Hmm.. since no one responds.. I'll sweeten the fruit by stating the problem. When I choose a menu that selects a second page.. the page displays halway scrolled up... instead of what I expect (second page ("profile" ) fills the viewport.

Hi! Im doing the Twitch api challenge and my problem is that the ajax's requests is taking a very long time. I did three ajax requests . One is for check fcc's channel status.The second takes the followers, insert them in the page, and the puts them in an array.The third(i think that it is taking the most of the time) runs over the array , and chekcs if the follower is streaming. How can i fix this?

Hey guys! I'm starting on my first front-end project, the tribute page. And I'm not sure if it's me or code pen but my image keeps disappearing and it won't make changes to my paragraph when I use p { font-size: blah blah in the CSS section
And also I'm wondering how to center text and images. I was using <center> but code pen keeps saying that it's obsolete grrr

When the Navbar opens the referred to div class... it opens in the middle of the page instead of the top.

All of you are so helpful! :D This is my first attempt at writing code from scratch so this is all super new to me, i've had the training wheels on for too long haha

Nov 10 2016 01:38
i like to start with function (js/jquery) and build around that. probly wont work always, sometimes you gotta build a little html or something to work with first
depends what youre doing i guess
probly start with some html in your case
i was doing the api projects and started with js

@Chrissyanity it depends but usually i just get a basic HTML/CSS pair working so that I can work on the JS code, assuming the project requires JS code (i.e. not tribute and portfolio)
i work on making the design better as I get further at making the JS code do what I want it to do

@yaycupcake The grid doesn't work how I want it to work. Whenever I tried positioning things next to each other, it just placed them under or above each other. So I had to do it the tedious way. For instance, if I wanted two pictures to be horizontally next to each other using col-md-1, it just put one image below the other. From my experience, the grid is woefully inefficient. I feel like I'm doing something wrong with it though.

Nov 10 2016 05:51
@JoshDeNovice You should try giving the images the class img-responsive. Also, if you have those three images and you want only them to be i that row, you should use .col-md-4 so they each take up 4 out of the 12 columns of the grid.

Somebody help, cannot find a solution. I used bottstrap buttons and chenged their styles in CSS. I want to customize button's border in active condition so I used pseudoclass :active, but customizing borders in it didn't work!

my html code:

<button class="btn>Home</button>

my css:
.btn:active {
border: 1px solid black;
}

so default Bootstrap style displays blue frames, and I need black ones. How do I get them if :active in CSS doesnt work?

@erselnordlys it maybe that bootstrap styling is overwriting your css. you could try

}

maybe not the best solution but give it a go.

Trying to unshift an input value to an array using this code. Any ideas why it doesn't work?
  $("button").click(function() {
    website += website.unshift($("input").val());

website is the name of the array
OH really?! That's good to know. But it doesn't solve the entire problem unfortunately.

With JS technologies like REACT becoming more popular, do you think the demand for designing webpages with plain HTML/CSS will become less and less?
Sorin Ruse

@stephenfs nope. react without html and css its just javascript
@stephenfs if you saw react its actually rendering html
Stephen Suratos

Nov 10 2016 15:21

@sorinr Right.

But I was wondering more about the process of creating webpages not the existence of html/css.. I know theyre not oging anywhere.

I guess it would depend on the size or scope of a project.

Max Ho
@maxnathaniel

@sorinr Oh, yeah! Sorry, I was totally misunderstand. I did accept and allow. It brings up the alert for me. What I'm finding though, it that if I take that same concept of data access and try to apply it to show, let's say, the current temp. That's where I can't get results.

Helle people, do you guys know how can i put a backgroune music on my tribute page please
in codepen
Aiden
@AidenMead
Nov 10 2016 19:45
@neille2406 generally is repeat is used, it's referring to a background image, one that you wouldn't want to stretch but also is not big enough to cover the whole background. For example, say my background image is of a pattern, so nothing like a picture of something. And I fill the page with content and have more content to go, but my background image is only so big. I can repeat the image below the original so that when I scroll, there's enough background image to stay behind the content. Here's some more info about that http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_background-repeat.asp
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Nov 10 2016 19:45
@GitLub - yeah, there isn't an easy way just to page through everything that you've done. I like to open my freecodecamp page, and then click on a link, it opens in a new tab, and then just come back to the home page afterward. I wish that there was a "next" and "previous" link sometime to just go from item to item.

