How do I access the outer array? ([2, 3])
function destroyer(arr) {
  // Remove all the values

  var args = arr.slice.call(arguments);
   var target = args[0];
  var killers = args[1];

  return killers;

}

destroyer([1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3], 2, 3);

@Burinson there is a special argument in js functions, read here
it gives you an array of all arguments that were passed to the function

@EdithMadrigal You have to at first retrieve current text from #target4, then wrap it with <em>
@daddycardona Your code doesn't work, because codepen doesn't have url /echo/html/
@daddycardona Anyway, why to retrieve data with ajax when you already have them?

yeah they wanted you to use .html() but it says use .text() I see why you got confused @EdithMadrigal
@korzo, I was trying to reconfigured that code. Had a idea that was the issue but i was just trying to go through it. I don't understand how to break it down but the same code works on jfiddle. Like I was looking for an api on how that is working for this code to understand it but what ever i found was more confusing
korzo
@korzo
Jul 23 2017 01:49
@daddycardona What this code does at jsfiddle is, that it calls itself with ajax, retrieve html and parse it . /echo/html/ is url of the result of fiddle you are on
@daddycardona So you want to replace /echo/html/ with real api url

Kevin
@Multipass5000
Jul 23 2017 02:20

@BrewCoffeeSplash I'm super new to this, so I'm not really getting what you mean

These were the directions I was given

Now let's get your form input and your submission button on the same line. We'll do this the same way we have previously: by using a div element with the class row, and other div elements within it using the col-xs-* class.

Nest both your form's text input and submit button within a div with the class row. Nest your form's text input within a div with the class of col-xs-7. Nest your form's submit button in a div with the class col-xs-5.

This is the last challenge we'll do for our Cat Photo App for now. We hope you've enjoyed learning Font Awesome, Bootstrap, and responsive design!

"Line up Form Elements Responsively with Bootstrap"
when i looked up the hints and saw other people's solutions, their code and my code is basically the same
I know i must be missing something, just don't know what. Or i have something extra
@BrewCoffeeSplash
BrewCoffeeSplash
@BrewCoffeeSplash
Jul 23 2017 02:23
@Multipass5000 you nest what's there, not make new text <input> and a new submit <button>
there is only 1 <input type="text"... and 1 <button type="submit"...
Kevin
@Multipass5000
Jul 23 2017 02:24
ahh i see...but still, shouldn't it still work? technically?
BrewCoffeeSplash
@BrewCoffeeSplash
Jul 23 2017 02:24
It's asking you to nest those @Multipass5000
@Multipass5000 your code should work, but the challenge wants you to nest elements that are there already.
Kevin
@Multipass5000
Jul 23 2017 02:24
it's telling me that I nested everything correctly
BrewCoffeeSplash
@BrewCoffeeSplash
Jul 23 2017 02:26
@Multipass5000 your code passes, but you're not doing what it wants
it checks to see if you've nested a <input type="text"... and <button type="submit"... correctly, but it doesn't check to see which element. Adding a whole new form element with text input and a button element will still pass the challenge

Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Jul 23 2017 02:33
@Multipass5000 you have to do 3 divs one around input=text and butto submit class named rowthen you wrap one div around just input=text inside that class = col etc.. then close it and add another dive around button submit called a different class= col-etc.. then you closed your last div
and if I am not mistaking @Multipass5000 your id souds like the 5th element. ; )

madhuri soni
@sonimadhuri
Jul 23 2017 05:00
the onfocus event occurs when an element is focussed .so when the user clicks on the message box the placeholder text changes to ' '.
@rajp1847 the onblur event occurs when an object loses focus.so incase the user clicks somewhere outside the textarea and the textarea is empty then the placeholder value will be inserted again.

@dragonmaiden: You also need to import font-awesome for those iconsn in:
In codepen you can do this:

Settings ——> CSS ——> QuickAdd ——> start typing font-awesome and the click on the link that appears

Or just get the cdn link from: https://www.bootstrapcdn.com/fontawesome/ for future projects where you aren’t using codepen.

}

sym([1, 2, 3], [5, 2, 1, 4]);
How come this returns 2 and not [5, 2, 1, 4]? How do I target the different arrays?
Toiya
@Toiya
Jul 23 2017 12:49
@riosj In the second for loop, j takes up where i left off. So if you get a hit for "J" at index 5 for example, j will start at 5 and then continue to increment until it gets to the index of the end of the name. The reason why it's "myName.length + i" is because i is the index where "J" was found, and myName.length will be the end of the name.
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
Jul 23 2017 12:54
@Toiya args is only the first array passed to the function, you need to use the arguments object to get to the remaining array(s)
Margaret
@Margaret2
Jul 23 2017 12:54
@Toiya because args only corresponds to the first argument, it's like if you did function sym(x) you can include another variable for the next argument, like function sym(x,y) use spread syntax function sym(...args) or use the arguments keyword inside the function

