In React is it possible to pass a prop from one class to anotheR?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Nov 27 2017 00:15 UTC
yes, you have to access it with this.props.whatever instead of just props.whatever in a class component

@LukeAlSaba

@thekholm80 I just used my bar chart code and changed somethings to make it scatter plot basicly with a few changes more, feels a bit chitty, but d3 is great for reusing ur code ^_^
some things*
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Nov 27 2017 01:36 UTC
lol yeah, at the end of the day the process is pretty much the same for most basic D3 charts
artbohr
@artbohr

@thekholm80 not chitty, I meant like "cheating" xD

Nov 27 2017 01:37 UTC
hehe, maybe making it from the start would get me a better grasp, but we are too lazy for that, right? xD well, I'm sure in the next project I will stumble in to some hard things, feels like the projects level is going up @thekholm80

Darren
@DarrenfJ
Nov 27 2017 04:54 UTC
@khaduch i'm gonna head into the animations stuff soon (ish) but really enjoying revistting the basics of CSS...
@khaduch good, busy but with frivolousness... in a binge watching loop with Star Trek and Rick and Morty... but planning to crunch through a few CSS vids now
:D
@artbohr for your fastest rides plot.. really really like the simplicity of a nice big blue dot
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Nov 27 2017 04:56 UTC
@DarrenfJ - I should go back to the basics of CSS - I was just interested in seeing animation stuff again, I started another course about animations on a different site, so I wanted to get a little bit of a refresher. I have to try and use it somewhere (I basically gave up on the CSS challenges in the November challenge - too much to learn to catch up to that level!)
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Nov 27 2017 05:02 UTC
yah i'm going to wait and go through them later... right now i want to shore up my CSS to a point where I'm really putting together stuff I'm way more proud of aestehtically
right now my stuff is like a bare cupboard ;)
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Nov 27 2017 05:05 UTC
@DarrenfJ - it's a good goal. I have seen some projects on here from people who seem to really know their stuff with CSS styling - I'm really interested in getting better with that part of design!
Darren
@DarrenfJ
Nov 27 2017 05:32 UTC
me too tbh
can't wait til inline block and block merge into one unholy alliance in my mind where I can just flip flop between them and make navs go vertical and horizontal with my mind ;)
and psuedoclasses are used effortlessly like classes and ID's :D

@DarrenfJ a block element is a normal positioning element with normal properties. Just a block. Inline-block is a block on its inside, but to the outside it behaves like TEXT. It therefore positions itself as if the block is some part of the text. Thats why it flows horizontally.

Nov 27 2017 14:48 UTC
@gishy1 what issue are you having
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Nov 27 2017 15:01 UTC
@gishy1 - have you put code in that page? Perhaps there is a loop that is causing it to "freeze". If you have put code in there, you can try to run it without the autorun feature by turning it off when you load the page. Here is an article in the forum about how to do that: https://forum.freecodecamp.com/t/disable-code-auto-run-on-free-code-camp/19511 --- just in case you put some code in and it happens to be causing an infinite loop.

When you edit a classes prop in react can is there a way to only edit a specific prop?
Cause I have a class with 4 props and whenever I want to edit one of those 4 props I always have to send values for all 4 props

hey I'm stuck on the problem Manipulating Complex Objects ```
var myMusic = [

  {
    "artist": "Billy Joel",
    "title": "Piano Man",
    "release_year": 1973,
    "formats": [
      "CS",
      "8T",
      "LP" ],
    "gold": true
  }
  // Add record here
  {

    "artist": "Missy Elliot",
    "title": "Supa Dupa Fly",
    "release_year": 1997,
    "formats": [
      "cassette",
      "video",
      "CD"]
  };

  ];
