@phoenix-burn to center the text give your .banner class width = 100%; Inspect the element and you will notice why it is not centered
korzo
@korzo
Aug 02 2017 02:37
@phoenix-burn .banner is inline-block. It means, it has width of content. Either change it to display: block or give it width 100%
@phoenix-burn or give .banner-background text-align: center

when i minimise the page, they tend to over lap one another
Victor Popescu
@VicPopescu
Aug 02 2017 07:24
@akodia488 first thing, give particles-js a min-height
that min-height should be the height of the content inside
I think 450px should do?
Darth Skywalker
@AdiSkywalker

Emmanuel Akodia
@akodiaemma
Aug 02 2017 07:28
@VicPopescu awesome, the image is now responsive. The "code pirate hi am emma...." is not responsive to the particle effects page,..i want it to become smaller as the screen is reduced as well
Victor Popescu
@VicPopescu
Aug 02 2017 07:31
@akodia488 that is beacuse it is positioned absolute
@akodia488 and a lot of the issues are from that
@akodia488 being absolute positioned an element doesn't take space anymore and gets out of the context
@akodia488 so a first good practice will be to find a better way to position elements relative to their parents, with paddings and margins, and make use of float and absolute only if needed
being relative, when parent container shrink the content inside will be responsive
Darth Skywalker
@AdiSkywalker
Aug 02 2017 07:34
Try to avoid absolute as much as possible
Emmanuel Akodia
@akodiaemma
Aug 02 2017 07:34
so.... what do i do bro @VicPopescu
@AdiSkywalker i will remember that
Victor Popescu
@VicPopescu
Aug 02 2017 07:35
take all of your absolute elements and try to make them relative @akodia488 and use margins and paddings to position them
that will fix all overlaps
and make sure you add a min-height to all containers. and that min-height should be the minimum height of the content inside
Emmanuel Akodia
@akodiaemma
Aug 02 2017 07:36
okay. let me do zat

could someone tell me why this causes an infinite loop?
function sumFibs(num) {
  var fibArr = [0];
  var nextNum;
  for (var i = 0; i < num; i++) {
    if (fibArr[i] === 0) {
      fibArr.push(1);
    } else {
    nextNum = fibArr[i] + fibArr[i -1];
    fibArr.push(nextNum);
    }
  }
  return fibArr;
}
sumFibs(4);
Oh and if I put "4" in place of num, when telling the for loop how long to fun, there is no issue.

@akodia488 btw, I see you're using bootstrap
so dont worry about media queries
If you replace your .code-pirate css class with
.code-pirate {
    margin: 100px 0 0 100px;
}
you will see that it works a little better on smaller screens than before
and also font size reduces to 36px from 63px

guys which event listener can i use to make a javaascript code working as long as the viewer is on the page
i am using the type effect and i want it to always be running, not just one
the current event listener is
<script>

      Typed.new('#type', {
        strings: ["Corporate apps and websites.", "Front and backend development.","Desktop and mobile apps"],
        typeSpeed: 0

function multiplyAll(arr) {
var product = 1;
// Only change code below this line
for (var i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) {
for (var j = 0; j < arr[i].length; j++ ) {
console.log(arr[i][j]);
}
}
// Only change code above this line
return product;
}

// Modify values below to test your code

What is the best way in bootstrap v4 to put text in the middle centre of the page using bootstrap v4? What type of col would I use for that?

Here is my attempt is this the best way or could the effect other elements to my page in a negative way.

HTML/CSS

    <!-- Page content -->
        <div class="container">
          <div class="row">
            <div class="col">
              <div class="main-text text-center">
                <h2>Test</h2>
              </div>
            </div>
          </div>
        </div><!-- /.container -->

    .container {
        height: 100%;
        display: flex;
        justify-content: center;
        align-items: center;

Aug 02 2017 15:51

hello guys can anyone help me out here. this is whart i need to do

Create an object literal and assign it to a variable named car. It should contain a property named speed with a value of 30, as well as a method named increaseSpeed() with one parameter, milesPerHour, that should be used to increase the object's speed.

this is wha i have so far

let car ={
speed:30,
increaseSpeed(milesPerHour){

}
};

Bryan Reese
@breese8009
Aug 02 2017 15:51
@yannijem increase speed should be a function
a function that increases the speed property
juliana E Martinez
@yannijem
Aug 02 2017 15:52

@breese8009 as such?

let car ={
speed:30,
function increaseSpeed(milesPerHour){

}
};

Aug 02 2017 16:25
@eweiss17 oh I don't think I've don this one yet.. is it a fCC challenge? Don't recall it at all. what's it's name?
Eric Weiss
@eweiss17
Aug 02 2017 16:26
@DarrenfJ pretty sure it is not a FCC challenge, was just asking what you meant by pass along
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Aug 02 2017 16:26
@kazanski i don't disagree that what you did is correct.. but um...
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Aug 02 2017 16:27
@kazanski the problem is probably that the code that tests the actual cases is expecting strings where you have a, b, c etc..
so while it works the test code is considering it a failure
as sad as that seems...
i guarantee you it will pass if you sub the actual string for the var you have a, b, c etc..
Karan
@kazanski
Aug 02 2017 16:29
Tried putting strings there as well, but it still didn't qualify
Eric Weiss
@eweiss17
Aug 02 2017 16:29
maybe a typo?
is it expecting a specific sentence ?
Karan
@kazanski
Aug 02 2017 16:30

Ravi Kishore Thella

that will work
space between words is a must
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Aug 02 2017 16:32

@nicmuniz , I live in Seattle. There are several major hubs of tech in the US and Seattle might be number 2. Before hopping into fCC, I interviewed dozens of tech people, from instructors to hiring managers to recruiters to CEOs. I drove Uber and Lyft for a year and gave over 3,000 rides. I even had the founder and former CEO of Moz in my car as I drove him home from a speaking engagement at the University of Washington. We spoke about his experiences and my interest in tech. He gave me a lot of encouragement.

All of that to say this: I know about the huge need. I'll just repeat something I heard a lot from the recruiters and HR people at Amazon, Zulily, Microsoft, etc.: "We will never be able to fill all of our open positions."

Can you really get a job after fCC? Yes, absolutely. Will it be a job with almost guaranteed upward movement? Yes, in my opinion. Will you make more than a mailman? Yes, especially if you relocate. Those are my thoughts.

Even if you don't move up in one company, your experience is what allows you to move up in your career.

Can someone explain to me the difference between ids, classes and inline styling in html and when to use them instead of another
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Aug 02 2017 21:32
some have precedence over others @timsigler
if you go through the FCC HTML/CSS curriculum you'll learn more about that. Inline styling should be used sparingly if at all, better to have your CSS code in one place IMO
Kyle Holm