Nope, me too in the early days using Github (and git before Github). If you feel discomfort with learning it, then you are getting somewhere. Your brain is trying to suite the experience which is why the mental barrier stacking up slowly. Remember, when you are almost giving up, that is the right moment to push more further.
curtiscarlson
@curtiscarlson
Jul 23 2017 16:07
@faraco that is really good advice. I just don't know where to turn. simple google searches for this don't work as well as you would think. I am trying to do what I think are very basic things. like undo. I just found a tutorial that has 12 ways to undo and none of them actually undo. its insanity
also submodules or vendor code don't seem to push
its really frustrating
staged changes sometimes don't commit
and then you get errors sometimes that have no documentation
Momozor
@momozor

i dont know how to undo neither.. or if i did ...dont remember
curtiscarlson
@curtiscarlson
Jul 23 2017 16:10
I use both and also the desktop software. All 3 of them suck.
and when trying to debug something that has to do with your server, I end up doing like 25 commits called "push"
super frustrating and you would think to merge them together you could just select a box and hit a button, but nope, that would be way too easy wouldn't it?
so the problem I am having is submodules dont push
and more recently I added a vendor project (just copied the code into my /vendor folder) and it doesn't commit or push
that is in the desktop software
there is no reason given
the box is yellow instead of green...whatever that is supposed to mean? there's no documentation so how would you even know?
so like..the changes are there on the left...and you commit them, and they don't go away
so I tried a manual commit on the command line
it seems to have broken my desktop sofware because now it gives an error Commit failed - exit code 1 received
Momozor
@momozor
Jul 23 2017 16:19
I don't use the desktop software, so I can't help with that. git command line tool + Github site working fine for me.

Jul 23 2017 17:32
hi
any idea why background size:cover on div with height :100vh isn't working on ios devices
displays picture much bigger than it is
Joseph
@revisualize
Jul 23 2017 17:42
@daddycardona @AmirHamzaTanvir
Note: for...in should not be used to iterate over an Array where the index order is important.
Array indexes are just enumerable properties with integer names and are otherwise identical to general Object properties. There is no guarantee that for...in will return the indexes in any particular order.
Viktor Tiutiun
@vittorioVT
Jul 23 2017 17:43
@MarinBegovic you should add size for all screens: "col-lg-6 col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-6"
Joseph
@revisualize
Jul 23 2017 17:45
@daddycardona So, If you need to loop over an Array and you need to keep the order of indexes or if you need to actually return the first instance of an array element. Do NOT use for...in
Marin
@MarinBegovic
Jul 23 2017 17:48
@vittorioVT fair point.but this is not the cause of the problem,those divs are hidden on xs screens
Joseph
@revisualize
Jul 23 2017 17:49

@daddycardona @AmirHamzaTanvir
Also:

var a = [,,,,,5];
for (var x in a) {
    // Shows only the explicitly set index of "5", and ignores 0-4
    console.log(x);
}

So, if you have blank array elements they aren't shown either.

@daddycardona So, using for...in has a TON of issues.
There are even more ... If you make your own Array.prototype... It will show up in your for...in execution.

-moz-background-size: cover;

Viktor Tiutiun
@vittorioVT
Jul 23 2017 18:03
@MarinBegovic I think you just need to fix the errors and see what has changed. Instead 4 containers should do one . Look at your rows. and you will gradually understand the problem

Jul 23 2017 22:38
@qcopeland45 so the input and the submit inputs should be nested inside a div with a row class.You did that except that you placed the row ending div after the form tag. The row div is started inside the form and so must end before the form ends, not after.

@revisualize I never knew that about for in loops, also I never had an issue using it. I always iterate through an array like this and never had an issue. I am going to have to look into it more because I never heard of that. I do understand if an array is undefine etc.. but if the array was already created and done I use this format. but now you imparting your knowledge into me I will research it further

@ericmiller777 there are faster ways, but they require a bit of learning to use
and for small projects aren't really worth the effort
wait, does VS Code have an html preview window?
Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Jul 23 2017 23:41
so for the intermediate projects, it seems im just using html/css and some 3rd party APIs

Doesnt seem like I need javascript till the advanced projects, but at the same time, I see nothing about teaching how to incorporate javascript into my html?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 23 2017 23:42
if you do it in codepen they handle all of that for you
put your html in the html box, css in the css box and js in the js box
Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Jul 23 2017 23:43
Yes I understand that
Just codepen is a bit more.... unprofessional?
should i not be thinking of adding these projects to a portfolio?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 23 2017 23:44
if that's what you want to do, sure
but you can put codepen pages on your portfolio
you can also build locally and host somewhere else too, if you want
Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Jul 23 2017 23:46
@thekholm80 thanks I guess I need to think more about what id rather do, I was planning to use github pages, so that I could show that I somewhat understood source control, but at the same time, it seems using codepen I could rpobably get things done faster.
