well, after a while a pattern emerges and I don't enjoy watching it that much. So I could stop but then if I come back later I will have forgotten the setup for the next episode.
Happened to me with lost. The last 4 seasons I didn't enjoy one bit but only watched to see where it was going.

@alexanderkopke The first season is always good enough. The writers usually start to run out of ideas from there. Yeah I don't like predictable stories either.

You know what we should have? An interactive movie that allows the viewer to create their own plot through their choices and then live the results of those choices.That's be pretty cool.
Oh wait, we already have that. It's called LIFE.

@alexanderkopke There's something similar that was explored in an episode of Black Mirror. The guy was fitted with brain implants that allowed him to experience augmented reality. Then they put him in a horro movie made especially for him.

@serpad doesn't matter
Ramsey Njire
@RamseyNjire
Aug 01 2017 00:11
@serpad This depends entirely on what you want to happen to your heading tags. A div is just a component that you can then modify with CSS. If you're going to apply the same styling to all your headers then put them in the same div. If you're going to do different things with them, then use different divs.
@thekholm80 Lol just saw that Dungeons and Dragons is a game.

@ericmiller777 the great thing about the template literals is you can write the string like you normally would, but wrap any JS you need in ${ ... } to inject it into the string
that way you don't have to concatenate

@phoenix-burn because you are targeting all of them with this:

.container:hover .overlay

since all the overlay are all children of .container.
What you want to target is the direct overlay child,
maybe this:

.hover-img:hover .overlay

is more suited

@Zhisione oh Boot Strap is a opinionated frame work. It set a default size for the paragraph. By using Dev tools you can find it and over ride the default style. The f12 button will usually open the dev tools in your browser. There is a icon in there that is a tool called inspector. Once that is found you can click on your page and find info on CSS.

@Soninko lets see your code
Mamadou
@Soninko
Aug 01 2017 10:39

@heroiczero var count = 0;

function cc(card) {
// Only change code below this line
switch(card){
case 2:
case 3:
case 4:
case 5:
case 6:
return "5 Bet";

case 7:
case 8:
case 9:
return" 0 Hold";

case 10:
case "J":
case "Q":
case "K":
case "A":
  return "-5 Hold";

}

return "Change Me";
// Only change code above this line
}

// Add/remove calls to test your function.
// Note: Only the last will display
cc(2); cc(3); cc(7); cc('K'); cc('A');

@heroiczero These tests are passed but I am stuck with regard to the counting of cards
heroiczero
@heroiczero
Aug 01 2017 10:42

@Soninko

var count = 0;

function cc(card) {
  // Only change code below this line
  switch(card){
    case 2:
    case 3:
    case 4:
    case 5:
    case 6:
      return "5 Bet";

    case 7:
    case 8:
    case 9:
    return" 0 Hold";

    case 10:
    case "J":
    case "Q":
    case "K":
    case "A":
      return "-5 Hold";

  }

  return "Change Me";
  // Only change code above this line
}

// Add/remove calls to test your function.
// Note: Only the last will display
cc(2); cc(3); cc(7); cc('K'); cc('A');

where is your break; and you need to add or subtract 1 from count depending on the card. You are counting cards from a deck. You should also use a if statement to return if you should hold or bet depending on the count number

Guys, can anyone help with Simon Game challenge, how do I make my function wait before executing the same function again (so the sounds and color flashes on the board) act at the time I want and not simultaneosly?
Eric Weiss

Aug 01 2017 12:56
@artbohr i'v heard other people have this problem but haven't worked on it myself.... when you call timeout the js code still goes along and executes the rest of the code, i believe if you add delays it will work properly
korzo
@korzo

@artbohr function can't wait for asynchronous function like setTimeout or setInterval. You have to call back, when asynchronous code is finished

@korzo I should use promises instead of a function or what do u mean? the thing is, I'm using a function inside a for loop which activate a logic of actions with a timer, but when I structure the function to execute in the for loop, it just throws all the functions at once without a timer and doen't wait for a function to finish before executing the next iteration

