For hosting your website on a server, is it better to push changes directly to your server, or have your server update off of your github repo? For example microsoft azure can have web app's deployment option either via git so you'd push directly from visual studio code/your laptop to azure, or you can have to update via github repo, and just update the github repo.
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 14 2018 00:12
@knight2 i would think it would depend on your specific use case. if i had a full team of devs pushing to a repo, i'd probably want something like travis to update the production environment when things merge into the main branch. if it's just me making some fcc project, that's probably overkill
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Mar 14 2018 00:13
@knight2 - I would say that if you are making changes to your website, you definitely want to have a github repo to get the version control. I don't know if there is any advantage to pulling from github vs. direct upload to the server, unless it was simpler to rollback if you were connected to the repo - so that's a couple things I can think of off the top of my head.

if it's just me it's no big deal to type git push origin master && git push heroku master

Mar 14 2018 00:14
Also are either of you familiar with how azure uses deployment options for github repos? does it just update on repo change from github notifying them?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 14 2018 00:14
i've never used azure, sorry
knight2
@knight2
Mar 14 2018 00:14
Ah so for yourself you'd just push both?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 14 2018 00:15
yep
i make simple things, so i like a simple workflow
knight2
@knight2
Mar 14 2018 00:17
and as for azure vs heroku vs etc, doesn't really matter as long as it hosts the website, if your objective is just to have a live page for people to see for portfolio purposes?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 14 2018 00:17
i think a lot of it is personal preference
i use heroku because that's what was suggested when i got to that part of the FCC lessons
now they suggest something else
knight2
@knight2
Mar 14 2018 00:19
in beta they suggested glitch.me
and codepen for earlier parts
they really should have done a github + IDE section. Even though everyone likes their different IDEs

Hi ! I m doing my freecodecamp exercise and I can t succede with this one Link to External Pages with Anchor Elements. I create an a element where I added the anchor text.
<a href="http://freecatphotoapp.com">"catphotos"</a>
but ain t working !
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 14 2018 00:30
you don't need the " around catphotos
but you do need a space: cat photos
AmalNMY
@AmalNMY
Mar 14 2018 00:30
cool ! but still not work

Hi again ! https://www.freecodecamp.org/challenges/turn-an-image-into-a-link my cursor became the link clicking pointer..but something still wrong
<a href="#"><img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. ">cat photos</a>
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 14 2018 01:01
the </a> goes before cat photos
AmalNMY
@AmalNMY
Mar 14 2018 01:03
so cat photos wll not be part of element a or img?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 14 2018 01:03
correct
<a><img ...></a>
if i'm remembering that lesson correctly
AmalNMY
@AmalNMY
Mar 14 2018 01:05
ja, but is not working either if I leave cat photos or not

Mar 14 2018 01:11
what do the tests say when you run it?
AmalNMY
@AmalNMY
Mar 14 2018 01:15

You can make elements into links by nesting them within an a element.

Nest your image within an a element. Here's an example:

<a href="#"><img src="https://bit.ly/fcc-running-cats" alt="Three kittens running towards the camera. "></a>

Remember to use # as your a element's href property in order to turn it into a dead link.

Place the existing image element within an anchor element.

Once you've done this, hover over your image with your cursor. Your cursor's normal pointer should become the link clicking pointer. The photo is now a link.

Nest the existing img element within an a element.
Your a element should be a dead link with a href attribute set to #.
Make sure each of your a elements has a closing tag.

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 14 2018 01:16
perhaps you need to remove the spaces between your tags
<a><img ...></a> instead of <a> <img ...> </a>
AmalNMY
@AmalNMY
Mar 14 2018 01:17
tryed already
knight2
@knight2
Mar 14 2018 01:20
<a href="#"><img class="smaller-image thick-green-border" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "></a>
is the answer
"One for the guinness book!×
Go to my next challenge (ctrl + enter)
"
they want you to "Place the existing image element within an anchor element." so just wrap the existing img inside an a tag
AmalNMY
@AmalNMY
Mar 14 2018 01:22
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ! I just copy the src and alt ! it make sense ! Thanks !
knight2
@knight2
Mar 14 2018 01:22
Yeah you modified the image since i saw your code was missing their class text
Always read exactly what the challenge is asking you to do.
FCC will has specific tests, so in this case it fails you unless this <img class="smaller-image thick-green-border" src="https://bit.ly/fcc-relaxing-cat" alt="A cute orange cat lying on its back. "> exactly is wrapped inside an A tag
AmalNMY
@AmalNMY
Mar 14 2018 01:23
ya ! cause is pure logic ! <3
knight2
@knight2
Mar 14 2018 01:23
which is kind of fair, because they literally said Place the existing image element within an anchor element.
