@GitHub-Henry i ran the old project and played with it in the browser a little and there was nothing special about it. I didn't feel bad at all about tossing it out lol

@thekholm80 what does GraphQL offer that you like
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jan 06 2018 00:20
a single api endpoint
and the ability to fetch only the data i need

Jan 06 2018 00:21
@GitHub-Henry guess it's time for me to read something like https://dev-blog.apollodata.com/graphql-vs-rest-5d425123e34b

it's a whole new ecosystem to learn, but I'm liking it so far
also it lets you subscribe to data, like socket.io does, so you can get updated data without having to make new requests
it's pretty neat

man async / await looks so much cleaner than promise chaining
Henry
@GitHub-Henry
Jan 06 2018 01:20
@thekholm80 I was just playing with promise chains
Here's a chain to get location and weather
fetch(lRequest)
  .then(data => data.json())
  .then(geoLocation)
  .then(data => data.json())
  .then(log)
  .catch(error);

Jan 06 2018 01:21
I was looking at async and await just this week
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jan 06 2018 01:21
here's my example
with chains:
yelp.accessToken(config.yelpID, config.yelpSecret)
      .then(response => {
        const client = yelp.client(response.jsonBody.access_token);

        client.search({
          term: 'bar',
          location: req.params.loc,
          radius: 40000,
          limit: 50
        }).then(data => {
          res.json(data.jsonBody.businesses);
        }).catch(error => {
          console.warn(error);
          res.send({ error: error });
        });
      }).catch(error => {
        console.warn(error);
        res.send({ error: error });
      });
async/await:
searchYelp: async (root, data, context) => {
      const response = await yelp.accessToken(yelpID, yelpSecret),
            client = await yelp.client(response.jsonBody.access_token),
            result = await client.search({
              term: 'bar',
              location: 'los angeles',
              radius: 40000,
              limit: 50
            });

      return result.jsonBody.businesses;
}

Hey guys, i don't know if anyone can help me but here's my question. I'm doing a website have 4 static html pages, and I want the 5th page to be a WordPress site. How would I go about doing this. The navbar links should work on the html pages, and the wordpress pages.
Gersho
@Gersho
Jan 06 2018 22:43
shouldn't a navbar with standard href do the job ? or i didn't understand what you meant
slri
@slri
Jan 06 2018 22:50
you mean you want the same navigation on both?
if so you have a few choices: a) change the location wp will look for header.php at (takes some googling) b) paste your navigation into active theme's header.php (but be careful, there are some useful function calls there possibly) or c) give up on that dream
as for the 5th page being wordpress you'd need to be a little bit more specific
Daniel
@dkapexhiu
Jan 06 2018 22:54
hi! how can i make the labels and the corresponding inputss in the same line through css:
for example <label><input><br><label><input>
here's the link of what it is looking right now: https://ibb.co/dtMEXG
slri
@slri
Jan 06 2018 22:56
@dkapexhiu give them display: inline-block and figure out how much space they should take up, but if you're using Bootstrap you can just give them col classes
then again i can't know what kind of options you have since you didn't show any code
Gersho
@Gersho
Jan 06 2018 22:58
bootstrap also has .form-inline
slri
@slri

@slri

i think he just wants something like
label | input box |
label | input box |
then again you could probably add that class to a wrapper of the label and input box
depends on what sort of properties it gives
Gersho
@Gersho
Jan 06 2018 23:01
depends if he's expecting more mobile users or big screen users

you can't bid on anything
and it's useless basically cuz you need to get requests from other people to begin with seems like
oh you actually have to like be verified
idk what that means
maybe just email address

Kyle Holm

Jan 06 2018 23:49
maybe they just want you to prove you can write code
slri
@slri
Jan 06 2018 23:49
and then have your bid approved or something
i mean i can but all my shit is either on bitbucket, codepen, or scattered
it's not like i've been building one thing for the past 6 years and it's finally done
then again if i was building 1 big thing it wouldn't be good either
meh
i'm kinda disappointed cuz i actually didn't try with the links lmao
should give me more of a reason to fix up my github, linked in and stuff

@RuinIsProbablyTaken We have a admin room where you can report issues like drama going on in the room. We'll have a look at it and take appropiate action if needed :)
If you hold Alt while clicking on the timestamp of the message, it will generate a link you can post there. That makes it easy for us to find the message you're talking about :)
