it never used too
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:07
@santana3531 you're going over https and not ssh
same things, different auth method

@Manish-Giri I love the documentation example:

export class CommentsPage extends Component {
    componentWillMount() {
        this.props.subscribeToNewComments({
            repoFullName: this.props.repoFullName,
        });
    }
}

easy... now I have to figure it out how to actually subscribe.

Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 23 2018 03:11
@Marmiz using RxJS?
Claudio Restifo

lol

you really like to control your components, don't you? :laughing:

oh hey @Marmiz can teach me apollo-react so i don't have to go through howtographql.com
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:23
@thekholm80 yeh:
step 1: find someone good to make your graphql backend
step 2: install some dependendncy
step 3: go into the graphql playground and try the queries
step 4: ???
step 5: somehow the data is in your component as prop
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:24
lol
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:24

i don't know if i'm good, but the back end is done
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:24
so the client is easy
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:24
and i think i've got the gist of the front end, i just need to figure out how to pass parameters into my queries
in GraphIQl it's easy lol
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:25
are you using apollo
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:25
yeah
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:25
so it's easy
let me find one I have
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:26
also, am i going to get weirdness happening using redux and apollo?
Sam Goldberg
@sgoldber61
Feb 23 2018 03:29
I have been having weird problems where mLab will randomly stop working. I.e. my mongoose connection to mLab will not work and time out. But this problem also randomly goes away after waiting for a few hours or so.
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:30
that's really strange
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:31
maybe they have a usage limits?
Sam Goldberg
@sgoldber61
Feb 23 2018 03:33
I checked their connecting troubleshooting faq and their was no mention of usage limits. They said that Microsoft Azure's hosting could have problems, but I'm using Amazon hosting. Yeah, it's weird.
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:34

@thekholm80 anyway it's generally something like this:

const SomethingWithApollo = graphql(YourQuery, {
  options: {
    props => return { var1: props.1, var2: props.2P }
},
})(Something);

You can process your props as a function in the options argument of the query

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80

interesting, thanks @Marmiz

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:37
@Marmiz do you know if i have to explicitly tell apollo to send cookies to my server?
i know i had to with axios
Gersho
@Gersho
Feb 23 2018 03:37

You can process your props as a function in the options argument of the query

that sounds very conveniant, can't wait to try the backend challenges

Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:38

So in general I write my queries as:

const myQuery = gql`...`

const mapPropsToVariables = ({destructure, all, the, props}) => {
  // compute, process and so on and return a finished object
  return {
     enabled: true
  }
}

// then pass it in my component
const withQuery = graphql(myQuery, {
  options: { variables: mapPropsToVariables }
})(BaseComponent)

Each time the prop change the function will be called again and the query made (or fetched from cache)

so bye bye redux
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:39
i'm using redux to interact with my rest api (authentication)
but I think i could probably eliminate it

@Gersho you'll find it on every documentation, I haven't reinvented the wheels :smile:
@thekholm80 Yeah, I had that as well with redux-saga for the async operation and so on.
turns out apollo send the data as props to your component so you can map the response (like I just did with variables) to use them in your component
pretty much the same as mapStateToProps from connect
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:51
that makes sense
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:52
now the real question is how TF I integrate subscription into my client T_T
lol
i hope it's as easy as socket.io was
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 03:57
@thekholm80 the things is that I also have some middlewares in between

so this:

const client = new ApolloClient({
  link,
  cache: new InMemoryCache()
})

is not moy case

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 03:58
that's the problem with trying to learn from tutorials, they teach you how to do things 1 way, and it's never the way you need
image.png
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 23 2018 04:07
@Marmiz do you know what this is asking
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 04:09
@thekholm80 you have errors with preflight. Have you set some same origin policy (and similar)
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Feb 23 2018 04:09
yeah, i fixed all that lol now i have a new crop of errors
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 04:10

@Manish-Giri I think that no matter what values of A i pass, B should a value so that the sum will always be 123.

So you have to decide the value of B based on the value of A

or so I understood
(and apparently they're all Int, no float)
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 23 2018 04:11
as an example, if a is 500, only way a+b is 123 would be if b is -377
but b can't be negative
Gersho
@Gersho
Feb 23 2018 04:15
i don't know java but the (int) is surprising to me, it's as if they're telling you to solve it via something else than integers
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 23 2018 04:16
I tried casting it to char but no result
123 is {
Gersho
@Gersho
Feb 23 2018 04:17
i was thinking about chars too, but have no idea how that would work, it's juste that the (int) trigger that part of my brain that says "there's a trick" (my favorite part in a rpg is the puzzles :3 )
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Feb 23 2018 04:17
intresting problem tho... I'm pretty sure the solution is one of those "it's so simple it's almost dumb" kind of thing
Manish Giri

Feb 23 2018 04:19
you could add a c translation, even python
Gersho
@Gersho
Feb 23 2018 04:20
for that i would need to solve it in one available language
is a+b gonna be a normal sum ? can't we somewhat twist the code to do a binary sum ?

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
font-size:16px;
}
h1{
font-size:16px;
}
</style>

@JarryHua here is the correct answer
<style>
  .red-text {
    color: red;
    font-size:16px;
  }
  p{
    font-size:16px;
  }
</style>
