It's because firefox doesn't show geolocation popup from iframe
@SourceHorse try add console.log to else{} in geolocation

Aug 08 2017 01:38
@SourceHorse That's really strange. Why would API not return icon in some cases?
When you log response, a.weather[0].icon is missing ?
Ross Scarborough
@SourceHorse
Aug 08 2017 01:39
@korzo Yeah, everything else works. even a.weather[0].description, which is on the same level as .icon
it should be giving me an icon url, but it's not
only edge is getting it
not even my cell phone is working
korzo
@korzo
Aug 08 2017 01:41
@SourceHorse Maybe there is no icon for your weather condition

Been stuck on the JavaScript Word Blanks challenge . Not looking for the answer, but just a hint to point me in the right direction .
function wordBlanks(myNoun, myAdjective, myVerb, myAdverb) {
  var result = "";
  // Your code below this line
  var firstWord = "The ";
  myAdjective = "big";
 firstWord += myAdjective;
  var secondStr = " saw the mailman, then";
  myNoun = " dog";
  secondStr = myNoun + secondStr;
  myVerb = " ran";
  myAdverb = " quickly";
  var thirdStr = " after the frightened postal worker and bit his leg.";
  thirdStr = myVerb + myAdverb + thirdStr;
  result = firstWord + secondStr + thirdStr;

  // Your code above this line
  return result;
}

// Change the words here to test your function
wordBlanks("dog", "big", "ran", "quickly");
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 08 2017 02:20
@mbmontana (myNoun, myAdjective, myVerb, myAdverb) these are parameters/variables
when you put this line:
wordBlanks("dog", "big", "ran", "quickly");
it calls the function wordBlanks
Ross Scarborough
@SourceHorse
Aug 08 2017 02:22

Mike Batista
@mbmontana
Aug 08 2017 02:35
@longnt80 Here's a simple question. Could it not be working for me because I'm putting the adjective ahead of the noun in the sentence I'm constructing?
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 08 2017 02:37
@mbmontana no
because you re-declared your variables making it specific only to "dog", "ran", "quickly", "big"
what if you run this line: wordBlanks("cat", "little", "hit", "slowly")
how does your function give out the correct sentence?
are you gonna re-write your function again? like myNoun = "cat"?

@mbmontana When you have the function declaration of:

function wordBlanks(myNoun, myAdjective, myVerb, myAdverb) { }

and you make the function call of:

wordBlanks("dog", "big", "ran", "quickly");

The parameter myNoun gets the first argument from the function call of a string "dog"

The parameter myAdjective gets the second argument from the function call of a string "big"

The parameter myVerb gets the third argument from the function call of a string "ran"

The parameter myAdverb gets the second argument from the function call of a string "quickly"

Parameters are treated like variables that represent the values that get passed into your function from the function call (arguments).

Another example of this:

function hello(fName, uName) {
     return "Hello " + fName + " " + uName + ", How is your day?";
}
hello("Joseph", "@revisualize"); // "Hello Joseph @revisualize, How is your day?"
hello("Bella", "@bellaknoti"); // "Hello Bella @bellaknoti, How is your day?"
hello("Andy", "@dirn"); // "Hello Andy @dirn, How is your day?"

Please note the space between the two parameters in the code.

    border-radius:0 0.5em 0.5em 0;
    background-color: white;

Hello! I wrote a Python function to check if multiple parameters given to a function were equal to one, and if any of them are, the function returns True. I did this using multiple conditional statements to check each parameter seperately (ie: check_if_none(a, b, c, d, e) checks each variable one by one to see if it == None) but I know there must be a more efficient method. My way feels like a run-on sentence :(
*equal to None

        return False
    if b == None:
        return True

Is it possible to change to the underline height from when the developer uses text-decoration: underline; in CSS to create an underline?

Using CSS I made the word "about" which has an 'id' of '#title4' have an underline and I was wondering how I can change the distance of the height from the underline to the word so there is a bigger gap between both?

