Hi peeps! I am having a few issues with Heroku :( I am deploying a Node application - a web scraper

Here are the logs: https://dpaste.org/3AkR

Can anyone ascertain the issue? The build process was fine and the node app starts running, but then for some reason heroku returns a 503 error.
I am guessing there is some issue with the heroku.yml file?

Heroku deploys automatically from the master branch of this repo: https://github.com/RS357/retail-url-scraper

@alpox
@RS357 Does the app work locally?
Riz Syed
@rizsyed1
@alpox yes it does
alpox
@alpox
Seems weird to me to run it on host 0.0.0.0

@rizsyed1
I was told that was protocol

@rizsyed1

hi all, would you say this is a 'trivial' app, as opposed to one that might persuade a hiring manager that I'd be a good person for a junior dev role?

https://github.com/RS357/retail-url-scraper <- code

https://retail-url-scraper.herokuapp.com/site-urls/dell.com <- deployed app ( select a site by using following URL format - insert hostname without 'www': https://retail-url-scraper.herokuapp.com/site-urls/[hostname])

i am facing this issue
while upload an file in heroku
alpox
@alpox
@chintan992 sounds like a serverside problem. I dont think someone can help without the actual code.
Apart from that: Heroku, as far as I know, does not have persistent storage in their dynos so you would have to use an additional, external storage service if you dont want to lose your uploads

what kind of basics should I cover before I start my backend cir?
this is my first step but I know nothing about installing .json files
my project
creating branch and all that was easy in the guideline on github as shown in the challenge. However, nowhere did it show how to installing packages
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
@95mainer You use npm i packageName
95mainer
@95mainer
Yeah but I have no idea how to install a package or how to do that in github
So I feel like I'm diving in too complex subject without basics covered first.
maybe I should be doing API and microservice first? That looks like where the package installment lessons are at
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
You don't install packages in github. Github is just a code repository
But yes, I would say work on the API/microservices first
95mainer
@95mainer
Yeah sounds about right

Google Map Perimeter Drawing
Hi, how can I create a map that behaves like redfin or zillow? on web app https://www.redfin.com/city/3879/OH/Cincinnati/filter/include=forsale+mlsfsbo+construction .....it draws a line around the city when the user searches the city

https://www.zillow.com/homes/Los-Angeles,-CA_rb/

please advise

Kris Baillargeon
@krisb1220
@realariharrison_twitter Google maps has a feature in it's API that allows you to draw on it. Based on the thickness of the lines, it looks like Redfin uses that feature. They just programmatically draw the borders.
I'm not sure how they do it, I don't know anything about the Maps API, lol. That's just a guess based on a quick Google search.

I am trying very simple post request in express, mongoose
const router = require('express').Router();
const User = require('../model/User')
 router.post('/register',async (req,res)=>{
    console.log("entered")
   const user = new User ({
       name:req.body.name,
       email:req.body.email,
       password:req.body.password
   })
    try{
        console.log("try")
        const savedUser = await user.save();
       console.log("got",savedUser)
       res.send(savedUser)

    }catch(err){
        res.status(400).send(err)
    }
})

router.post(
    '/new', function (req, res) {
        res.send('POST request to the auth homepage')
})

router.post(
    '/', function (req, res) {
        res.send('POST request to the auth homepage')
})

module.exports = router;
/new route works, / route works
/register doesnt work, the postman just stuck
cancelled or called out
this code particularly
try{
        console.log("try")
        const savedUser = await user.save();
       console.log("got",savedUser)
       res.send(savedUser)
i can see try in my console
after that nothing happens in console
proquibas
@proquibas
try:
user.save()
.then(result => {
console.log(result);
res.send(result);
}).catch(err => {
console.log(err);
res.status(400).send(err);
});
Ankur sharma
@ankur1163
@proquibas
this is the code now
     password:req.body.password
   })
    try{
        user.save()
        .then(result=>{
            console.log(result);
            res.send(result)
        }).catch(err=>{
            console.log(err);
            res.status(400).send(err)
        })
but its still stuck
proquibas
@proquibas
your req.body has the user data you are trying to send in the post method? are you connected to mongodb?
Ankur sharma
@ankur1163
yes i think so
this is my environemtn variable
