@danmalone89 what kind of app?
Dan Malone
@danmalone89
Mar 07 2018 02:27
@thekholm80 , I'd really like something that I would allow me to work on a project from work where I don't have any locally installed IDEs.

any kind of project in particular? the answer will be different based on what language you want to use, what you want to build, etc
if all you're looking for is to write some code then compile, deploy, whatever when you get home you can just use github

@danmalone89 cloud9 allows you to full stack, codepen is front end only, stackblitz allows you to develop angular and react with an online vs code

@danmalone89 i think C9 might require a credit card, but I don't remember for sure. I think glitch.com will do all the same things without requiring a credit card
if that's important

@MukeshAngrish Just to clarify, you pointed out

"There should only one source of truth".

This rule is valid. However, it's validity depends on context.
React applications are assumed to be written with one source of truth. It means for this rule to be valid, your application has to implement a store. It can be done by using redux, fkux or flow. You're using none of them. There is no centralized store in your application. Therefore that rule is not 100% applicable in your scenario.

Hey @SweetCodingInc, I learnt ReactJS from the official documentation, and this link doesn't mention different contexts for the validity of the rule.
I don't know what a store is. Can you point me to some article explaining this. 😁
Sweet Coding :)
@SweetCodingInc
Mar 07 2018 07:40
@MukeshAngrish There you go
The reason the link you shared doesn't mention contextual validity is, like I said earlier, that the react applications are assumed to be written with a store.
The lifting state up document just conceptualizes half ass implementation of store concepts.
Even though the top level component holds the entire state, the component/state object itself doesn't support publish/subscribe mechanisms.
Mukesh Kumar Angrish
@MukeshAngrish
Mar 07 2018 07:43
@SweetCodingInc Funny it never mentioned store or Redux

You can not directly bind data to a child component that is, say third level, down the hierachy
which is possible with stores

Mar 07 2018 07:50
@SweetCodingInc
Okay. But, one question regarding this. In context of the Recipe box, it is just one level down from the parent component, then why doesn't it allow us to update more than one characters without using something like the store?

Need feedback for designing challenges. we are making the new css variables challenges where campers learn concepts by modifying a penguin made with CSS. I was wondering if campers would appreciate the penguin wave at them on the last challenge. what do you think? https://codepen.io/abdolsa/pen/NyZMbO?editors=0100

@ahmadabdolsaheb that looks nice!

Mar 07 2018 08:15
@MukeshAngrish It's not related to use of store or not. Read more about lifecycle hooks. If you implement another lifecycle hook called componentWillReceiveProps, you will see that component re renders whenever you pass the data to parent and then via props, it comes back again to your compoent. In this cycle, your state object resets and disables your edit flag
so it give you the impression that it only allows one character update. But what happens is your component loses current state because you received new set of props
