Hi, I am going through a course an am wondering why there isn’t a general boiler plate for passport.js. Isn’t the same thing over and over generally speaking
corychaise
@corychaise
Jun 28 2018 02:46
actually I just realized http://www.passportjs.org/docs/ pretty much has boilerplate code for the authentication
but thanks that will be helpful
Good lesson, read the docs lol

@mstellaluna Oh it can run multiple vm from terminal
I thought why not just use the terminal Can that be done ssh
mstellaluna

I'm trying to order 6 blocks in 2 columns so that at higher viewports the blocks appear such as
row 1 : block 1 block 2
row 2: block 3 block 4
row 3: block 5 block 6

and on smaller viewports there would be only 1 column with blocks in ascending order 1 - 6.
I'm using flexbox but not sure how to do this without editing the html, here is the codepen, https://codepen.io/Ryanwfile/pen/qKQdwY
any help is appreciated. Thank you.

const firstNav = document.getElementsByTagName("nav")[0]

window.onscroll = _ => window.scrollY ? rem("green") : add("green")

Jun 28 2018 04:51

@champolot even tho definition are always somewhat vague, JQuery is not a framework. Is a cross-browser JS library.

And yes, has some helpers with animation too.
worth mentioning that since CSS3 many animation can be made easily with pure CSS as well :)

@Ryanwfile you can change the flex-direction from row to column on smaller viewport
and then change the flex of the block to 1 to make them take all the space in the row
psyperl

@Marmiz I tried

 .row{

    flex-direction:column;
  }

how do I change the flex of the block to 1?

Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jun 28 2018 05:31
@Ryanwfile your row is displaying each block vertically for smaller screen. Isn't that what you wanted to achieve?
Ryan Williams
@Ryanwfile
Jun 28 2018 05:32
@Marmiz Yes, just need to get the blocks in correct order at both screen widths
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jun 28 2018 05:32
that's a matter of order than, not size :)
Ryan Williams
@Ryanwfile
Jun 28 2018 05:34
@Marmiz How would I do that without altering the row heights https://codepen.io/Ryanwfile/pen/qKQdwY
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jun 28 2018 05:35
@Ryanwfile what's messing your layout is the col, which I have no clue on why you want that
from my understeanding you want a row layoutwithbox` inside.
that's all you need
just switch from row to column in flex-direction for smaller screen and you are set :)
Ryan Williams
@Ryanwfile
Jun 28 2018 05:37
@Marmiz that seems to remove the 2 column layout, can you show me the code pelase
please
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jun 28 2018 05:37
but if you really want your col to be there they have to be 100% width :)
Ryan Williams
@Ryanwfile
Jun 28 2018 05:39
@Marmiz I just tried that it didn't seem to have an effect, what code are you using to get that result?
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jun 28 2018 05:41

@Ryanwfile I won't give you my code, otherwise you won't understand :smile:

But you want:

row --> flex // so far so good
 col --> // now what I have to do to this col to make it so my boxes behave
   box1 box2
you know that flex can be child of flex? :)
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jun 28 2018 05:49
anyway my best suggestion in draw on pen / paper how you want your layout, and then border what you think will be a row or ablock` element of that row :)
Ryan Williams
@Ryanwfile
Jun 28 2018 05:50
I know flex elements can have children that are flex yes I have tried having the columns be flex but can't seem to get column 1 and column 2 to order up in a column on small viewports
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jun 28 2018 05:50
at least, that's what I do
Ryan Williams
@Ryanwfile
Jun 28 2018 05:51
can you please show me what code you used, I really would like to see how this is done, not sure how seeing the code would make me understand it less at this point considering the exercises show you examples of code before you actually use them
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jun 28 2018 05:52

@Ryanwfile I modified the html tho, in order to have more rows to wrap the element as you described here:

row 1 : block 1 block 2
row 2: block 3 block 4
row 3: block 5 block 6

I did exactly that :)

Ryan Williams
@Ryanwfile
Jun 28 2018 05:53
@Marmiz Ok, how does that account for the different heights of the blocks?
I tried it without the columns and just made 3 rows like you said but that doesn't account for the heights of the blocks

I suggest you build it all in codepen, where u include bundle.js and if you wanna show that code to someone else, u can easily host it on github without it

I think it's called FreeCodeCamp
but in order to do dev projects for free you need to first know a lot of stuff about js apparently.
and then some

I need help here:
function almostIncreasingSequence(sequence) { var bool; for(var i = 0; i < sequence.length; i++) { sequence.splice(i,i); sequence.forEach((element,index) => { if((element - element[index+1]) === -1) { bool = true; } else { bool = false; } }); return bool; } }
This function is supposed to find if the sequence is almost increasing, it removes an element and see if it's increasing or not.
Like this challenge says:
However, it only passes 8 tests from 17. I analyzed the tests well but I just couldn't figure what's wrong.
I have changed between sequence.slice(0).splice(i,i) and sequence.splice(i,i) everytime and nothing works at all.
I even tried the method reduce instead of forEach but it still can't work.
I removed forEach and now It's just directly to the for loop and still, nothing can't work.
Aditya
@ezioda004
Jun 28 2018 14:39
@OGTechnoBoy They want you to make a solution of complexity O(n) (with 1 loop at max). You're using bunch of loops .splice() also adds complexity.
OGTechnoBoy
@OGTechnoBoy
Jun 28 2018 14:39
What the heck. splice doesn't even work. I removed it and nothing happened to the result.
@ezioda004 I don't understand.
So you don't want me to remove any item?

But I don't understand. What this has anything to do with the solution?
As I understand, the problem is not the running time, it's in the code. It doesn't show me any error about running time.
Aditya
@ezioda004
Jun 28 2018 14:43
Oh, I missed that but if I remember correctly they want O(n) solution so a caution in advance.
