I wil check now @Hijerboa
@Hijerboa it gives you a possible infinite loop error
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Sep 09 2017 00:16 UTC
@Hijerboa all you have to do is add this // noprotect
anywhere on the place
Nick Cleary
@Hijerboa
Sep 09 2017 00:18 UTC
@daddycardona yep! that fixed it. Thank you!

Yes what was happening is that it thought you could possibly be making an infinite loop so you had to do that, well that is one solution out my way now too lmao
@Hijerboa
Nick Cleary
@Hijerboa
Sep 09 2017 00:26 UTC
@daddycardona yeah... it wasn't exactly the most efficient algorithm I've ever written....
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Sep 09 2017 00:27 UTC
@daddycardona did you finish up the algorithm challenges yet?
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Sep 09 2017 00:28 UTC
I didn't even pay attention to it and deleted it because I want to try on my own, now I have to redo the pig latin one because I did it wrong lol
@Hijerboa
no @thekholm80
I am redoing pig lating because what I did was satisfied the needs of the checks but did not realize what a consonant cluster was so when I looked it up I was damn back to the drawing board lol
@thekholm80
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Sep 09 2017 00:30 UTC
ah, yeah some of the challenges are not worded the best
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Sep 09 2017 00:34 UTC
well I didn't know what that was it is basically more than one consonant next to each other lol
aRtoo
@artoodeeto
Sep 09 2017 00:35 UTC
whats up fam!!! quick question. should i get the total of cid from this algorithm challenge entitled Exact Change
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Sep 09 2017 00:35 UTC
So now I am trying to figure something else like possibly using an array and all these other methods they suggest
what up @artoodeeto I don't know yet lol
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Sep 09 2017 00:37 UTC
i don't remember the pig latin challenge
wow, 23 lines of code in my solution
i cringe when i look at my old code
Albert Cardona II
@daddycardona
Sep 09 2017 00:39 UTC
it basically take a word all lowercase and if it starts with a vowel add way to the end and consonants from the begining before a vowel cut add to the end and ay lol
Henry
@GitHub-Henry
Sep 09 2017 00:45 UTC
@thekholm80 it's interesting to look back on old code. it's like, wow, what was i thinking

I wish younger me would have learned the importance of meaningful variable names sooner
Nick Cleary
@Hijerboa
Sep 09 2017 00:47 UTC
@thekholm80 foo is the only variable name necessary
simply add numbers to the end of it if more than one variable is necessary

yah I've seen that one... I just hate regex...
took the CodeSchool course on it and it finally made sense.. at least the regex logic.. it's just linking it to js to get it remove, return, change values is always a nightmare for me
it's like I just can't grok it

I hear ya though @DarrenfJ I can get it to match perfectly, but half the time it won't actually execute and I don't know why. The last time I tried it on codepen it just plain broke my code, but when I copied/pasted it to the fcc console, it worked perfectly...

great job man
did you try to find a job?
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 09 2017 17:32 UTC
i think the goal thing was suggested in podcast i was listening to at the time
i finished the 500 brownies around Xmas last year and the beat was rumoured to be released so i thought I'd wait til the beta before finishing up the projects/certs...
then when they got rid of the help button I thought why not finish projects.. cause not so many people were coming in here to get help..
how long does it takes?
I started July of the year before but my goal was to only do few exercises each day..
Saber I.
@icybears
Sep 09 2017 17:35 UTC
I think the fcc learning material takes too much time to go through
i've personally used outside learning material and only did the projects
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Sep 09 2017 17:35 UTC
when i started fCC still had the links that referred to Codecademy courses and external resources.. and i did like 80+ exercises a day and was close to completion of the curriculum then.. but then they added a bunch of stuff to the be the present one.. that's when i flipped to doing it one or two a day
Saber I.

@AndreyAzimov in terms of a job i've worked in IT as a QA. BA PM for several years.. my undergrad is in mech Eng but was in robotics and control systems
@icybears it is pretty comprehensive :D but when people used to come and ask they often didn't know that you only had to complete the * projects and algos to get the certs..
i think Quincy's goal was to build up an independent set of learning material for absolute beginners...
the original map was a linkfarm to other courses.. and you checked off the steps as you completed them yourself
Saber I.
@icybears
Sep 09 2017 17:38 UTC

Tiago Correia
@tiagocorreiaalmeida

Hi guys, im getting this error on my laptop: "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key" also my HDD is not detected in Bios, so maybe someone knows how to solve this problem (laptop is lenovo ideapad 300)?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld

if your HDD isn't detected you need to look at that, see if the cables are fully plugged in. If they are the drive mightve went bad
