I think $(this) is the <p></p> and not the input
@wbac88 Try moving the id or registering on the $("input") which is the tag name
William Cabell

Hi guys, I'm working on the Local Weather app and am having trouble with loading the page correctly. If you look at the chrome console when the page loads it shows that zip is not defined, but if you click the submit button everything works perfectly. What could be the problem?
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Aug 15 2016 02:56
@maxgawason because you're loading js in the html in a head tag
codepen preloads the head and body
you can only use what's inside

Aug 15 2016 03:13
@maxgawason You had quite a few errors. You were trying to load your own js in settings which was causing parsing errors. You also have body and head tags in the html. You wrapped a button in an h1 and you had two different types of ajax calls when you only need getJSON.

Still having difficulty getting my wikipedia viewer to post any info from the JSON to the search-results div. I feel like either my ajax call is in the wrong place (because it looks like the url is not accessible, not being hoisted, not sure why), or i need to put the ajax inside of a function, then call that function inside the event handler (on click of search button). Any ideas of what to try? Code on github gh-pages: https://github.com/alfonsotech/wikipedia-viewer/tree/gh-pages App is live here: https://alfonsotech.github.io/wikipedia-viewer/

@alfonsotech there's a lot of problems there. among them:
i don't think your .getJSON is ever running. you need to put it in a function, and when you get input, call that function and pass it your URL variable.

i'm most familiar with using JSONP, in which case you would need to add &callback=? to the end of the URL, and change format=jsonfm to format=json.

last, you will need to run your .each on data.query.search rather than data since data is just an object with the properties batchcomplete, sroffset, searchinfo, etc

@kfathy194 Add this to your jQuery code
$(".nav a").on("click", function(){ $(".nav").find(".active").removeClass("active"); $(this).parent().addClass("active"); });
It shall remedy class="active" problem
as for displayed content you should use hide() and then displaying it by adding a class
addClass() or toggleClass
oh and surely don't forget to add jQuery to your JavaScript before adding my code

@travissl Well, I would first get the content and the sections there before dealing with the navbar. Splitting into different sections you can use different divs and give each div a corresponding id/class, right? Use the CSS to get it positioned how you'd like

I need to build a webpage. I'd probably most like to build it using React, for practice. Are there prepackaged themes I could use to make it look pretty, like I would in Wordpress? Ideally I'd use React over Wordpress for the practice in a new tool. How do professionals do it? I mean, do they use prepackaged templates, or work with web designers?

hi guys, i'm working on the portfolio project and i have struggling with one damn image for the last hour.
This image refuse to accept my right margin.

Here is the html:
<img src="http://i.imgur.com/JEX3ye4.jpg" class=" img-responsive img-rounded imagesize1 pull-left" style="float">

here is the Css:
.imagesize1 {width:90px;
height:60px;
margin-left:5px;
margin-right:5px;
margin-top:5px;}

If someone could save me i would be extremely grateful :smile:

Have a nice day and good luck

@Falskry You might be able to fix it by changing it to margin-right: 5px !important; though that might not be recommended in most cases. It's most likely something with the wrapping container that is making it a bit difficult for you
Falskry
@Falskry
Aug 15 2016 13:55
@Todai88 that's what i thought too at first but i have two other images that respect the margins i set without any problem, i am really confused ^^
I will try though.
thanks for trying, i will tell you if it give me any result

Hi, I'm starting on the local weather app, and before I go too far, I have a question. Do we have to get the user's location automatically, or can we prompt the user for input?
Tyler Moeller
@TylerMoeller

@mullinswebworx You don't have to get the location automatically if the user can search for the weather in their location instead. Most people do automatic location lookup though.

console.log(anArray); //[1, 2, 3, 4]

OK, this is relatively simple question - How do you center your divs and other items when you use Bootstrap? my method is rather silly, I just use the text center class on everything. The documentation talks about using offsets, is this the proper way to do it or am I missing something really obvious?

Tyler Moeller
@TylerMoeller
Aug 15 2016 19:03
@kmulligan It looks like you're always expecting two numbers when the user presses an operator button. If I do 2 * 2, there will only be one number in the input history when I click the multiply button.
^^ Didn't look really closely, could be other issues going on as well
Kevin Mulligan
@kmulligan
Aug 15 2016 19:05
@TylerMoeller Yea you're right... it doesn't happen on the first set of numbers, only if an operator button is clicked.. now to go back through and discover what I did wrong :|
@TylerMoeller Looks like a problem with eval();...
Tyler Moeller
@TylerMoeller
Aug 15 2016 19:20
@kmulligan Right, using the same example of 2 * 2 when you press *, you are running eval(2*) which gives an unexpected end of input.

Aug 15 2016 19:38
The grid system works like so, it is 12 columns wide. We specify using col-- the width of columns (anywhere from 1-12) and then either xs, sm, md, or lg
That correlates to the screen size and how they will adjust the columns
The offset tells the columns to not start until you hit the offset, i.e if we offset by 2, our container will begin at the 3rd column location
Yuriy Medentsii
@hvuntokrul
Aug 15 2016 19:39

Hi everyone, I'm just starting my random quote machine project, and had a quick question. As I understand it, this challenge is supposed to test/teach us on using APIs to get info from a quote database. My question is, is there a database we're supposed to use? Are we supposed to create our own as part of project? I can't seem to find any info on this.

No matter how I do it I can't seem to use the "pre" parameter right

Neither does "collection[pre]"
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Aug 15 2016 21:46
@BlackSuitAndroid - collection is an array of objects, which you have set up with your "for" loop. So you need to refer to "collection[i][pre]". (My phone doesn't have the backticks, I hope that shows up correctly.

@DanielMW34 what is the actual issue you are having? I see you are calling your function but without a variable so not sure it would do anything.
Daniel
@DanielMW34
Aug 15 2016 22:34
@Timbowser I suppose at this point it is understanding the lack of having a variable
by variable, do you mean something like the $(document).ready() or an .on("click") ?
Timbowser
@Timbowser
Aug 15 2016 22:35
when you call showPosition(position) position needs to be referenced so it can do something with it.
@DanielMW34 position is the var it needs in order to run the function. It should then spit info back out.
Daniel
@DanielMW34
Aug 15 2016 22:36
hmmm....
I'm totally confused
Timbowser
@Timbowser
Aug 15 2016 22:38
@DanielMW34 when you call your function it requires a variable to run. showPosition(somethingHere); somethingHere would be the variable it needs to make the calculations.
Daniel
@DanielMW34
Aug 15 2016 22:39
I guess I am trying to get that variable from the navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition()
@Timbowser Yeah, even copied directly from the fCC waypoint on geolocation this is not working...
 if (navigator.geolocation) {
    navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position) {
    $("#data").html("latitude: " + position.coords.latitude + "<br>longitude: " + position.coords.longitude);
  });
  }

Aug 15 2016 22:41
Try to use console.log(position) and see if you get any results
Daniel

rather...
 if (navigator.geolocation) {
    navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position) {

  });

@coymeetsworld I did that because I wanted the page to look more dynamic
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Aug 15 2016 23:00
i would say on smaller screens you don't want wrapping, so it would be something like Title, then image, then content
image would take up most of the width I suppose
but also I wouldn't worry too much about the page not being mobile unless you specifically want to learn more about this now
its not a requirement for this project, and you could always go back and improve on it later if you wanted. I did w/ my projects and I'm still trying to get my portfolio to look better mobile
