Hi! I have a trouble in the page : "Understanding Case Sensitivity in Variables". I don´t know how to use camelCase in both declaration and assignment sections.
LydaTech
@lydatech
Mar 29 2018 05:13

@CallejaStreet_twitter In JavaScript all variables and function names are case sensitive. This means that capitalization matters.
MYVAR is not the same as MyVar nor myvar. It is possible to have multiple distinct variables with the same name but different casing. It is strongly recommended that for the sake of clarity, you do not use this language feature.

Best Practice

Write variable names in Javascript in camelCase. In camelCase, multi-word variable names have the first word in lowercase and the first letter of each subsequent word is capitalized.

thanks @lydatech, I did that, but I don´t know what is wrong here:
// Declarations
var studlyCapVar=10;
properCamelCase= "A String";
titleCaseOver= 9000;

// Assignments
studlyCapVar = 10;
properCamelCase = "A String";
tileCaseOver = 9000;

// Declarations
var studlyCapVar;
var properCamelCase;
var titleCaseOver;

// Assignments

properCamelCase = "A String";
tileCaseOver = 9000;

I don´t know what appens

Awesome, so should I learn redux completely before trying next projects? I made markdown and it felt quite easy
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 29 2018 19:46
i didn't learn redux until i started the full stack projects, but I feel like it would have made the recipe box infinitely easier had i learned it then
trying to keep track of all the props and callbacks being passed everywhere was a nightmare
and the Game of Life was even worse for that
however, it's possible to do them all without redux

If it is like christmas callback tree of doom, then I can understand. I have experienced that in Simon
For camper leaderboard, simple React is ok? I think by then I'll be a bit more familiar with redux then use it for recipe box
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80

really you can do them all without redux
redux was a pain in the butt to learn, but now i dislike making anything without it
Aditya

I'll hold off till I learn more redux then

An app that can distinguish between "hot-dog" and "not hot-dog"
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 29 2018 20:01
oh, maybe an app that settles once and for all the debate over whether or not a hot dog is a sandwich
That app will divide people, you should make an app that settles that pineapple on pizza is bad, I think you'll unify the whole world with it

@sjames1958gm lol yup, now I just need to create a break timer ;) I'm working on making a seperate file for it and having it on toggle with the radio buttons, so that the work radio button is the main timer, and the interface will switch to a break timer when clicking on the break radio button
I figured the interfaces will be the same except that the minute circle will be a light blue in contrast to the dark red

@Aniculaesei - hello again. </section> is not a valid HTML tag. at least not an opening tag. Change it to <section id="second"> and it looks somewhat improved.

Ken Haduch

Mar 29 2018 22:12
@Aniculaesei - the images respond to the CSS height and width settings, and you can also set them as (as you can in bootstrap) to be responsive to the size of the parent element that they are contained in.

studlyCapVar is defined and has a value of 10
properCamelCase is defined and has a value of "A String"
titleCaseOver is defined and has a value of 9000
studlyCapVar should use camelCase in both declaration and assignment sections.
properCamelCase should use camelCase in both declaration and assignment sections.
titleCaseOver should use camelCase in both declaration and assignment sections.

// Declarations
var StUdLyCapVaR;
var properCamelCase;
var TitleCaseOver;

// Assignments
StudlyCapVar = 10;
ProperCamelCase = "A String";
titleCaseOver = 9000;
can anybody help me with these problems : ?

studlyCapVar should use camelCase in both declaration and assignment sections.
properCamelCase should use camelCase in both declaration and assignment sections.
titleCaseOver should use camelCase in both declaration and assignment sections.

Hey, all.

I have a navigation bar with an unknown height (not set in CSS), and I'm wanting to grab the value of the height with javascript to use it in a computation, how would I do that. Is it done using getComputedStyle?

    <script>
        function setBannerHeight() {
            var navBar = document.getElementById("navbar");
            var navBarHeight = window.getComputedStyle(navBar);
            var newBannerHeight = window.innerHeight - navBarHeight;
            document.getElementById("banner").style.height = newBannerHeight;
        }
    </script>
That's my code so far

@kevinwr i've found 3 ways, but they're all giving the same result http://jsbin.com/?html,js,console,output
the good news is, they all seem to work equally well with unspecified heights
Kevin

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Mar 29 2018 23:50
there's supposed to be a difference in what those 3 do, but i'm not sure what it is
something about padding and whatnot
Kevin
@kevinwr
Mar 29 2018 23:52
hmmmm. Well thank you. That at least gives me a solution for now. To be honest, not sure if it's the "right" solution...but it works for right now.
I need to also figure out the getComputedStyle, but the documentation I've read doesn't quite make sense how to use it
or exactly how it works or what it does
