Hmmm doesn't seem like javascript is helping... It seems as if the margin keeps growing around the image to keep it centered... weird.

Why wouldn't this code work?
$(document).ready(function(){
    $.getJSON("http://api.wunderground.com/api/Your_Key/conditions/q/CA/San_Francisco.json", function(json) {
        var hi = json.city;
  });

Never mind.

@irishrose Happy to hear that I'm not the only one with the issue. I'm looking into currently. It seems with bootstrap when you center an image it uses the margin property to keep it centered on the page.

I need help. I'm trying to change the border color of a selected element which is dynamically added after the page has loaded. I have to use the on() method since the element is added after the page is loaded but then I can't use the 'this' keyword to reference the object because it is referencing the document instead of the selector. Here is what I have...
$(document).on('mouseover',$('.result'),function(event){

its highlighting every element with the class .result but I just want it to highlight the current element that it mousesover

var choices=[a b c d etcetc];
var move= choices[Math.floor(Math.random()*choices.length)];

 <div class="box" id="a"></div>
      <div class="box" id="b"></div>
      <div class="box" id="c"></div>
      <div class="box" id="d"></div>
      <div class="box" id="e"></div>
      <div class="box" id="f"></div>
      <div class="box" id="g"></div>
      <div class="box" id="h"></div>
      <div class="box" id="i"></div> //IS THERE A WAY OF SELECTING one of the ids or .box INSTEAD of one element from choices array.?
IM trying to get an array of potential moves.
Is there a way I can do this via my box class or Ids instead of through a made up array which i have to convert?
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 03:40
@123xylem it would be easier to make the array and then generate HTML with JS
if I'm understanding what you're asking correctly
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 03:40
@karpimpski http://codepen.io/123xylem/pen/JKqYZY?editors=1011
So i have a board of boxes which them divs are... I want to randomly select a box and have that trigger some inner html
The HTML has to be there to start so i have the board in place
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 03:42
so what exactly are you trying to do here? just simplify your code?
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 03:55
@karpimpski im trying to get mby js to randomly select a Html ID (box)
if that means putting them ids in an array or maybe the box class is already an array?
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 03:58
@123xylem oh! that's not an issue at all
so you'll want to generate a random number between 0 and choices.length
then document.getElementById(choices[RANDOM_NUMBER])
or $(choices[RANDOM_NUMBER]) or something similar for jQuery
haven't used jQuery in a while
it would be $("#" + choices[RANDOM_NUMBER])
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:05
@karpimpski but the ids are in string format
theyre also not in choices array
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:06
@123xylem yeah, and all of your choices are also in string format
you're calling the id of whatever that index in your choices in that array is
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:06
the ids are <div class box id ="a" > etc etc
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:06
like if the random number generate was 0, that would translate to $("#A")
so let's say you create a RNG that generate a number between 0 and 8, right?
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:07
yea
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:07
let's say it generates the number 0. calling choices[RANDOM_NUMBER] would give you the value of whatever is at index 0 in your array, right?
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:07
var move= ARRAY THE IDS ARE IN [Math.floor(Math.random()*SAME AS BEFORE.length)];

 <div class="box" id="a"></div>
      <div class="box" id="b"></div>
      <div class="box" id="c"></div>
      <div class="box" id="d"></div>
      <div class="box" id="e"></div>
      <div class="box" id="f"></div>
      <div class="box" id="g"></div>
      <div class="box" id="h"></div>
      <div class="box" id="i"></div>
ok right
so are these ids in the $(.box) array or ?
I dont know how to access these ids .length etc
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:08
so that would then equate to "A". all you need to do is call the ID of choices[random_number] which would equate to "A"
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:09
i get ya now... its just I dont know how to put these Ids in choices.
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:09
just google how to generate a random int between 2 numbers. make it 0 and 8. then change your HTML ids to uppercase or your JavaScript values to undercase. or you could call the toLowerCase method on your choices
choice*
I'm not sure what you mean
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:10
these ids are not in the choices array
I made that up so I would convert the choice to an ID later.. but now i think thats stupid I may aswell directly access the ID via var move
BUT How can i directly access the array of IDS if IDS arent in an array!
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:12
that's a dumb way to do things. keep the array, that's the best way to do it
all you would end up doing is re-creating the array through a jQuery solution anyway, and that would cause you to write more code that you don't need to write. keep the array
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:17
@karpimpski so lets say i get choices "a" how do i make my js use that on the html id "a"?
@karpimpski sorry to ask u so much
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:17
@123xylem jQuery! $("#a")
then you can do whatever jQuery method on it
more realistically you would store a in a variable, let's say choice, since you'll be randomly generating it. so you'll access it using $("#"+choice+"")
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:18
but it would be $(#choices) as the choice is different each time
yea
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:20
@123xylem yeah exactly! just make sure you remove the letter from choices each time the computer or the user select it and then you're set on that part!
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:21
@karpimpski yea my choices function does that :)

function cpu(){
  if(userX<1){
  $("#choice").text("X");}
   else if(usery<1){
  $("#choice").text("Y");}

console.log(choice);
}
I call cpu after user inputs their move.. then cpu works out which player it is
ie if user x or y
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:24
cool! just a quick tip, it would be simpler for your code just to declaer a player variable as "X" or "Y"
then that whole thing could just be replaced with "$("#"+choice+"").text(player)
btw you can't do $("#choice"). that will look for an HTML element with the id of "choice", not the variable choice
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:27

