Trying to find a way to switch my temperature to Celsius.

<div class="temperature">
<button onclick=FC ><p id="temp"></p>℉/°C</button>
</div>
document.getElementById("temp").innerHTML = temp.toString();

      function myFunction() {
document.getElementById("temp").innerHTML = celsius.toString();

};

I got the code above from w3schools, but it's not working very well.

@Juwdohr Not sure if you mean that you want your footer to stay at the bottom of the screen or bottom of the page. This is the styling I've been using

.footer {
position: fixed;
bottom: 0;
width: 100%;
}

It keeps the footer at the bottom of the screen while you scroll through the rest of the page. Hope that helps.

hey guys, i need help removing an event listener (I think that's the problem in my code). i generate the event listener like this
function addMouseOver(thisId, thisBox){
    thisBox.addEventListener("mouseover", function(){
        if(thisBox.className.includes(thisId+'-mouse-in') == false){
            var re = new RegExp(thisId+"-mouse-out","g");
            thisBox.className = thisBox.className.replace(re,'');
            thisBox.className += thisId+'-mouse-in';
        }
    });
}

function addMouseOut(thisId, thisBox){
    thisBox.addEventListener("mouseout", function(){
        if(thisBox.className.includes(thisId+'-mouse-in')){
            var re = new RegExp(thisId+'-mouse-in',"g");
            thisBox.className = thisBox.className.replace(re, '');
            thisBox.className += thisId+'-mouse-out';
        }
    });
}
in this case, thisId is 'unowned' and i want it to change once it's owned.
so then i made this:
function removeUnowned(thisId, thisBox){
    thisBox.removeEventListener("mouseover", function(){
        if(thisBox.className.includes(thisId+'-mouse-in') == false){
            var re = new RegExp(thisId+"-mouse-out","g");
            thisBox.className = thisBox.className.replace(re,'');
            thisBox.className += thisId+'-mouse-in';
        }
    });

    thisBox.removeEventListener("mouseout", function(){
        if(thisBox.className.includes(thisId+'-mouse-in')){
            var re = new RegExp(thisId+'-mouse-in',"g");
            thisBox.className = thisBox.className.replace(re, '');
            thisBox.className += thisId+'-mouse-out';
        }
    });
}

This message was deleted
function palindrome(str) {
  // Good luck!
  console.log("str: ", str);
  str = str.toLowerCase();
  var array = str.split('');
  console.log(array);
  var revArray = array;
  revArray = revArray.reverse();
  console.log(array);
  console.log(revArray);
After those lines, revArray is reversed fine, but so is array!
I think that var revArray = array; doesn't create a new array at all, but a pointer to the old array.
Every change I make to revArray is reflected in array also.

Hey everyone! Need some help with bootstrap here. Actually I need tons of help with learning to design pages that don't look crappy too hahaha but first things first! Two things: can't figure out why some bootstrap elements aren't working here: 1: the columns with the two placeholders I have for sharing buttons (I put three columns in the row so the buttons would be set off to the left), and 2: I tried to make a "new quote" button that looked more like the bootstrap one but it didn't work, still looks like a normal HTML button... http://codepen.io/billpzt/pen/qNZrJk

Trevor
@electrostaticfleece
Aug 30 2016 05:09
I could be wrong. I haven't worked on codepen in a while and they might have made changes to the site. But from what I recall if you go to the settings gear under css and select the drop down there should be an option that allows you to use bootstrap's css
billpzt
@billpzt

Aug 30 2016 05:21
Well, it's an improvement then! I think they need to get students to practice more design elements too, aligning stuff, CSS, etc, I feel like a 6-year-old making these pages, I put something someplace and it pushes something else out of its position... Then I look back at the example project I'm supposed to more or less copy and it feels light years ahead of what I can do, pretty discouraging :worried:
... and I've studied HTML and CSS a few times before...
Trevor
@electrostaticfleece
Aug 30 2016 05:24
@billpzt Don't be! It's all a part of the process! When I started out my design was pretty bad
But with a lot of effort you can overcome almost anything
billpzt
@billpzt
Aug 30 2016 05:28
@electrostaticfleece Well I won't give up, I'm a teacher so I know I can learn eventually. Just wish there were some way to understand this stuff faster. Takes so much time to figure out what the page is going to look like, then figure out what I'm going to want, then where to put each little thing, then how, then on and on, it's too time consuming! I can usually figure out an algorithm much faster, and when I'm stumped it's easier for me to know where to find the answer online.
@electrostaticfleece Thanks for the encouragement. Can't give more brownie points, though :laughing:

@billpzt I get where you're coming from. Right now, I kind of feel the same way. But it just takes getting used to. I'll be honest. Learning to code isn't easy, but it's definitely worth it after spending hours and hours trying to get things just right.

