Maybe it's because you're trying to assign a String to an int
not sure if nextInt parses it or not, been a long time since I've done Java
Tyler Furby
@tyler-furby
Aug 15 2017 00:22
nextInt stores that value as an int
If I did String number_of_months = sc.nextInt(); it would throw an error
Christopher McCormack

which line actually matches up with the error? it looks like it's your Scanner method but you have multiple

Hello. I am on the Targeting jQuery Selectors lesson, and I think I have stared at this too long. Here is the script tag and code inside it. I can't tell by looking at the screen if the site thinks something is wrong with my code. The only time I know I'm doing something wrong is to read very carefully. I think that perhaps the incorrect code may be in a different color, or highlighted, or some different font. That kind of thing is difficult to spot with a screen reader, and for accessibility reasons, should be indicated somehow in plain text. Here is the code.
<script>
$(document).ready (function() {
$("button").addclass("animated bounce");

Hello, I’m having issues changing the val of an input/textarea. I’m trying to do so with React, but for some reason setState is storing its value, supposedly passing it back, but when I try to set an inital value, nothing happens. I tried assigning each input with an ID and using jQuery, but that’s not working either. Any ideas?

@RyanDraves generally you don't want to mix React and jQuery, they both fight for control of the same things.
i'll put together a little example of how i like to handle input fields if you think it would help @RyanDraves
@DarrenfJ :wave:

@RyanDraves
Aug 15 2017 15:51
@thekholm80 I’m seeing that as I placed the jQuery to try to render on each update. Looks like I had some synchonization issues and now they alternate turns winning for control
@thekholm80 actually, could you look at the project in question? It seems that the state is 1 step behind the user, and fails to update anything

Aug 15 2017 15:56
@daddycardona If I recall you break it down by each letter, and the case of 1 sub-letter before it (like V and IV, X and IX). I think I did it by sorting through the highest letter, any case of its subletter coming beforehand, then copying and pasting those two things 4 times and changing what letters it’s checking for and printing out. think I began by taking the number and making an array of that many “I”’s, such as 10 equals [I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I]

@ygordantas you an append a timestamp or something random to the URL when you request it and it should give you a new one. With jQuery you can add the cache: false property to the ajax parameters
jQuery will also parse the parameter _={timestamp} directly from the URL string
although I haven't tested the latter
@ygordantas you can use my example pen for caching - https://codepen.io/cmccormack/pen/PmgRYZ

Stuck on Profile Lookup in Javascript

Instructions: A lookUpProfile function that takes firstName and a property (prop) as arguments has been pre-written for you.

The function should check if firstName is an actual contact's firstName and the given property (prop) is a property of that contact.

If both are true, then return the "value" of that property.

If firstName does not correspond to any contacts then return "No such contact"

If prop does not correspond to any valid properties then return "No such property"

Am I heading in the right direction?

//Setup
var contacts = [

@ericmiller777 your image is floated so the only way is to set a fixed height for li and the image
Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Aug 15 2017 22:46
@longnt80 i dont have to float it i just want the image to the left
but how can i se the size responsivly
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 22:47
@ericmiller777 btw, you don't need to close the tag for img, you can remove the closing tag <img id = "logo" class="img-responsive"" src="${data.logo}">

@ericmiller777 actually, add overflow: hidden; to your li
and height: 150px; to you img
this will fix your issue

@mbmontana Your if statement is using assignment = not comparison == or ===
@mbmontana
get out of the habit of for loops without {} it makes the code hard to read and error prone.
Also, all that if /else on one line is also not recommended style
@mbmontana So, if the firstName matches the contact - you want to then test the property and return the property value.
You are not supposed to return firstName or prop that are passed into the function

@longnt80 https://ericmiller777.github.io/Twitch_App_freeCodeCamp/ looks good, but on small screens the text goes around the picture, id rather if the text stayed to its side is there a way of doing that?
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 23:08
@ericmiller777 then put the text inside another div and float: left on that div too
Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Aug 15 2017 23:08
left not right?
i want it to stay to the right of the image
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 23:11
@ericmiller777 yeah you can make float:right
float:left would have the same effect because img is the precedent item
i tryed useing a span that didnt work trying a div now
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 23:13
@ericmiller777 no
Eric Miller
@ericmiller777

@longnt80 yea now its like i did a <br>
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 23:14
sorry, you need to set width for float element
Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Aug 15 2017 23:14
@longnt80 hmm?
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 23:14

Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Aug 15 2017 23:14
okay i set width:auto?
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 23:15
@ericmiller777 so you need to set width for both the img and span
not auto
in percentage
I think for this layout, flexbox is simpler
@ericmiller777 here's the fix if you want to use float: https://codepen.io/longnt80/pen/Evbwmp

Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Aug 15 2017 23:22
maybe just bootstrap?
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 23:23
@ericmiller777 you can remove height: 107px now
@ericmiller777 ah, you has an ' in your css: width: 80%' making it invalid :D
Eric Miller
@ericmiller777
Aug 15 2017 23:25

Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 15 2017 23:40
