Not sure why something so simple is giving me issues... but, it claims that my CSS element (h2) is not defined as being blue.

<style>
h2 {color: blue;}
</style>

@Laurensly I think you would have to post the page up because the css is right - there may be another conflicting factor

i finished my local weather project a while ago... today i was working on some minor tweaks then i noticed IP Geolocation isnt working as backup geolocation anymore... https://codepen.io/bomholt/full/zqgoOe normally it has HTML Geolocation and if that isnt available or blocked it uses IP Geolocation. why did it stopped working? looks like it doesnt even get any data

normally like... 2 weeks ago it would return a location via ip if you blocked that request
some people have their browser setup to not even ask so its important to have a backup geolocation when using html geolocation
but somehow it just stopped working without changing any JS code and i am trying to fix this for hours now
super mysterious

i have a really big problem with my local weather i use HTML geolocation and IP geolocation as backup... HTML geo only works with HTTPS... i can live with that but i figured out that IP geo isnt working anymore. it still works with HTTP. so is there a way to make IP geolocation work with HTTPS?

Beth Qiang
@bethqiang
Aug 02 2016 03:15
@bomholt - i don't think there's a way to work around it. you'll either have to use apis that all use https or apis that all use http...
Michael Bomholt
@bomholtm
Aug 02 2016 03:17
@bethqiang well is there a IP geolocation api that works with https?
Beth Qiang
@bethqiang
Aug 02 2016 03:18
@bomholt not sure. i used the html geolocation and the dark sky/forecast.io api (which worked over https). if you wanted to use ip geolocation, i'm ~95% sure that the weather api that fcc suggests (i want to say it's openweathersomething but i'm not positive?) uses http
actually scratch that, i'm 100% sure because that was my first plan of attack
Michael Bomholt
@bomholtm
Aug 02 2016 03:19
@bethqiang i am using html geolocation as well with forecast.io
but you know the error function of html geolocation? if its blocked or something?
instead of returning an error my local weather should use ip geolocation
it actually did but not anymore :)
Beth Qiang
@bethqiang
Aug 02 2016 03:21
@bomholt i'm confused--are you trying to get the error function to be using ip geolocation?
Michael Bomholt
@bomholtm
Aug 02 2016 03:22
@bethqiang
if(navigator.geolocation){
    navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(X, Y);
this is the normal code for html geolocation right?
if geolocation works funtion X is returned and if its not working Y is returned right
the normal case would be like an error alert or something
Beth Qiang
@bethqiang
Aug 02 2016 03:24
@bomholt as long as x and y are defined functions, yes
Michael Bomholt
@bomholtm
Aug 02 2016 03:24
if(navigator.geolocation){
    navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(showPositionHTML, showPositionIP);
so that my code and it uses HTML geolocation as long its possible.. if its not it returns location by IP
but the IP API is not working anymore but i maybe found one
Beth Qiang
@bethqiang
Aug 02 2016 03:27
@bomholt so i guess the issue with that is that if you're looking for one that works over http, the forecast.io api won't work...
so you'll get a location but no weather information
Michael Bomholt
@bomholtm
Aug 02 2016 03:28
@bethqiang yea exactly... i also prefer th @bethqiang m to work under https.
everything should be https :)
i actually think i got it working again... tried https://freegeoip.net for like half a hour but suddenly it seems to work
it works on codepens /DEBUG but not on /FULL wtf... i should just go to bed ^^
Beth Qiang
@bethqiang
Aug 02 2016 03:36
@bomholt why are you even trying to use an ip api as the error? because, in my opinion, i think using html geolocation is far better...and your ip api won't work anyway if you're not over https, so you'll still have the main downside that you would if you didn't use the ip api as your backup
Michael Bomholt
@bomholtm
Aug 02 2016 03:38
@bethqiang i want to have ip geolocation as backup
there are devices who cant use html geolocation and some users are blocking html geolocation by default and dont even get asked to allow. i have ip geolocation as backup so it also works for them aswell
as long as html geolocation is working it will provide its data
in cases where its not working i find it way better to have another way to return the data instead just an error message

@ChrisL108 not sure if you've tried diagnosing this particular error: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7157393/xmlhttprequest-cannot-load
that jsonp callback is not what i would have guessed it to be (it's not the typical) but i know some can be different so if you found that specifically for that site, then that might not be an issue

@ChrisL108 basically, you either need to use something like crossorigin.me or a similar service that routes around it or use a jsonp. you look like you were trying to use jsonp but i've never seen that format before.
again, some sites have specific jsonp formats though so look into if that's the case or not...if not, look up the typical json p callback :)

It says Authorization Required. Any idea please?

When in doubt, always refer to official docs.

