Hi Everyone! Hope you're having a great evening. I'd love some help on my Pomodoro Clock project

  1. BreakTime problem with my code. Not sure how to make it count down correctly.
  2. Stop button. I cannot get it to stop when I press the button.
    Request suggestions and/or links to help me fix the issues.
    Thank you!

hey guys
I'm having a big issue that I have been trying to solve for some time now but I can not find any info on stack overflow or google
this is my code:
input[type=text]:focus{
    box-shadow:0 0 3px grey;
    }

input[type=text]:hover{
    box-shadow:0 0 3px grey;
    }
for some reason only the first psseudo-selector works
whichever is typed first
is there a way to make both of them work

Jul 20 2018 01:53

@Lorrie01 You have breakTime*=60; in the callback function (breakTimer) so you're multiplying breakTime with 60 every second and subtracting it by 1.
It seems to be resolved if you move breakTime*=60; out of that function.
So something like this

breakTime*=60;
var startBreak = setInterval(breakTimer, 1000);

For Stop button, I couldnt find the event listener for it.

Hi guys, I've only hosted simple sites where I put basically my html, sass/ css, and js files in the "public" folder of a web hosting service and the site goes online. Is it the same if I use nodejs or reactjs? Instead of putting those files will it work if I put the entire app folder inside the public folder or how does it work?
I know it may seem obvious to those that are used to it but right now I'm unsure how it works as usually I need to run "npm start" or something to get the site going with reactjs / nodejs apps whereas normally I don't. If i throw the folder containing my react / nodejs site into the public folder of the hosting nothing is doing the "npm start".
Any tips on this?

@darkphotonKN I started learning React a few weeks ago. Here's were I started https://reactjs.org/docs/getting-started.html
alpox
@alpox
Jul 20 2018 10:00

@darkphotonKN react basically compiles to javascript and some assets. During development, those files do not appear because they are kept in cache/temp for hot swapping.
When you want to deploy, you run a build which puts everything compiled into a folder specified in webpack.

You can then basically drop whatever is in that folder into your hosting service as usual

Kranti Nebhwani
@darkphotonKN
Jul 20 2018 10:01
@alpox ahh ok thanks a lot that was exactly what i was looking for. So everything is generated from the production build or whatever its called, I think i saw it mentioned somewhere in the tutorial. But basically before making it into that build it's not deployable

Kranti Nebhwani
@darkphotonKN
Jul 20 2018 10:03
@alpox do you remember what its like once it makes that production build folder? Is it a folder with a bunch of files that are just compiled versions of my code? i could just try it yes but im outside on my ipad and kinda excited lol i wanna know.
alpox
@alpox
Jul 20 2018 10:03
@diomed Math is just an object on which all math calculations are defined.
When you divide, you get a new number.
@darkphotonKN You basically get a normal layout of your page with compiled files.
You have an index.html with app.bundle.js (or similar name) added as script and that js file is the compiled javascript from your app. You also have .css files if you used css and imported it into your app.
And ofc. also pictures which you imported to your app - are put into that folder

currently the config is in the js instead of the webpack.config file. my preference would be to move it to the config file. i thought if someone had an example of importing an svg into a react app with the config in the config file, i'd appreciate seeing how it's done, since i'm having trouble doing it without moving the config to my import statement.

var duplicates = array.reduce(function(accumulator, currentValue, curIndex) {

@LazarMadzic in this instance you can simultaneously create and fill an array, like if i wanted an array with length 5 filled with zeros, i could say const myArray = Array(5).fill(0);
saves you a loop

Anchor elements can also be used to create internal links to jump to different sections within a webpage.

To create an internal link, you assign a link's href attribute to a hash symbol # plus the value of the id attribute for the element that you want to internally link to, usually further down the page. You then need to add the same id attribute to the element you are linking to. An id is an attribute that uniquely describes an element.

Below is an example of an internal anchor link and its target element:

<a href="#contacts-header">Contacts</a>
...

<h2 id="contacts-header">Contacts</h2>
When users click the Contacts link, they'll be taken to the section of the webpage with the Contacts header element.

Change your external link to an internal link by changing the href attribute to "#footer" and the text from "cat photos" to "Jump to Bottom".

Remove the target="_blank" attribute from the anchor tag since this causes the linked document to open in a new window tab.

Then add an id attribute with a value of "footer" to the <footer> element at the bottom of the page.

What does "elements are self-closing" mean
Kyle Holm
@thekholm80
Jul 20 2018 23:07
many elements require an opening <p> and closing </p> tag. some are "self-closing", so they don't require the closing tag, like <input type='text'>
