Hello ... I'm having some fun with trying to get ajax going with jsonp. Finally tracked down error to this : [blocked] The page at https://s.codepen.io/boomerang/35d5b170772aee0615f9bb706c5249211466811913761/index.html was not allowed to run insecure content from http://quotes.stormconsultancy.co.uk/random.json?true=jQuery224017017714329995215_1466811914948&_=1466811914949.

@needsMoreCoffee that's what I did already, I'm trying to use bootstrap classes and not custom css
I used Bootstrap container and row-fluid and nested custom css for this
But I think the point is not to use custom css
so that's what I am trying to do

@KoniKodes
Jun 25 2016 00:33
@96street I think that first you need to make sure your input is closed, and perhaps add an id to the input type. Close your img with /> and in css, you have two different margin calls (margin:0 auto) and (margin-top) which may confuse it.

Heather Kusmierz

Jun 25 2016 00:44
@Vodkade ask away, we'll try to help
@Vodkade generally if you have HTML tag like <div id="myDiv">... then your CSS would access it like this:
#myDiv {
    position: relative;
    // etc.
}

@Vodkade Okay, so the form element has an ID of "cat-photo-form", which you can access in your <style> tags similarly to accessing a class. Try:

// other code

There's no one to take away points from you, they want you to complete the user stories, that's it. If you do it in the best way possible (which will help you later) that's a bonus as well.

Heather Kusmierz
@HKuz
Jun 25 2016 01:09
@faisal1337 that's a positioning thing with Bootstrap - when you use .navbar-fixed-top (or .navbar-fixed-bottom) it changes the CSS positioning to fixed, and the other elements around it don't 'realize' it's there. To get around it, in your CSS, add a margin-top of say, 50px to the header element. (Play with that margin number - see what looks good)

@gpressman

Jun 25 2016 01:15
@faisal1337 You're pegging the navbar to the top of whatever screen it will show on at the moment, so not sure there's any other space to push it into. You don't have to use pixels - I think rem is another (more mobile friendly) unit - maybe margin-top: 8rem; can work
Gabe Pressman
@gpressman
Jun 25 2016 01:16
rems are dynamic

Alright
Heather Kusmierz
@HKuz
Jun 25 2016 01:19
@faisal1337 it's more for font sizes, but can be used for spacing. It's a relative unit off (I think) the font size of the root element. It scales and is good for mobile since it's linked to an element, vs an absolute size, like pixels.

@gpressman

Jun 25 2016 01:27
@gpressman Good question - I vaguely recall that bootstrap has a default margin on the left which may be causing it to slightly push your stuff right of center. Okay, glad you fixed it
Gabe Pressman
@gpressman
Jun 25 2016 01:28
The thing is
At work centering things has been killing me too

then I come on today and realize all these aren't even centered..
I think you're right

Heather Kusmierz
@HKuz
Jun 25 2016 01:36
@gpressman I've got two of the data vis projects left before I move on to backend. D3 is pretty dense material, and I'm trying to catch up learning es6 (new JavaScript features) and combining it with React. I feel like I'm constantly drinking from a firehose, but looking back at the front end work, I've come a long way.
Gabe Pressman
@gpressman
Jun 25 2016 01:36
where did you learn react and d3?
I haven't found any react resources I like yet
Heather Kusmierz
@HKuz
Jun 25 2016 01:38
@gpressman actually the tutorials on the React website are pretty helpful explaining how to make components, where to hold 'state', and pull it together. There's a good youtube video I saw recommended in the forum (wish I remembered who posted to give credits) here that introduces D3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jvoTV54nXw
and this free web book has helped. http://chimera.labs.oreilly.com/books/1230000000345/pr01.html

Jun 25 2016 03:26
@mburakbozbey - align="center" is obsolete, for one thing. Also, you should not have style information in your HTML panel on Codepen. Also improperly closed <h1> tag, this: <img align="center" class="smaller-image width="100" height="100" has errors with quotation marks being imbalanced. Basically the HTML validator is reporting many, many errors in your HTML code. Cleaning that up might be a good place to start.

I think the maps loading thing has to do with needing a developer API key. Which I hear isn't the best thing to put on a code pen (for who knows who to use for whatever their purposes may be).
OK. That overlay feature would be kind of cool for a weather map.
I'm getting the vision.

@oxide94Git first, you need to set your Tweet button id to "Tweet." In JS, this is what I changed:
$("#tweet").on("click" ,function(){
window.open(quot);
});
in html, I added the id of the tweet button
<a type="button" class="btn btn-info" id="twitter-link" href="#"><i class="fa fa-twitter" aria-hidden="true"></i></i>Tweet!</a>
and I changed the href to #, because I only used the button to open the page that I wanted

@burgundy93 You have a really great looking page. It's hard to figure out what is what. Don't have a class and an id with the same name (intro). The logo appears to be inside and linked with the background pic - so when you move one you move the other
@burgundy93 i would have a section - give that section and id and through that id give it background img - then inside that section you can position your logo -

