hey guys I am new to express and node js. Can anyone help me to organize files and folder. It is so confusing to me right now
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
Aug 30 2017 01:20
@sabin20 There are as many ways to organize as there are developers.
But I have seen where your static files are in a separate folder, e.g. public.
Then the files that serve the routes are in another folder.
If you are doing something with a database you can put the model files in another.
At the top level you might only have a couple of files, your main js file and package.json
@sabin20 google express app layout and there are a lot of suggestions
@abdelmageedahmeed Are you asking where you store the image file for your page?

and i don't know how to redux without named classes
Jan Shah
@JanShah
Aug 30 2017 04:20
i don't think there's a specific need for it sometimes, the import is tied to the js file
unless you have multiple exports in one js file
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Aug 30 2017 04:21
@NahuelOvejero here's one of my router definitions
 <div className='home'>
        <div className='home-title'>Click, Vote, Share!</div>
        <Switch>
          <Route exact path='/' component={ AllPolls } />
          <Route path='/success/:userID' component={ Success } />
          <Route path='/poll/:id' component={ ShowPoll } />
          <Route path='/results/:id' component={ Results } />
          <Route path='/create' component={ Create } />
          <Route path='/logout' component={ LogoutScreen } />
          <Route path='/mypolls' component={ MyPolls } />
          <Route component={ FourOhFour } />
        </Switch>
      </div>
the <Switch> tells it to route a single component for a matching path
err render not route
Jan Shah
@JanShah
Aug 30 2017 04:22
redux has multiple exports, component is tied to the js filename if you use separate files
Nahuel Ovejero
@NahuelOvejero
Aug 30 2017 04:22

I guess I can't even cheat my way through this challenge. Instructions: Write a function that splits an array (first argument) into groups the length of size (second argument) and returns them as a two-dimensional array.

I got an error that says this line myChunk = arr.slice(index, index + size);} is a potential infinite loop. Any thoughts?

function chunkArrayInGroups(arr, size) {
  var index = 0;
var arrayLength = arr.length;
var tempArray = [];
var myChunk;
  // Break it up.

  for (index = 0; i < arrayLength; index += size) {
  myChunk = arr.slice(index, index + size);}
  tempArray.push(myChunk);
  return tempArray;
}

chunkArrayInGroups([0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5], 4);

otherwise myChunk only contains the data from the latest loop

Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Aug 30 2017 07:30
well .json() returns a promise
Body.json()
Takes a Response stream and reads it to completion. It returns a promise that resolves with the result of parsing the body text as JSON.
instead of trying to read from a promise object
I just resolved it with the return value
then read it with .then

It's because backogrund of your image and page has different color.
Add background-repeat: no-repeat to body and also background-size: cover.
Also #result is <ul>, but you append <div> to it

你的 <style> 包含一个将 color 设置为 pink 的 pink-text CSS class。
你的 h1 元素应该为粉色。

<style>

Anyone here familiar with D3 and tooltips? I'm still stuck on this problem. I am going through a more thorough d3 tutorial but this is still unresolved for me.
https://codepen.io/knight2/pen/mMxXzv?editors=0011

My z-index for the tooltip is the highest, I use visibility hidden/visible for showing the tooltip, mouseover and mouseout are called correctly as I print to console when it happens, but I still do not see the text of the tooltip anywhere....

var tooltip = d3.select(".chart").append("div")
  .attr('visibility', 'hidden')
  .attr("id", "tooltip")
  .style("z-index", "10")
  .text("placeholder tooltip");

and

    .on("mouseover", function(d) {
    tooltip.transition()
    .duration(200)
    .style('visibility', "visible")
    .style("font-size", "50px");
    tooltip.html("new text!");
    console.log("mouseover");
    })
    .on("mouseout", function(d) {
      tooltip.transition()
      .duration(200)
      .style('visibility', "hidden");
    console.log("mouseout");
  });

@knight2

great except for the challenge I believe you are supposed to have two visible fields for your numbers

That's not a requirement though

User Story: I can add, subtract, multiply and divide two numbers.
User Story: I can clear the input field with a clear button.
User Story: I can keep chaining mathematical operations together until I hit the equal button, and the calculator will tell me the correct output.
knight2
@knight2
Aug 30 2017 14:09
@longnt80 ah yeah you are correct. I just assumed it was part of the requirements from when I did it looking at the example.
@mukul09 so actually everything is good
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 30 2017 14:11
@knight2 yeah, but it's good to have 2 output fields
@mukul09 2+3=5.00
maybe just 5?
also, after the result, if I click another number, it adds to the last result
so 2+3=5.00, if I click 4, it is 5.004

and I think this requirement is not fulfilled:

User Story: I can keep chaining mathematical operations together until I hit the equal button, and the calculator will tell me the correct output.

Hi everyone! Can someone help with this JS function

Character Frequency

Function signature: charFreq(sentence)
Write a function that takes an English language string and returns a JavaScript object with characters as keys, and character frequencies as values. Ignore whitespace, numbers, non-english characters and all punctuation. Case is not significant ("a" and "A" count as the same character). Use lowercase characters as keys in the returned object.

var frequencies = charFreq (‘Hey? Is anyone there? Ok, I’m sure they’re not.’);

{
    h: 3,
    e: 7,
    y: 3,
    i: 2,
    s: 2,
    a: 1,
    n: 3,
    o: 3,
    r: 3,
    u: 1,

@LightDev777 yah, with glitch there's no need for a credit card, (they were using cloud 9 previously to it being bought by Amazon? I think it was)

Darren

Aug 30 2017 15:25
and continues here: freeCodeCamp/freeCodeCamp#9826
basically they want stand alone web based site that allows you to set up an environment for backend stuff without logistical issues.. and they want to move towards being able to automate the testing for passing the exercises...
glitch is created by the stack overflow guys so I think they're supporting it because it's intended to be a playground for coding without all the headaches of the usual environment set-ups...
Charmie Camille D. Quiño
@LightDev777
Aug 30 2017 15:30
very interesting...
My Heroku account was created I think 3 years ago so I don't remember entering credit card info on it. I guess there's a limit of being free especially if the platform is quite great.
If they wanted to automate, I guess the full proof way is to create their own platform/environment for campers to do their back-end, similar to cloud9 or heroku, although that would be quite complex and would be a whole different product than FCC.