Basically, I want current-pressure to be on the left, current-wind on the right and current-humidity should be in between and have same amount of space to each of them.
I wrapped this data in separate divs with width = 33% and aligned one text to left, second to center and last to right. But it looks like this:

button.click(function(){

To fix that add &callback=? at the end of your url

Hey guys, quick question about the weather app...using navigator to get lat/long to pass to the openweather API and it seems to work just fine in a local environment, but failing the API call in code pen. Anyone experience this or know how to debug network issues in codepen?
Mikail Bayram
@mikail1998
Aug 02 2016 12:19
@delbertlegg could you send your code
so I can see what is the problem
Here's the pen
Coincidentally it's getting the map, but not returning any json
Mikail Bayram
@mikail1998
Aug 02 2016 12:21
@delbertlegg hmm why dont you try something simpler
wihout a map
$.getJSON("http://ip-api.com/json", function(position){
currentLocation.lat=position.lat;
currentLocation.lon=position.lon;
for example
its much more easier and fulfills your needs
Delbert Legg
@delbertlegg
Aug 02 2016 12:23
Yeah, map was there just to test (along with some other items). I left it because it was a nice indication that the geolocation service returned the correct area
kirbyedy
@kirbyedy
Aug 02 2016 12:23
@delbertlegg you can cheat with crossorigin.me
in front of your http
Delbert Legg
@delbertlegg
Aug 02 2016 12:24
But the navigator is native to JS and seems to work fine running in an express app on my local machine
Mikail Bayram
@mikail1998
Aug 02 2016 12:25
maybe instead of geolocation, use another api for getting the location as i sent you above
I had a similar problem with geolocation
and just got the longitude and latitude together with the new api
kirbyedy
@kirbyedy
Aug 02 2016 12:25
wunderground api serves over https
Delbert Legg
@delbertlegg
Aug 02 2016 12:26
Ah, so maybe compatibility with codepen then. I used ip info before but found a bunch of malware links so I dropped it in favor of native JS services
Mikail Bayram
@mikail1998
Aug 02 2016 12:27
@delbertlegg yeah maybe its because of codepen
im not sure whats the source of the problem
Delbert Legg
@delbertlegg
Aug 02 2016 12:28
Okie doke, thanks. Not terribly concerned...would like it to work in codepen but it ultimately works anyway
kirbyedy
@kirbyedy
Aug 02 2016 12:28
chrome from version 50 does not serve http for location, as its unsecure, only over https
basically geolocation should work in chrome if your codepen starts with https://
Mikail Bayram
@mikail1998
Aug 02 2016 12:29
@delbertlegg yeah its just a minor setback
noo problemoo
Delbert Legg
@delbertlegg
Aug 02 2016 12:29
hrm...let me try that @kirbyedy
Bah, no dice
It's fine, thanks guys :)
kirbyedy
@kirbyedy
Aug 02 2016 12:29
but you have to cheat openweather api, with https://crossorigin.me
because then chrome complains about mixed content :D
or use api which server over https like wunderground
or you use ip-location which is http, you leave openweather on http, aaaand your codepen link to start with http://
Delbert Legg
@delbertlegg
Aug 02 2016 12:30
Oh, that's why. It's the geolocation service that's failing, not the weather api
kirbyedy
@kirbyedy

@khaduch I tried to, couldn't find how to put imgs in a grid row
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Aug 02 2016 13:35

@CloudyShows - a simple example:

<div class="row">
    <div class="col-md-4">
        <img src="http://whatever_your_image_is.jpg">
    </div>
    <div class="col-md-4">
        <img src="http://whatever_your_image_is.jpg">
    </div>
    <div class="col-md-4">
        <img src="http://whatever_your_image_is.jpg">
    </div>
</div>

Just so you find a way to use all 12 columns, something like that should work?

Michal Kozlowski
@McBiggos
Aug 02 2016 13:37
@Evercleared first of all - link you use in getQuote already returns random quote
which you can check simply by opening it in browser
no need for this rand thing
however, you may see that it returns same quote every time
just put this on the top of js
$.ajaxSetup({ cache: false });
and when it comes to inserting <p> tag
when you generate new quote, you asign <p>blablabla</p> to your #text
so when you tweet, it gets pasted as whole
I got around this by cutting first 3 chars and last 4 before sending it to twitter link

@CloudyShows you do pretty well

Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Aug 02 2016 13:53

@CloudyShows - one place to start it to make everything on your page be wrapped with one div with container or container-fluid class.. Also you have a button element with <button type "button", which should be <button type="button"

The structure of the HTML is important to having the correct behavior, especially when you are trying to make a page like this. Other times it is not that much of a problem, but here you're trying to have a uniform behavior on all of the page, so it has to be structured properly. One easy way to look for problems is to open the page in Firefox, hover over the rendered page and right click, look on the options for "This Frame" (within the CodePen environment, at least) and look at the page source. Items that are highlighted in red on that source page will report errors if you hover over them.

