@martok22 @khaduch The onload runs after the whole HTML is rendered, so you can think of it as an async function which wont run before the page loads. So console.log(B); outside A always runs before the A executes therefore it returns undefined
Try this
window.onload = A;
var B;
function A(){
   B = document.getElementById('some_div');
   console.log(B, "inside A"); // <div>.. </div>
   return B;
 }
console.log(B, "Outside A"); //undefined

bitb.jpg
I almost completed the web app, and the company changed task instructions, so I have to implement it via command line, also I can use NodejS, but have never used it before
any suggestions?
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
May 28 2018 07:38
you need Node at this point. Since it can run on your machine and has various modules to help you with file system utilities
(aka fs )
I mean, I have no idea how you could make this with pure JS.
If I had to do it I'd probably just use C at this point :smile:

@IsaakNazar Node is just Javascript.

It's more you have to learn a bit of I/O F/S and other CS related stuff.
It's great actually... seems a fun project ^^

Bjorn van de Peut
@bjorno43
May 28 2018 07:45
@Marmiz I'm not entirely sure about that.. depends on how Bitbucket works. Technically it should be possible with pure Ajax I think
But again.. completely depends on Bitbuckit. All required information must be retrievable without the Same Origin Policy ruining your day, lol
Nazar
@IsaakNazar
May 28 2018 07:48
@Marmiz are node off. docs good place to start learning for beginners?

@IsaakNazar I have to be honest with you, many of the node stuff won't make much sense to you at first if you are used to work mainly with front-end tech.

But yeah, the official docs are your best shot... that and maybe a "how to write a CLI in node" google search

@Marmiz
May 28 2018 08:03

but at least the project have something to make it easy for you:
1- no I/O validation required
2- no extra inquiry (the usage is just command <repo>) so no extra step.
3- it has to output PR, nothing else. so no asking to the user " do you want X or Y"?
4 -it's not asked anywhere to be a globally available command :smile:
5-no fs stuff, only output!

Overall I think you can do it even without knowing much of node @IsaakNazar

@bjorno43 socket is so early 2018... cool kidz use pub/sub! :cry:
Bjorn van de Peut
@bjorno43
May 28 2018 08:08
@Marmiz Ye but that's not gonna be very helpfull with a chatsystem :P
subscribers kinda need to know who the publishers are there, ghehe
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz

Nah, sockets will do perfectly fine for a chatsystem.. unless you'll get thousends of users online at the same time. Then it might become an issue xD
But ye, Ratchet made my live a lot easier. I used to do all the socket programming myself from scratch, ghehe
Bjorn van de Peut

Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
May 28 2018 08:44
not all emoji are supported across all OS. that's why a plugin is handy.
in this instance i see the last one as the "guy with dollar eyes" emoji
elad ben aderet
@eladonline
May 28 2018 08:46
well i dont see him my question is when i receive it from the server how do i know what emoji this is ?
do i just get the text and past it ?

and then if the user OS does not support it he'll see all squares :)

@bjorno43 but i get this square as a unicode
Claudio Restifo

@eladonline the value is there :) it's just your machine that doesn't know what it is :)
Bjorn van de Peut

Claudio Restifo

is it in a read only editor

it's the editor FB uses across all its projects...
so i'd say it's not just read-only

a simple div ?
wouldnt it show me only native emojis ?

i dont think container has anything to do with rendering the emoj
Bjorn van de Peut
@bjorno43
May 28 2018 08:57
It will only show emojis supported by the browser. If you want custom emojis, it becomes a lot more complicated
elad ben aderet
@eladonline

i want it to show any emoji like facebook does
can you give me a direction or refs for sources ?
Bjorn van de Peut

unicode emojis will show just fine. Even this chat shows them while they're not added here

@thekholm80 - doing well, too - I've not been too active here lately, just got away from it (after the camperbot crash a couple weeks ago) and got busy with other stuff like yardwork, etc... just trying to spend some time on the Python course today, but going to get out for a walk, too

why is the else code block printing,after the contact is found?
var contacts = [
  "Monf: 909-23434", "Ipil: 434-4524232", "Pubu:980-24342424", "Bumo:087-930977"
];

function search(value) {
  for (let i = 0; i < contacts.length; i++) {
    let names = contacts[i].split(":"); // separate each item by ":"
    if (names[0] === value) {
      console.log(names[0] + "'\s number is " + names[1] + ".");
      break;
    } else {
      console.log("Contact " + value + " not found");
    }
  }
}

search("Bumo");

@Kingwindie
it goes to the else block for the first three iterations, and the if for the last one..

@Manish-Giri but i don't want it to print contact not found if the contact i searched for is in the array

then you can refactor your for loop
inside the for loop, get rid of the else block, just have the if block which uses break to exit out of the for loop if the name is found
Move this - console.log("Contact " + value + " not found"); to outside the for loop... that way, if the for loop finishes without executing break, you'll know that a name was not found, then you can print "contact ... not found"

hey I have been stuck trying to debug the timer app for a while now, if I input anything less that 1 minute inside it it starts going into the negatives
The first input is MINUTES then SECONDS for work time, the second input is minutes and seconds for the rest time

What is, in your opinion, the best text editor for web development, that can handle large projects?

@mehdiamlal i've used both Atom and VSCode, i like them both about equally
VSCode is a bit easier to get going "out-of-the-box"

@PierreProgramer @PierreProgramer use the value of the variables in your if statements. Like this:

if(!breakTime){
if(stop){...}
}

Also you have assigned the values to im,is,imR and isR on top then why are you assigning the same value again below?