@arvkh I'd recommend using the grid system. In your row div tag include column 3, column 6, column 3. With your text inside column 6.
kat-mag
@kat-mag
Nov 10 2016 20:23
@arvkh he wasn't talking about text-justify. He was talking about text-align: justify and that's like css 2 - supported -.-
Mitch
@MitchWilkins
Nov 10 2016 20:24
All of the columns in the grid system must add up to 12. So col-md-3 is 1/4 the width of the row and col-md-6 is 1/2 the width of the row.

@koolhany padding/margin on your container. Padding on the footer, padding/margin on the image. Not set width of 100%... take your pick xD

@kat-mag are these all the potential reasons that could be stopping it from being full width?
kat-mag
@kat-mag
Nov 10 2016 20:48
@carlm7 set padding-top on body. And FIX YOUR TAGS! unclosed, mixed
@koolhany these are the reasons.
@koolhany if you go into devtools and inspect your footer... U get padding on your img, p. U go up & discover padding/margin on your container. U fix it. Then it works, kinda. Buuuut. Then you should see that the footer img is not full width, so you go and set it to 100%;
at least that's how you should debug this thing :P

@kat-mag I was going to use the indexOf to search if the temperature displayed F, and if it did, then my toggle button would convert it to C
*or celcius
and vise versa
Tyler Moeller
@TylerMoeller
Nov 10 2016 22:02
@djangoearnhardt You'll need to specify innerText to get the text inside that element:
    var convertC = Math.floor((tempF - 32) * (5 / 9));
    var convertF = tempF;
    $('.toggle').on('click', function() {
      var x = document.getElementsByClassName("temp")[0].innerText;
      if (x.indexOf('F') > -1) {
        $('.temp').html('<p>' + convertC + '&deg C</p>');
      } else {
        $('.temp').html('<p>' + tempF + '&deg F</p>');
      }
    });
And a [0] to indicate you want the first element with the class temp returned

You can also use jQuery everywhere:
    var convertC = Math.floor((tempF - 32) * (5 / 9));
    var convertF = tempF;
    $('.toggle').on('click', function() {

Yes, console.log is your friend :) tells you what variables are set to and helps for debugging

Guys, any tips/guidelines of how I should aproach this first Tribute Page project? Any extra material to follow alongside? Having a hard time figuring out how to use what I learnt in the chalenges to actually build a website.

Hmmm, preparing to build my portfolio page. I wonder if the contact form on the example actually works...
It's not a user story, so I am not sure how to handle that

@homerallen - you need a server connection to make the contact form work - although there are "free" services that you can connect to, I've heard, but also warnings that they will collect email addresses for their own purposes. I opted to just put an email contact address in my portfolio and eventually I'll worry about it being functional - I could connect it to my ISP account, I'm guessing. Just not a crucial thing at this point in time.

@adelaflor From what I can see, it seems that you don't have your divs ID'ed with your link names
@adelaflor So you're on the right track! You're basically saying "Hey, when you click here jump to this point!" but you haven't yet shown the browser where that point is. So your href's are set, but down the page you need to actually have divs tagged with an ID of home or portfolio, to show the link where it's going
@adelaflor Wait! scratch what I said, it seems that codepen just didn't let me scroll far enough

@adelaflor Okay, so once it let me actually look at the whole thing(sorry, codepen has been giving me loading issues all day), you're tagging the ID's correct, but what's happening is, when the page jumps there, it's overlapping it with the navbar. So because you have your h3 tags with the ID's, it's bringing the top edge of the page to the word that you have in the h3 tag, and the navbar is just blocking your view. Try setting the ID's the the div instead.

I’m attempting to use a zip code found from accessing an API, then adding that value into a url. From there it would run another API which would find the weather in the area of the user. Something isn’t working quite right with my idea, could anyone help out?

$(document).ready(function(){
$.getJSON('http://ipinfo.io/json?callback=JSON_CALLBACK'),function(loco){
var zip = loco.postal;
var string = JSON.stringify('http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather?zip=' + zip +',us&appid=43570f3ce225106d3f5ffafe9e44cc60')
               $.getJSON(string, function(jd) {