Aug 24 2016 04:27
so its "$("#"+choice+"")
Michael Karpinski
@karpimpski
Aug 24 2016 04:28
yeah, they definitely can be confusing. just keep in mind you NEVER put a variable within quotations. then it will just read it as a string, and not your variable
and yep
Chris Cullen
@123xylem
Aug 24 2016 04:30
that doesnt work for me it just thinks its a string
function cpu(){
  if(userX<1){
  $("#"+choice).text("X");}
   else {
  $("#"+choice).text("Y");}

console.log(move());
}
and this stops my promptfrom working
function cpu(){
  if(userX<1){
  "$"("#"+choice).text("X");}
   else {
  "$"("#"+choice).text("Y");}

console.log(move());
}
This maybe what u meant... stilll its not console logging move but the prompt works

@Juwdohr I'm assuming you're trying to access from index. have you tried just src=images/photo.png?
you may need to make PNG lowercase, or you may need to use HREF instead of src

@Lofthur i know it's making a grid column for a responsive design, what i don't understand is, the column total is 12 why there is more than 12 column there, and what is offset, and for md i know its for medium, but what it's in one line with the xs size

@manusia123 And you may set different screensizes in one line. So i think it goes something like this. If you have a xs screen use 12 col. If you have a small screen use 10 col but push it to the right 1 col. And lastly if it's md use 8 col but push 2 col to the right. I think this is the best answer i got.

@Natalya122 : API is an acronym for Application Program Interface. As fancy and techie techie as it sounds, it's pretty simple.

Have you ordered anything at hotel? What you do is, you tell your waiter to bring you food of your choice. Then you get your food after some time. You are not concerned about what the waiter after he takes your order. You just place an order and get your food.

So in this, Waiter is your API for food.

In your case, an API could be some url or service provider who you ask for quote and it gives you the quote!

@majedmahmood27 navbar was a bit tricky because its actually better to have a collapsed navbar, look at this http://www.bootply.com/lbIb5ZaHbq
so it shows full size when window is big but it collapses and shows a button when you shrink the website or look at it on a mobile phone

@lackodan ur json data is wrong
compare to this http://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/users
Mixed content error means.. ur website is loaded on https.. but ur content.. is loaded with http(without s ) //use both http
and probably u will also get a cross origin error.... u need tomake jsonP calls
and.. also.. add http:// to ur url.. else codepen will "think" its a relative path...

 var lat = "";
  $.getJSON("http://ip-api.com/json", function(ip){
     lat = ip.lat;

var url = "http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather?lat="+ lat +"&lon=" + lon + "&units=metric&appid=f8baf145d3ef928fe6561a3548ce2e55";

Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Aug 24 2016 15:58
@LordYamanouchi you need to put your 3rd API call (to openweather) within your second API call
you have the second api call closed, which isn't allowing the lat/lon to get to the 3rd api call
Bhushan Patil
@mrpatil007
Aug 24 2016 15:59
@rcdjasmin you can use CountUp.js also don't use waypoint

Aug 24 2016 16:05
@LordYamanouchi Since the second API function was closed, the variables were local instead of global. I used the console to figure out the issue. I did console.log(url) and noticed it wasn't getting the variables and moved the console.log around until I found out why
Bhushan Patil

Hey! Could you please help me with this project?
What I want to do is to get the quote and insert it to the "data-text" attribute of the twitter button, so that the quote appeared in the tweet text area after clicking "Tweet" button.
I came up with this line for such a functionality:
$(".twitter-share-button").attr("data-text", '"' + parsed["quote"] + '"');
However, it's not working? What is wrong? Is it to be placed somewhere else or just another piece of code is needed?

@omgpewpew you cant access .twitter-share-button once its rendered in DOM because it will be replaced by iframe as you loaded twitter widget.js
@omgpewpew you can verify that by inspecting that button in developer tools
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal
Aug 24 2016 19:08
@omgpewpew instead of using twitter button widget you can use a tag and style it as button(as you want it to look) and from JS you can access it and change href dynamically with this link http://twitter.com/share?text=<your-quote>

well, I’m having an issue with a gallery I’m creating for my porfolio. Basically, it’s an irregular gallery, and I have an issue that seems to be quite common: when hovering, I make the image scale(1.1). When I do so, the item extrapolates in 1px the parent, that has a overflow hidden.

Hi guys, I'm running into a weird issue I haven't seen before. I spent yesterday building out the functionality on my Local Weather App, and got it all working. Went back into CodePen today to design it to look all pretty, and now it's not working anymore. None of the info is showing up.
It seems like the APIs are no longer functioning
has this happened before? can someone take a look? https://codepen.io/dwhale84/pen/kXdVEo?editors=1010

@JLuboff @WesSchulte FYI, the <center> tag is not supported in HTML5. (http://caniuse.com/#search=%3Ccenter%3E)
Since you're using bootstrap, you can use the center-block class to center your image. <img src="..." class="thumbnail center-block">
Or, with CSS, define a new class for your image and do:
.img-class-name {
  display: block;
  margin-left: auto;
  margin-right: auto;
}

Aug 24 2016 22:08
@apalm1341 It can be confusing :) You don't usually have to add anything to your web page unless it specifically says so in the license. Some APIs require you to put a logo in the footer of your page, for example. Bootstrap doesn't require this, but if you wanted to modify bootstrap and redistribute it, you would have to include the MIT License with it.
Otherwise, just code away! :)

@gonzalezi2 This is one approach to processing the different account states:
.done(function (data) {

  } else if (!data.stream) {
    // process offline accounts
  } else {
