@thekholm80 that's OCaml converted in transpiled in JS :smile:

const reverse = s => s.split('').reverse().join('');

let reverse = (s: string) : string => {
  let l: int = String.length(s);
  let x: string = String.init(l, i => s.[l - (i + 1)]);
  x;
};

Same thing but with actual type checking and memory allocation :)

hi guyz , why we need to create readme.md and gitignore file to create a website ?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 18 2018 03:37
@Marmiz so what's it good for?
@sumaya99 you don't have to create readme or gitignore - but both are pretty useful. the readme will contain information about the project and gitignore lists the files you don't want automatically uploaded to github
suvi
@sumaya99
Jul 18 2018 03:44
uh , okay just one thing i'm wonder about , what should we have to write in readme.md file!?
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 18 2018 03:47
@sumaya99 the readme files i've created for freeCodeCamp projects mostly just say "This is a project created for freeCodeCamp" and have a link to the live project

@thekholm80 writing something that feels like JS but it's actually a typed FP language :)
anything you can do with JS you can do it with it.

so if for whatever reason I try a reverse(14)I'd by actually yelled at by a compiler.
Trivial stuff but helps! :)

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 18 2018 03:53
so is it compiled, or transpiled then JIT like JS?
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Jul 18 2018 03:58

it's compiled and strictly type checked. Then gets transpiled in JS.
Looks like a hassle, but it's so fast that there are watchers in dev that compile as you save the edit much like webpack hot-reload (but even faster that that)

I'm pleasantly surprised.

@anandpotukchi You should review how .filter() or any of these array methods work. They are array methods and return a new array.

FilterNumbers.filter((number) =>  number / number == 1)

public class HelloWorld {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("Hello, World");

}
vs
function helloWorld() {

so much easier to explain what's going on

@Smootimus
Jul 18 2018 23:23
Absolutely
Yeah in the Java example alone, there's tons of topics in that ONE snippet that could be covered

LOL
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 18 2018 23:24

what is the u32 in these function definitions?
fn fizzbuzz_to(n: u32) {
    for n in 1..n + 1 {
        fizzbuzz(n);
    }
}
Functions are declared using the fn keyword. Its arguments are type annotated, just like variables, and, if the function returns a value, the return type must be specified after an arrow ->.
so i assume it's a type
Smootimus
@Smootimus
Jul 18 2018 23:37
Yeah it's usualy variable name: type
varNam: type
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Jul 18 2018 23:41

Kyle Holm

@Smootimus
Jul 18 2018 23:41
u32 is unsigned 32bit interger
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 18 2018 23:42
that was my best guess, but i think either i looked in the wrong place in their docs or they just assume you know it

Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 18 2018 23:54
it doesn't look as easy as flask, but i'll have to read a bit about it
my problem with django is sometimes you just want a slice of cheese, and django is a full 7 course meal and a restaurant too
Smootimus
@Smootimus
Jul 18 2018 23:55
Yeah I noticed that
Like I was saying, I just got it up and running on this laptop
And I'm kinda like :|

Jul 18 2018 23:55
which is cool if you need some of that, but my projects are tiny and simple
Smootimus
@Smootimus
Jul 18 2018 23:55
Yeah
I would rather have thrown it in a hosted environ but didn't know at the time. So I kinda put that on hold after I got it up
My professor pulled something that kinda made me mad this morning lol
So we're diving back into C++ and we're doing our first demo
She tells us now that unlike last quarter, this quarter she is requiring... Variable Dictionaries...
Which is a huge comment listing all the variables and their purpose, right before defining and initializing all the variables....
