all of the objects have a key named firstName so if (contacts.hasOwnProperty("firstName")) { probably isn't a good approach

well, it's an array so you'll have to use [] to target an index
probably use i to loop through each index
so contacts[i]
then each index is an object, so you can access a specific key with . notation
so contacts[i].firstName
see if that is equal to the variable firstName passed into your function

I'm stuck on calling the wikipedia api (in codepen)...

My code does make a valid url that works when pasting into the browser:

But calling $.getJSON doesn't work...

it's been a tough bout of trial and error... putting https://cors-anywhere.herokuapp.com/ in front doesn't seem to work, although that's what it took to get the weather api working!

@Burinson yes! now instead of return prop; you need to check to see if the property exists
@sgoldber61 you should swap your bootstrap and jquery links so that jquery is first
that won't fix the api call but it will clear the error off the console

And for future reference, none of the APIs we use here in Free Code Camp require a proxy. There is always a way to avoid adding that dependency to your code. For example, with Wikipedia, use &origin=* in your URL so all origins are accepted.

if your first if statement returns false, that means the names don't match. you need to make sure you let the loop run out before you declare that the name doesn't exist. you've not added that part to your code yet

if you're using a variable to access a property in an object you have to use [] notation, so it would be array[index][object property]

I see im trying to figure it out, so the first one runs arr.length, does that go through every number in the array, or since it has multiple arrays does it only see it as one array?

@catapulto semantic is something that conveys meaning. e.g. you can use <h1> </h1> for heading i.e. an enlarged text, but you can have the same text with font-size
so why use heading?
because it conveys a meaning to the browser that this is a heading and not a normal text.

@anthonydesordi don't have any recommendations, although speakingjs, eloquentjs, youdontknowjs I have heard were good. funfunfunction channel on youtube was helpful for understanding functional programming
but you shouldn't look at peoples solutions or how they solve the solutions before you figure it out yourself, you won't learn anything otherwise

change your for loop to use let

^-to check the beginning of string and ['rR'] to check if the beginning is r or R

Hey guys/girls
I'm having issues with the windows client.
Gets stuck every few thousand blocks.
Everytime that happens I have to restart the app.
Its taken me about 2 weeks now and still it has not downloaded all blocks.

I am trying to make a fixed navbar on my portfolio page, however when I fix the navbar the top 50px or so of my page hides under the navbar. I have tried padding the body, but that just brings everything down (including the header).

@jsf2008 i think you could create a copy of the array, then run the loop removing one quote from the array copy each loop using Math.random() to pick one. that way you don't duplicate
so you would set the loop to loop through the dom nodes, not the array

How do I make this function return a random whole number between 1 and 10?

var randomNumberBetween0and19 = Math.floor(Math.random() * 20);

function randomWholeNum() {

  // Only change code below this line.
  var product = 1;
Math.floor(Math.random() * 10);
  return product;
}

I ''passed'' the challenge because it gave me 1 ((whole number) but I'm pretty sure I did it wrong