Hi guys, I have question about code styling? Do you prefer one return varaible and a vriable that can be changed throught the function. Or multiple returns?

    getBusServices(): Array<BusService> {
        let storedBusServices: any = this.localStorageService.get<any>(LocalStorageKeys.busServices);
        let busServices: Array<BusService> = new Array<BusService>();

        if (!_.isNull(storedBusServices) && !_.isUndefined(storedBusServices)) busServices = storedBusServices.map((busService) => new BusService(busService));

        return busServices;
    }

vs

    getBusServices(): Array<BusService> {
        let storedBusServices: any = this.localStorageService.get<any>(LocalStorageKeys.busServices);

        if (!_.isNull(storedBusServices) && !_.isUndefined(storedBusServices)) {
            let busServices: Array<BusService> = storedBusServices.map((busService) => new BusService(busService));
            return busServices;
        }
        return new Array<BusService>();

awesome! so I've been goofing around in this codpen to figure things out with images and how they work with bootstrap columns
and I don't understand why my div is so much larger than the image inside
and I keep running into this problem and it's making it difficult to understand how to use the bootstrap columns effectively
Jesus Hilario H.
@jesushilarioh
Aug 02 2016 15:54
@dmdusang if i may, i think it's because bootstrap is image responsive...i'm sure there is a way to stretch the image the length of the div. However, you prolly won't want that.
@jesushilariohernandez also, the class .g-item is not designated to anything in your html.
Drew Dusang
@dmdusang
Aug 02 2016 15:56
right, I made that to just see if if changing the image size would affect the length of the div

Hey guys I'm working on the "Build a Random Quote Machine" and can't figure out how to dynamically alter the data-text of the Tweet button to the quote that is loaded. Any resources or directions you can provide would be a huge help. I've tried googling but I just can't figure it out. Also, please just point me in the right direction so I can figure it out on my own. Thanks!

Aug 02 2016 19:38
@gonzalezi2 I found that you had to jump through some hoops for older twitter interfaces.
I was directed to web intents - https://dev.twitter.com/web/intents
Ivan
@gonzalezi2
Aug 02 2016 19:43
@sjames1958gm I'm not sure I follow. I've already read the tweet-intent documentation but it does not say anything about being able to change the data-text attribute. It only mentions pre-populated text
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
Aug 02 2016 19:45
@gonzalezi2 I imagine that you can change the href in your link (assuming you are using <a></a> to the new URL with the new tweet parameters (URL encoded)).
then clicking on the link would use the new URL
Ivan

@sorinr when calling your initMap function from showContact, the map works fine.(seems like you forgot to call it).
function showContact(){
  $('span').removeClass('hidden animated bounceInRight');
  $('span.contact').addClass("animated bounceInRight");
  $('span.main, span.about, span.portfolio').addClass('hidden');
  initMap();
}

@paulina-jenney In you explorer section, it's the image that needs to have the class 'col-xs-6' instead of the div

@paulina-jenney Like this :

<div><img class=" col-xs-6  img-responsive" src= "https://scontent.fsnc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/11181682_10205008717153895_4266576230360659008_n.jpg?oh=bc40f8e4c43ed3b91fe3dc4f4cfb598e&oe=5827482C"</div>

And it's working well ;)

@amit-s You're totally right, that solves the bug instead of what I've said. Shame on me ^^

@alchermd you could try this:
$(document).ready(function() {
  var number = 10;
  $('#target').html(number);
  $("#target").click(function() {
    number -= 1;
    $('#target').html(number);
  });
});

Aug 02 2016 22:25
@Belax8 yikes I think I'm not clear on what I want to do haha. Let me rephrase: Clicking #target should decrement it every second until it reaches zero (like a countdown timer)
brycemcdonald86
@brycemcdonald86
Aug 02 2016 22:30
@alchermd Is this what your want?

$(document).ready(function() {
var number = 10;
$("#target").html(number);
$("#target").click(function() {

   setInterval(countdown, 1000);
}
function countdown(){
   number -= 1;
 $("#target").html(number);
}
w/o messups
$(document).ready(function() {
var number = 10;
$("#target").html(number);
$("#target").click(function() {

   setInterval(countdown, 1000);
}
function countdown(){
   number -= 1;
 $("#target").html(number);
});
});

@Bowers96 It might be a “well" class. Try adding that to your div element in html
@kikosalguero For the url called, all you need is ...opensearch&search=" + text. You don’t need the rest of that other stuff in your url variable.
