people can someone help me in my simon, i want that when the ai reads the color and makes the sound, to also change the opacity of the background, exactly as when you click a color

http://codepen.io/tuliodnw/pen/ZOQjRr?editors=0011
also when doing the sequence, if im too fast, some colors dont make a sound, how can i make it so that doesnt happen,

Jaren Escueta
@jarenescueta731
Jun 11 2016 00:23
@tuliodnw you can add a jQuery .click() event and add a css opacity property to the element. experiment with .on("click", ...) and .off("click", ...). i haven't reached this one myself yet

I'm having trouble determining why I have an unexpected identifier error, along with the errors: function closure expressions' is only available in Mozilla JavaScript extensions (use moz option) and expected an assignment or function call and instead saw an expression. seems like when it finishes it stays looking like it is pressed. Which would probably mean that you are not putting it in an up looking state before moving to the next color (or the same color)

Hi, this is what I have for the mutations algorithm. Am I on the right track?
//mutations attempt
function mutation(arr) {
  var splitArr = [];
  for (var i = 0; i < arr.length; i++){
    splitArr.push(arr[i].toLowerCase().split(""));
  }
  console.log(splitArr);

var jIter = 0;
//named so because in the next for loop j will be the iterant because i has already been used. j will be iterated and results will go into the variable to be used in a conditional statement
for (var j = 0; j > arr[1].length; j++){
    if (splitArr[1].indexOf(splitArr[0]) >= 0){
        jIter = jIter + 1;
        console.log(jIter);
    }

  }

  if (jIter >= arr) {
    return true;
  } else {
    return false;
  }
}

mutation(["Mary", "Army"]);

@matthew3454 - looks like you are missing the curly braces to enclose the body of the function for your ip-api getJSON call.

@matthew3454 - maybe a couple things- - the initial add of the braces made the error indicator go away, but there was also a problem with the closing paren for the $.getJSON call - I put this code in place:

  $.getJSON("http://ip-api.com/json",
    function(data2) {
      lat = data2.lat;
      long = data2.lon;
      console.log(long);
    });

I hope that helps?

@matthew3454 - also noticed a typo in 'backgroun-image', I think?
Still more, t he closing brace and paren for the ready function blocks out the var long and var lat from being able to access it in the var api = code... just a couple more things, after I went back and looked at the console.

Hey y'all, I'm getting started on my random quote generator. I wanted to start by using the code from one of free code camp's challenges just to see how it works. I tried to just get the raw output from the cat photo api to show up as my quote to start, but I can't even get that to work for some reason. A little help? https://codepen.io/queennectarine/pen/wWMrVv
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Jun 11 2016 02:37

@queennectarine - helllo there - it looks like you are running into a cross-origin request problem, in other words, the site is not set up to allow cross-origin requests. You can solve part of the problem by using JSONP - just change your URL to this:

var url = "https://www.freecodecamp.com/json/cats.json?callback=?";

That seems to solve the cross-origin problem and you will get a return. It still isn't displaying in the browser - I'm going to poke at that next.

Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Jun 11 2016 02:49
@queennectarine - I'm not sure - it just might be set up to handle JSONP requests properly - it looks like a return is being made, but it is not triggering the callback function? I'm not sure how to proceed with that - perhaps trying a different site? I changed the url to a different site and using JSONP, it returned a usable data object and triggered the callback.

The Agile Manifesto

For Agile Software Development

Agile development was written in 2001 by a group of 17 software experts that included the creators of Scrum Extreme Programming (XP), Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), and Crystal; a representative of feature-driven development; and several other thought leaders in the software industry. The Agile Manifesto established a common set of overarching values and principles for all of the individual agile methodologies at the time. This is that manifesto.

@queennectarine - this is something that I picked up a while ago by googling and kept a note on it - there is a site that you can use to handle these types of transfers, a proxy site that handles jsonp transfers (I don't know the technical details, sorry that I cannot explain it!) I just got it working with the cats.json site that you were trying to use - this is the URL -

var url = "https://jsonp.afeld.me/?callback=?&url=https://www.freecodecamp.com/json/cats.json";

using that, it now dumps the raw JSON data into your browser panel of CodePen.

you can substitute other URLs into that request in place of the freecodecamp.com one that you are using for an example.

