i am using fetch(url).then to get info. Any help would be highly appreciated

@pragyes31 Just in case - heres an example https://wind-bow.glitch.me/twitch-api/users/freecodecamp, you could use string concatenation ie + or use string interpolation with string templates.

@ezioda004 thanks buddy. It really helps when someone share an example snippet. Let me try this. Will bug you if in doubt

has anyone ever used the dropdowns from bootstrap? can you have a quick look at the docs - https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.1/components/dropdowns/, I don't know how the button you click is "paired up" with the dropdown-menu itself. There's a data-toggle attribute on the buttons which is not normally there in html so I'm guessing it's that, but I don't see where this is rerferenced on the drop down itself so when I change the data-toggle attribute I don't know what to change on the drop down to have them "linked".

This is problematic when using 2 or more drop downs - the buttons all refer to the first drop down list and you can't have separate ones.

@darkphotonKN have you checked the js source code. It's probably used ad selector to build the dropdown functionality along with Popper.js

@darkphotonKN
Nov 26 2018 06:07
@Marmiz i haven't because I assumed with something like bootstrap they don't expect you to be only able to use one drop down correct, so there much be a toggle reference between the button and the dropdown. i.e. if I write up two bootstrap dropdowns both buttons will use the first drop down as they are the same thing. Im sure from this example position bootstrap doesnt expect users to need to check js source code to make use of a 2nd drop down aye? It seems to not mention anything in the docs though.. im looking at the js code now
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Nov 26 2018 06:08
what?
What are you trying yo .build?
Kranti Nebhwani
@darkphotonKN
Nov 26 2018 06:08
@Marmiz when you write two drop downs in the fashion of bootstrap, following it's example, currently both those buttons toggle the first drop down list
i just dont think they exepect you to need to check the js source to be able to toggle the 2nd drop down independently
i thought im missing something silly that i can't seem to figure out cuz ive been staring at the drop down code for ages
each drop down button should be able to toggle individual drop down lists
<div class="dropdown">
  <button class="btn btn-secondary dropdown-toggle" type="button" id="dropdownMenuButton" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">
    Dropdown button
  </button>
  <div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="dropdownMenuButton">
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Action</a>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another action</a>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>
  </div>
</div>
not sure if you looked the link i provided but thats the drop down example
@Marmiz so in this case you get a button and the drop down content
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Nov 26 2018 06:11
yes, and they have an example with many buttons, each built like that with each its own dropdown, and seems working
Kranti Nebhwani
@darkphotonKN
Nov 26 2018 06:11
ok but if you use another, they both (the buttons) toggle the FIRST drop down
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Nov 26 2018 06:12
unless you are trying to build a nested dropdown. But that's a totally different story
Kranti Nebhwani
@darkphotonKN
Nov 26 2018 06:13
so what would you change to be able to have a second drop down button only reference it's dropdown list on click?
i expected to just change a class or something straight forward but it seems to be if i change anything it breaks
@Marmiz is what im saying really that confusing xd its just the dropdown button opens it's own dropdown list, but when there are two dropdowns they seem to not toggle their own but the first one because they are named exactly the same
but i can;'t figure out what to "rename" so they toggle their own thing
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Nov 26 2018 06:16
@darkphotonKN you mean a dropdown inside a dropdown menu?
Kranti Nebhwani
@darkphotonKN
Nov 26 2018 06:16
@Marmiz lol no man just simply the example i pasted
when you click the button a drop down appears correct?
for some reason if i use another of those examples like the one i pasted, when i click the second one the FIRST drop down's contents appears
Claudio Restifo
@Marmiz
Nov 26 2018 06:18
@darkphotonKN I'll throw an example when I have some spare time
Kranti Nebhwani
@darkphotonKN
Nov 26 2018 06:18
@Marmiz ok, i dont know if you understand my problem though xD i just simply cannot use two bootstrap drop downs on the same html page. Only if ther e is one by itself it works

can you make an actual working payroll system using only html/css/js??
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 26 2018 23:23
@kinopotato I would think you would need a backend with a database.
kinopotato
@kinopotato
Nov 26 2018 23:29
@JLuboff would it be possible to do it locally and "update" an excel sheet? I want to do it for my dad's business, so even an offline thing would be fine.
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 26 2018 23:31
You would still need a backend to work with the filesystem. Which could be NodeJS
kinopotato
@kinopotato
Nov 26 2018 23:32
@JLuboff sigh :| , alright dude, thanks for the info! I guess I'll have to study node now
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 26 2018 23:33
Ya..sorry. As far as I'm aware, front end JS has no ability to work with filesystems..

I'm afraid of being stuck in a tutorial limbo. I now know html/css/js but as much as I really love, for some odd reason, turning the font color of a button from red to green acting like a manual Christmas light per each click -- I can only make pretty things with frontend. (duh) so now I need to do node.js and that will be another month or two
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 26 2018 23:42
If you know PHP...PHP can also do it.. :shrug:
kinopotato
@kinopotato
Nov 26 2018 23:43
I don't mind learning PHP, in fact it's in my list because I'm thinking of using WP. The problem is nodeJS might be easier for me to pickup since I already know JS
actually, can I do this with wordpress? they might have a plugin or something?
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 26 2018 23:43
I agree. I would highly recomend Node over PHP..

A week probably is enough time to build something rough but definitely not enough to understand it properly
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 26 2018 23:49
Honestly...if you're still a beginner..I would say no, it wouldn't be enough time to learn everything you need. Can you hack something together that works based on googling a bunch of stuff? Sure..but is it going to be built properly...doubtful (not trying to be a jerk here)

MySQL is a Relational Database Management System, yes. Is it the right database type to use? Depends but it can definitely be used for something like that
kinopotato
@kinopotato
Nov 26 2018 23:52
@JLuboff I'd use a notepad right now if I can :| well as you live you learn. I'll just start some other project that's useful for us while learning enough backend and some database.
btw, html/css/js files (local) are still static right? I can't have them manipulate a notepad. just asking to be really sure
there you go ;)