Aug 30 2016 05:36
Case in point: got the bootstrap working, and stuff looks nicer in general, but now a few elements aren't aligned any more, and I have no idea why: the header with the "Quotes" text was squished, and the part with the two media buttons is too high inside the box, and stretched out beyond the boundary of the quote box on both sides... http://codepen.io/billpzt/pen/qNZrJk

Aug 30 2016 05:42
Honestly, I kind of hate how FCC pushes bootstrap. It get's you up and coding fast, but It doesn't really let you learn the fundamentals of positioning well.
It's pretty much a short term solution in my opinion. All it really has that's relevant is a grid system and some nicely packaged buttons imo, but you can make some really rad things without it.
billpzt
@billpzt
Aug 30 2016 05:44
@electrostaticfleece I thought it was neat because I've always struggled with positioning, but I see your point. I'm having trouble with it too so same difference hahaha
Trevor

Aug 30 2016 05:46
I finished up building this backend project today: https://charthestocks.herokuapp.com/ . No bootstrap, Just a bit of postcss to add variables. But for the most part the design is pure html css
except for the graph... that's d3
I just think you can do just about anything bootstrap does with flexboxes and you have more contro.
billpzt
@billpzt
Aug 30 2016 05:51
That's way over my head :laughing: I'm still struggling to get my boxes aligned
Trevor

Well, when you have a bit of free time. Check this out also: https://css-tricks.com/snippets/css/a-guide-to-flexbox/. Flexboxes essentially take all of the pain out of tricky alignment and you only have to write like 2 classes.

Aug 30 2016 06:37
@trip16661 I see 2 problems. First, you're having option elements inside a ul. ul should contain li elements. I also notice that you have Option component (with capital O) so I am assuming, in best case, your Option component generates an li
option elements (the html option) should be present inside select elements.
Elbert Cortez
@trip16661
Aug 30 2016 06:38
@adityaparab well its actually a li element just that its a react compnent but its still a li element
const Option = ({children, onClick}) => <li onClick={onClick}>{children}</li>;
};
what do you mean by slect elements?
Everything that has capital is a react component
that common practice
Trevor
@electrostaticfleece
Aug 30 2016 06:54
@trip16661 If you're still in here I think I might have a hint as to what's going on. Try this. Pass onAnswer and result down to your Option component as props and move your first onClick function down to the li element.
Elbert Cortez
@trip16661
Aug 30 2016 06:56
@electrostaticfleece you mean passing in the info in the Option component ?
calling onClick(children) you mean?
if so its the same it returns undefined
Trevor
@electrostaticfleece
Aug 30 2016 06:58
Okay, so I feel like an idiot now because I think it's staring us right in the face
this.handleChecking is getting any arguments
and onAnswer doesn't have any parameters defined
so onAnswer should be onAnswer = {(result) => this.handleChecking(result)}
@trip16661 Let me know if that works because if so it means it's time for me to go to bed because I can't see obvious solutions. I've been coding for like 12 hours today...
Elbert Cortez
@trip16661

Trevor
@electrostaticfleece
Aug 30 2016 07:07
Well <Options onAnswer={(result) => this.handleChecking(result)} result={[1, 2, ,3 ,4]}/> definitely needs to look like that. I can tell you that much
Elbert Cortez
@trip16661
Aug 30 2016 07:07
and no onAnswer cant have this.handle because that metodh belongs
to
the parents
i refactored it to make it look better
    class Parent from Component {
      constructor() {
        super();
        this.number = 1
      }
      handleChecking(result) {
        if (this.props.number  ===  result) {
          invokeThis()
        }
      }
      render() {
        return (
          <Options onCheck={() => this.handleChecking()} result={[1, 2, 3]}/>
        )
      }
    }
    // Options component method
    //child -- Options
    const Options = ({onCheck, results}) => {
      return (
        <ul>
          {results.map((result, i) => <Option onClick={() => onCheck(result)} key={i}>{result}</Option>)}
        </ul>
      )
    //Option component
    const Option = ({children, onClick}) => <li onClick={onClick}>{children}</li>};
Trevor
@electrostaticfleece

Elbert Cortez
@trip16661
Aug 30 2016 07:11
@electrostaticfleece that's imposible
result is a variable generated from the map in another component
Trevor
@electrostaticfleece
Aug 30 2016 07:12
just try it out
Because that's where your defining your function
It's not actually taking an argument
It doesn't have to be result it could be onCheck={(shababa) => this.handleChecking(shababa)}
Since you're defining the function there NOT calling the function
Elbert Cortez
@trip16661
Aug 30 2016 07:14
@electrostaticfleece now it returns an object
as parameter
the event object i think
Proxy {dispatchConfig: Object, _targetInst: ReactDOMComponent, _dispatchInstances: ReactDOMComponent, nativeEvent: MouseEvent, type: "click"…}
[[Handler]]

Object
[[Target]]
:

[[IsRevoked]]

also the logic is not smart at all i can win it 100% of the time following the same pattern
I think you have to re-think about your app logic.

