array

"The following function uses Function.prototype.apply() to find the maximum element in a numeric array. getMaxOfArray([1, 2, 3]) is equivalent to Math.max(1, 2, 3), but you can use getMaxOfArray() on programmatically constructed arrays of any size.

function getMaxOfArray(numArray) {
  return Math.max.apply(null, numArray);
}

"

@edmundgjj or this one which is the one I've used before:
var arr = [1,2,3];
var max = arr.reduce(function(a, b) {
    return Math.max(a, b);
});

you access an object's property by using it's key
numbers work great for accessing stuff in arrays.. but for objects once you find it';s key (or are given it) you can access it using dot notation by going object.key
but note in the write-up how even there they access the 'second' item in an object pair by calling it with the first item...
if that makes any sense to you

What I have is a 'random quote generator'. As the name suggests, it generates random quotes on button click. In this so called app of mine, I have a button that is supposed to post the 'generated quote'on the facebook wall. The same thing works smoothly in case of my twitter button whilst I am not able to do so in case of facebook.

Following is my working example ..

https://codepen.io/iamrkcheers/pen/gRjoeZ

Instead of the "Say something about this .." text, I want my 'random quote'. Anyway to do this ?!? Anyhelp is appreciated. Thank You.

Jul 07 2017 09:15

We are modifying the replaceAt function using prototype to facilitate the use of the program.

Split the string by whitespaces, and create a variable to track the updated title. Then we use a loop to turn turn the first character of the word to uppercase and the rest to lowercase. by creating concatenated string composed of the whole word in lowercase with the first character replaced by it's uppercase. @stealthygame

@EpicTriffid this way you could rearrange how it will appear in different devices

why is my alert popup blank even though I populate my 'latitude' and 'longitude' variables with my current longitude and latitude.

$(document).ready(function(){
var latitude = "";
var longitude = "";
if(navigator.geolocation){
navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position){
//alert(position.coords.latitude + " " + position.coords.longitude);
latitude = position.coords.latitude;
longitude = position.coords.longitude;
});
}
alert(latitude + " " + longitude);
});

Write a function nextInLine which takes an array (arr) and a number (item) as arguments. Add the number to the end of the array, then remove the first element of array. The nextInLine function should then return the element that was removed.

function nextInLine(arr, item) {
// Your code here
arr.push(item);
var remove=arr.shift();
return remove; // Change this line
}

// Test Setup
var testArr = [1,2,3,4,5];

// Display Code
console.log("Before: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
console.log(nextInLine(testArr, 6));
nextInLine([], 1);
nextInline([2],1);
nextInLine(testArr, 10);
// Modify this line to test
console.log("After: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));

nextInLine([], 1) should return 1
nextInLine([2], 1) should return 2
nextInLine([5,6,7,8,9], 1) should return 5
After nextInLine(testArr, 10), testArr[4] should be 10
these 4 are test case two are passing

Hey I just finished the the Javascript challenge "Find the longest word in a string". The code works. But somehow freecodecamp does not accept the code for the challenge. In the list with all the conditions the code should fullfill there is a "X"-mark instead of the "check" in the specific request: "findLongestWord("May the force be with you") should return 5. " But my code actually DOES return 5.
What should I do now?

Hey, people,

I've been working on the Weather API page and it's been a struggle with all the different APIs. I got it to work with other APIs, but I got so intrigued with the Dark Sky API not working that I created a new simple pen just to figure out what's the issue. Here's my jQuery code for now:

```javascript
if (navigator.geolocation) {
navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position) {
$.getJSON("https://api.darksky.net/forecast/fae17987192498d5e233fe5ba4e42f44/37,-122", function(json) {
$("#data").html(JSON.stringify(json));
});
});
}
The html is just a simple <div id="data"></div>.
Does anyone have a clue on what's wrong?
Thanks!
Hey guys! just started coding and I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong with the lines of code below.
It's #55 - Prioritize One Style Over Another
<style>
body {
background-color: black;
font-family: Monospace;
color: green;
.pink-text {
color: pink;
}
</style>
<h1 class="pink-text">Hello World!</h1>
Your h1 element should have the class pink-text. (Check!)
Your <style> should have a pink-text CSS class with its color set to pink. (Check!)
Your h1 element should be pink. (Nope
oh damn
YOU'RE AMAZING!
after the first time you can just refer to the variable by name
var a = 0;
a = a + 1;
return a;
after a variable is declared, javascript knows it exists so you don't have to keep introducing it
kind of like meeting a new person. you get introduced, then when you see them again you remember them and don't have to be introduced again