Example of what I'm looking for

enter image description here

#title4 {
font-size: 2.5rem;
font-weight: 700;
margin-top: 5rem;
text-decoration: underline;
}

Site code

@bilaal-s you have to put button in your class with operation not just operation so it knows what button is being pressed you are missing that from the class="button
you also have to take the ! in if ($(this).hasClass("operation"))
because that then is ! says does not have the class operation @bilaal-s
are you trying to change the thickness of it? @ldocherty1

I am at the 'Streamroller' challenge in the 'Intermediate Algorithm Scripting' in the 'Front End' part of FCC.
Although, my answer is correct, it does'nt seem to accept it.
Any guesses why.

var newArr = [];
function steamrollArray(arr) {
  // I'm a steamroller, baby
  //var newArr = [];
  for (var i = 0; i < arr.length; i++){
    if (Array.isArray(arr[i]))
      steamrollArray(arr[i]);
    else
      newArr.push(arr[i]);
  }
  return newArr;
}

steamrollArray([1, {}, [3, [[4]]]]);

Thanks anyway.

Ryan Draves
@RyanDraves
Aug 08 2017 14:26
@abdel974 , you have some spelling errors in your code
@abdel974 your component names, firstly, need to be Capitalized. this distinguishes the render of <MySpecialComponent /> from <span />. also, the use of React.Component itself is capitalized, you had a lowercase "component"
Ryan Draves
@RyanDraves
Aug 08 2017 14:31
@abdel974 also, seeing where you're going with this project, be careful to use {} to denote javascript in your JSX. right now you have onClick="myFunction(this.id)" but you need onClick={myFunction(this.id)}

This maybe a dumb questions, but React is for front-end or front and back-end too? I've learned HTML/CSS/JS already, I want to take a step further with frameworks, but I'm still a little bit lost on front-end regarding what to learn. Because I don't need JS for back-end, for that I learned python/Django/MySQL. So what else should I learn for front-end? Thanks.
Dylan

@kbernie react is for front-end, but functions in some ways that replace backend workflows
also node is a js backend should you want to use js
I would learn react or vue

Darren
@DarrenfJ
Aug 08 2017 15:30
@Thayyebsalim hi buddy! how goes the day?
@ProgramNovice lorem ipsem was a latin text that was used by typesetters to 'hold space' on the page so they could see what a layout looked like
@ProgramNovice "Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. "

@ProgramNovice in the case of the exercise, they give a very exact set of text they call kitty ipsum (because it's dummy text like lorem ipsem but as a joke they made it reference cats) that you need to cut and paste into the exercise to show up as 'placeholder' for a paragraph that would eventually be changed to something meaningful

Darren

Aug 08 2017 15:37
@ProgramNovice yes.. it mostly comes from design.. you layout a page and want to see if the number of columns you have looks visually appealing so you layout some columns and fill them will fake text
or if you embed a pic in a column (think newspaper layouts).. you want to see how the text would look wrapped around the pic

@bestintown23 There is lots of errors within your code which is making is hard to identify elements and make changes.

Have you done the html, css and bootstrap courses yet on FCC?

If you done the bootstrap course, then I recommend continuing to learning it and not going to v4. Scroll down to "starter template" and read this http://getbootstrap.com/getting-started/

However, if you haven't done the bootstrap course learn bootstrap v4. Make sure to read and fully take in the information at https://v4-alpha.getbootstrap.com.

If this is for a client and you still have a few weeks to build there site. I'd say start fresh and look at inspiration sites from this site here https://www.templatemonster.com/ to get ideas on how you can produce a more professional and clean design.

@abdel974 I could tell you what to do, but I recently started learning ReactJS and I found this great advice that is very helpful for anyone really. Split your development into two phases: static component >> state management / data acquisition. Why? Because in first one you do a lot of coding and (theoretically) not much thinking, while in the second phase you do a lot of thinking and tiny amount of code. As for the theory behind what you need to do with your data: assign it to your component's state (this.setState(...)), which in result will re-render your component. But this will not work at this point, because you're not using this state in your render function. So first, set initial state of your component manually (2-3 elements, to mimic data you request) and render them, then just do what I said above - set your state

Aug 08 2017 19:16
@abdel974 The componentDidMount lifecycle function is where is it recommended to do API calls to populate your app initially -
@pzaj2 gives good advice about establishing the structure of your state.
You should be able to transfer a lot of your original HTML structure into the render() function as well

        var last = this.href.lastIndexOf('#'); // get where div id starts
        var splitIt = this.href.slice(last); //get the div id
        if (splitIt != "#") {
            if ($(splitIt).scrollTop() <= 50 + 'px')
                $(splitIt).scrollTop(100);

Aug 08 2017 20:58
rel Specifies the relationship between the current document and the linked document

even if the key is randomized, you could still grab it with obj[0] (or 1-2 etc) since it is it's position in the structure, not his name,