Hi guys im new here and i'm on intermediate front-end development project, working on "Build a Random Quote Machine";

i created a quotes.json file, not really sure if it's going to work but this are the content on it

var quotes = [
{
quote:"Just a sample string",
author:"Mark"
},
{
quote:"Welcome to the javascript Programming",
author:"john"
},
{
quote:"Free Code Camp",
author:"Paolo"
}
];

just a temporary quote for testing and i'm not really sure how am i going to get them but on my script i just copied the codes on the previous exercise and tweek it, here's my code

$(document).ready(function(){
$("#quote-control.btn").on("click",function(){
$.getJSON("/json/quotes/quotes.json", function(json) {

  var quoteLayout = ""; //html structure container
  json.forEach(function(val){
    var keys = Object.keys(val);
    quoteLayout +='<blockquote class="custom-quote">';
    keys.forEach(function(key){
      quoteLayout +='<h1 class="custom-quote">'+key+'</h1>';
      quoteLayout +='<footer class="text-center text-yellow">'+key[val]+'</footer>';
    });

    quoteLayout +='<blockquote class="custom-quote">';
  });

  $("quote-message-container").html(JSON.stringify(json));
});

});
})

it's not working, at the moment i can't figure out how to output

@quocanh261997 i think its because your trying to use the $.getjson method , when that url doesn't take json, but a normal get ajax request
so change it to $.ajax({
dataType: "json",
url: url,
data: data,
success: success
});

@dredelion , check if the collection id hasownproperty (prop) when prop=tracks; Because in the second condition you need to push the value to the array tracks. And object #5439 doesn't have tracks array. So you need to create the empty array and then push the value for those that doesn't have tracks
And you have problems in the if , else if , too

Hi everyone.... I was hoping to ask for help regarding the wikipedia viewer project.

I can get the json from wikipedia with jquery

I can build the url or wikipedia api request and plug it into my var wikiSearch
using

$.getJSON(wikiSearch, function(json){});

but I can't seem to parse the result? firefox sends this error message

SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected end of data at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data

so what is the difference between json and jsonP? Am I suppose to convert the response to jsonP?

Is jquery the problem?

Do I have to make a manual AJAX request using xhttp and then manually convert the text response?

Basically after getting the json

After plugging in

console.log(json);

I don't get anything. I can't access the json childs either with json[0][0]
or even with json.continue.plcontinue etc.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

So Vik remember never to use spaces in id's. And only used spaces in classes when you want to seperate one (or more) class names.

This probably isnt the best solution, but you need to add a new div outside of .image-container. Then give it a name such as class="inline-center";
.inline-center {

text-align:center;

This will make the inline-block go central to the page. Oh, and remove the left and right margin from .image.container.

@andreas2249 no problem, divs work like text when displayed as inline-block. if you want to align it to center you should wrap them with another and center in wrap

You shouldn't need an API for your portfolio page. Basically an API is how you get data from another site or server. For your portfolio page, you will have to create your own 'content' or info about yourself.

for the random quote machine project, is it intended that you host your quotes somewhere, set-up a JSON API, and then somehow call it with jQuery from codepen?
Chase
@Belax8
Jun 11 2016 22:17
@marcvesper I have seen people make it two ways. 1-Make an array of quotes and randomly select a quote from your own list. 2-Find a service that provides an API to quotes. So I think you can do it however you want. They aren't very specific in the rules, so I think anything goes.

@karolinaKluz - I don't think that you can control what the users type, you would have to filter it when you are handling the input - for example, in a calculator (I'm guessing here) you would have to check the most recent character entered, and if it was a special character like you are asking about, just toss the next incoming character.
although maybe you were not asking that question for yourself, but for the calculator posted above (which I haven't looked at yet.) Anyway...

@twoBrokenThumbs - oh, great! I wonder if that's a function of how browsers handle broken HTML? They seem to usually do a fairly good job of getting what you mean, anyway... but I suppose that has its limits.

@khaduch Yeah, I think the fact that is worked one way but not the other was what confused me the most. Broken is broken. But if it sometimes works then that's puzzling.

thanks @Belax8 , still not sure how one is supposed to learn all of the classes. I come from a networking background and I am still confused how one is supposed to know all of the possible classes with bootstrap without some form of 'cheatsheet'

@Ethanlchandler THIS. This is exactly where I am at. Overall I understand html and css. But learning Bootstrap is tough because everything I want to do is a search "do this in bootstrap" or me simply opening bootstrap up in notepad++ and scrolling through to discover stuff. It would be so much easier with a cheatsheet.

I hope to soon be able to memorize the big ones but I would love a quick search option that isnt google! haha @twoBrokenThumbs
as @Belax8 mentioned the best resource i have found is ctrl+f & http://getbootstrap.com/css/
I do enjoy asking real people. I have tried codecademy but end up going to github to look at the answer which is no real help. just cheating.