@faisal1337 sorry, went to bed - in case you didn't get a response, the grid is always 12 columns, no matter what the device. Those 12 columns are spaced differently depending on the device the user is using (a mobile has fewer pixels per column width vs a huge desktop monitor). When you say <div class='col-md-4 col-xs-3'>, you're telling bootstrap that for the medium sized screen (from 992px to 1200px breakpoints) should display that column as 4/12 of the grid (so you'd have 3 total columns assuming you have other divs in your row with the same sizing classes) and that for xs sized screens at the 768px or less breakpoint it should display as 3/12 of the grid, so your layout would have a total of 4 columns. You actually have it backwards - typically you want the large breakpoints to show more columns and the small, mobile-device breakpoints to show less (they stack so none are too narrow). For exampe, if you have 6 divs with content, you can do something like <div class="col-lg-2 col-md-3 col-sm-4 col-xs-6"> on each div and you'd get 6 columns total at the large screen, then 4 columns at medium, then 3 at small, and 2 at the xs. Hope that clarifies it.

Please review my local weather app, took me longer than expected and even then i am not quite sure it is completely finished yet. I am facing a weird issue with the flexbox property while trying to center my weather container exaclty in the center of the page, it centers the container alright but not in the middle of page but remains at the top and i have to give some margin to set it in the middle of the page, i am not facing the issue in the editor i am using, it works perfectly fine there but not in codepen, if anyone can solve it please i will appreciate it a lot-Thanks.

No the div which holds the weather data is already there when the dom loads, just the weather_container isn't centered exactly in the middle of the page, that too only in codepen.

I have most of this working correctly.. However when you input a series such as 6-3= (you will get 3). When I begin to calculate a second series it tags the next number on to the displayed answer. Any suggestions on how to correct that? I am thinking an if statement, but not sure that is right.

Hey guys, I am working on the porodomo clock project, and finding an issue to deal with setInterval within setInterval, the code doesn't work if I added them. If you are available, can you take a look at it? comments on js 81-101 should work fine, my link's here: http://codepen.io/mania7539/pen/EyZbqN

@mania7539 - Hello Ray - I think that you are doing something that is way more complex than you need to? I see that you're using the Date object. That must make it more complex? I think that it is a lot simpler to just have a count that contains the number of seconds that your current "phase" is supposed to take - 25 * 60 for the session, for example, or 5 * 60 for the break period, and just use the setInterval to count down each second as it ticks away, then when you get to the end of the current phase, switch from "session" to "break" or vice-versa. If you have it close to working, perhaps you don't want to make such a change, but I think it is a simpler approach?

@damianpcollier - if you are using CodePen, go to the CSS tab, into an "Add External CSS" textbox, and type "bootstrap-social", it will pop up a quick-add link. It ends up with this link: https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/bootstrap-social/5.0.0/bootstrap-social.min.css at this point in time.

OK i've been pondering this issue for a day now and wrote some pseudocode for the game play of my simon. Here's what I wrote for pseudocode which may not be fully comprehensive but looks like a decent start. Waiting for user input seems like a challenge and I'm guessing i need to use some asychronous callback, but I'm not sure exactly how to do that?

@AdventureBear i think you're on the right track. I stored the random number in an array and then played the sound and lit up the button based on the array's order
then it went to the player turn function that would wait for the input of the player
by writing it as a function, it would wait for player input

@AdventureBear You're getting there. It can get pretty complex when it comes to the sequencing part. If you don't want it to get messy and unreadable, I would break every step of the sequencer into parts. Build, show one, check if sequence has one more, if so, then fire next, if not, then stop sequencer and listen for click from player. A good way to keep the player from messing up the sequence is to disable the buttons during playback, then enable them after the sequence starts.
Dylan
@dhcodes
Jun 25 2016 21:52
@AdventureBear yes I believe so, I didn't count misses though as strict mode restarts the game, and non-strict means the sequence replays each time no matter how many times the user gets it wrong

@Biazus Here's a way to go about it. I put the results call into a private function so that i could setup a timeout if results haven't been shown yet. The global var at the top 'loaded' will be false from page load and once they get the first results, will be set to true. This will then start the fadeout, fadein sequence for each results query.

I'm just taking this one line of my pseudocode at a time, but do I need to use a delay timer taking into account the length of each mp3 file? I can play the first sound of my random sequence, and the console output shows me it's looping through the current step, but then I get an error about play() being interrupted. I assume it's because the sound hasn't finished playing yet. http://codepen.io/AdventureBear/pen/BzLgVb?editors=0010
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns

@AdventureBear The for loop will iterate over all the sounds in less than a millisecond, so it will throw an error. You need to delay the playback of each sound.

@jdtdesigns Should I simply cut them off?
JD Tadlock

Jun 25 2016 23:47
@Y-Taras as you push each number to your output (array for example), you can test the length of the output and if it is larger than say 16 digits, just use a return in the getInput function you are using.
That is assuming you're firing a function on click that places the input of the user onto the screen.
@Y-Taras You can see how I return once the limit is reached. http://codepen.io/jdtadlock/pen/ONpzgg

So I just started really digging into HTML and CSS. I’ve built like 3 sites, 2 of which are responsive. They all are “clones” of other sites. However, when I was making these sites, I had a really hard time getting the height and width of certain containers exactly the same. I feel like it may be my use of padding and margins and I’m just using them incorrectly
Would anyone be willing to take a look at these projects and give some feedback?