@trip16661 something that isnt "make id win every time"... basically its just giving me smaller more specific ideas than big obvious mistakes that i have
which I know youd love to do :)
Can anyone tell me how do i make it change the quote when button is clicked?
Elbert Cortez
@trip16661
Aug 30 2016 09:59
Well I'm more prone to think to have a solid product before even atempting to improve because it will just get mixed and you will end up doing everthing else but not having a solid core
@hacu9 seeing at your code i see that you are making a index variable but you will run into a problem when the index is bigger than the length of the array
also check for onClick events in javascript

@hacu9 yes but on that function you will end up like this
encount
@encount
Aug 30 2016 10:19

@hacu9 function newquote() {

document.getElementById("newQuote").innerHTML =quotes[i].quote+" "+quotes[i].by;
i++;
}

Elbert Cortez
@trip16661
Aug 30 2016 10:19
1 then click again 2 then click again 3 then click again 4
u can fix it with if statements
if the index is greather than the length of the array
then make index back to 0

@samanthamed
Aug 30 2016 13:49
@Todai88 looks good so far! I would only possibly caution against using city name and country (versus zip code) to identify the location. I found that if you are in a town/city that exists in multiple states (e.g. Springfield), it tends to default to the most populous instance of a city/town with that name, rather than the one you are actually located in. I would maybe experiment with using the zip code instead for that reason
Joakim Bajoul Kakaei

@samanthamed Good suggestion. Should be easy enough. So rather City, Zip?
Samantha Medeiros
@samanthamed
Aug 30 2016 13:50
@Todai88 I think the way I did it, is that I used city/country wherever I was displaying the name of the city to the user, but for fetching the weather data itself, I referred to the zip code in the API

wouldn't you be able to add it to the <head> section in the top of the HTML? For some reason my code does not work for all (a,b), but does work for some. The error must be in the first function, i.e. the way I'm recursively calling lcm. Any ideas?
/*
You can compute the LCM of more than two numbers by iteratively computing the LCM of two numbers, for example
lcm(a,b,c) = lcm(a, lcm(b,c))
*/

function smallestCommons(arr) {
arr = arr.sort();
var a = arr[0];
var b = arr[1];
var myRange = [];

for (var i = a+1; i < b; i++) {
  myRange.push(lcm(i, lcm(i+1, i+2)));
}
  // I pushed the values to myRange because if I returned inside the for loop I would only
  // get the first iteration.
  return myRange[myRange.length-1];
}

/*
This function calculates the greatest common denominator of two integers using Euclid's algorithm.
*/
function gcd(a,b) {
  if (b === 0) {
    return a;
  }
  else {
    return gcd(b, a%b);
  }
}

/*
This function calculates the least common multiple of two integers.
*/
function lcm(a,b) {
  return (a * b) / gcd(a,b);
}

smallestCommons([1,5]);

@ManBearPigg They may be. But don't you need to feed the LCM of the first two elements into the LCM with the third then that into the fourth, a running LCM?
ManBearPigg
@ManBearPigg
Aug 30 2016 19:03
@sjames1958gm It seems to be sorting fine for any inputs a and b
@sjames1958gm yes that sounds right. I'm not confident in the way I'm feeding lcm
@sjames1958gm I remember this from discrete math lcm(a,b,c) = lcm(a, lcm(b,c))
@sjames1958gm I tried to emulate that but I guess it wasn't successful?
I'm not sure what c is. That's about as specific as I can formulate my problem
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
Aug 30 2016 19:37
@ManBearPigg set l = a outside the loop, then l = lcm(l, i) this will get lcm of the first two then that value and the third, etc.
Then after the loop ends l is the lcm?

Working on the wikipedia app, not sure if there is a "better" or more "appropriate" choice between using the jQuery.on("click") method versus the HTML <input type="submit" formmethod="get"> for transferring the contents of the input my user wants to submit to see what wikipedia returns. @karocann - if I go to your freecodecamp.com home page, it looks like it shows that you completed the tribute page, and I can open it by clicking on the "View Project" link. I did see a slight problem with it, though, at least I think it is a problem. When I narrow the screen so that the images drop into a vertical column, the captions are all down below the three images - you should group the image and the caption together in a <div> so that they stay together. Unless you just intended it to be this way? Anyway - great memory of "Pistol Pete"!

I am building a 'customer directory' type application. I am building a delete button that is inside each <tr> and I am trying to properly use it to delete the <tr> it belongs to when clicked upon. Is there a 'good practice' jquery selector I can use to complete this task? These table rows are added dynamically and I have taken that into consideration when creating my jQuery selection calls.

example:

HTML

<tr>
  <td>
    <button class='btn btn-danger delete'>x</button> //button to delete the table row it is inside of.
  </td>
  <td class='left'>
    <p class='name'>" + data.last_name + ", " + data.first_name + "</p>
    <p class='email-address'>" + data.email_address + "</p>
  </td>
  <td>
    <p class='special'>" + data.specialty + "</p>
    <p class='practice'>" + data.practice_name + "</td>
</tr>

@vvang044 if it's codepen, when you open your tribute page there should be an embed button in the bottom right corner that will give you the code you need to add to your portfolio page's code