@DarrenfJ urgh, not really. Firstly, I'm not into pure (or almost) functional language. The abstraction is really high and I do not enjoy it as a beginner to the language. Although, it is somewhat challenging because of our lacking knowledge on lexing & parsing, and maybe will be the right tool for the job since FP is glamorously associated with parsing.

go change it. The test suite want to see the return value of the function. If you don't change it, the test suite see the function returns the string "Change Me!" regardless of your changes before the return phase.
madhuri soni
@sonimadhuri
Aug 01 2017 15:19
@stuartbiggs If myObj has any property like that then the return statement must return the value at that property like this return myObj[checkProp]; else it simply rturns not found!
stuartbiggs
@stuartbiggs
Aug 01 2017 15:24
@sonimadhuri I have changed my code to this but still not sure what is wrong with it -

// Setup

bed: "sleigh"
};

function checkObj(checkProp) {
// Your Code Here
if (myObj.hasOwnProperty("checkProp")) {

What?
@ZehurElmi I'm sorry, I'm confused by your comment. Can you clarify?
Zehur Elmi
@zelmi
Aug 01 2017 18:19
@revisualize Oh I'm kinda new so this question is probably dumb, but on the black screen where we write our codes, how can we tell what parts are HTML and which parts are CSS?
How do I send my code here, maybe a screen shot will help
Abhilash Kumar
@apravink
Aug 01 2017 18:23
@ZehurElmi Your css and your html code is stored in separate files which end in a '.html' or '.css' respectively. You are probably using a terminal text editor like nano or vim to code on your terminal on one of these files
think of opening up two different MS Word files. One of them contains html and the other contains css. That is what you're doing on the terminal
Zehur Elmi
@zelmi
Aug 01 2017 18:29
@apravink what about the coding I'm doing on the terminal here in FCC? I'm in the HTML and CSS section of the map (the first part) and I cant tell how much of my coding is CSS and how much is HTML. I cant see a distinction (I'm sorry, I'm extremely new to this).
Margaret
@Margaret2
Aug 01 2017 18:30
@ZehurElmi the space to edit code on the FCC challenges is not a terminal btw. It's just a dark-themed code editor. Everything that has <>... </> tags is HTML, and the CSS is contained inside the <style> </style> element

Hello guys, i'm currently learning js and i'm struggling with this exercise, that code won't return "No, that was false" when the argument is not (true)

// Example
function ourTrueOrFalse(isItTrue) {
if (isItTrue) {
return "Yes, it's true";
}
return "No, it's false";
}

// Setup
function trueOrFalse(wasThatTrue) {

// Only change code below this line.

if (true){
return "Yes, that was true";
}
return "No, that was false";
// Only change code above this line.

}

// Change this value to test
trueOrFalse(true);

I have an eventlistener on a button that starts a function and changes to button from saying 'start' to 'end'. Inside of the eventhandler i have an if else statement that checks the textcontent of the button to see if it should switch it. Let me know if I have to clarify

@thekholm80 I hate to sound dumb but what it is mainly used for?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Aug 01 2017 21:37
The main reason I use it is because React uses a syntax called JSX that isn't interpreted by normal JavaScript interpreters, so Babel takes that JSX and turns it into something your browser can understand
Also it lets me write the latest version of javascript and translates everything into an older version so older browsers can understand

@stuartbiggs

@anthonygallina1 will you teach me? every time i think i'm getting the hang of it, something comes along and reminds me i'm a total noob

this is what i'm dealing with right now:

WebpackOptionsValidationError: Invalid configuration object. Webpack has been initialised using a configuration o
bject that does not match the API schema.

  • configuration.resolve.extensions[0] should not be empty.

@thekholm80 I would need it in front of me. Grateful I havent had web pack problems yet. I would dig into the line numbers on the errors till it started to make sense.

i wrote my own webpack config when i first started learning react, and i've used it ever since. now i'm trying to set up webpack as express middleware so that i can serve the webpack dev server output instead of running my dev server and express server on separate ports. it's a little more involved
nearly got it, i think
anthonygallina1
@anthonygallina1
Aug 01 2017 22:34
Well I dont know that much. Sounds interesting. I think I have only served the output. Really peaked my interest. I am eager to learn. I was over looking at this doc https://webpack.github.io/docs/configuration.html#resolve-extensions
