Hey guys, have a question about Material Icons.. any reason it would show all the text BESIDES the stylesheet link not being included? <link href="http://fonts.googleapis.com/icon?family=Material+Icons" rel="stylesheet">

Link was included, but customer sent me a screenshot where icons were showing as text. Only "issue" was I had used an icon called "copy" which on any other computer I have was just not displaying (it should've been content_copy). Even from a CSS standpoint it seems like that would not be an issue. Help? :/

@wendi413 hey, im not sure i understand, thats a font your trying to use correct? and it must be a font full of icons. and they are not showing up

Yes I was using Materialize icons.. icons have always worked. This one-off issue a customer sent that screenshot today. I can't think of any reason it would look so broken unless he just didn't download the font. The link was included, so may have been an internet issue on his end? Using Materialize icons, here's all that's included in the HTML.. <div class="prezEdit displayInline" data-widget="2719">
<i class="small material-icons">create</i>
</div>Here's what it normally looks like for reference:
blob
Only issue I thought could possibly have broken it was that I previously used "copy" icon (which is not defined, it should be "content copy") I can't for the life of my figure out why that would cause an issue site-wide though. I'm pretty convinced it was an issue with the font not being downloaded? But curious if anyone else had input as I can't find anything similar anywhere else :)

hey guys, I'm having trouble with React. first of all, is there a straightforward way to use it on your system? for now I'm using CDNs and it works fine, but I'd rather have it installed on my stystem. second, this code isn't doing anything:
var ChildComponent = React.createClass({
  onClick: function(){
    alert('tadag'
  },

  render() {
    return (
      <div>
        <div className="prompt">Add a click handler to this button so that when clicked, performMagic is called in the parent component.</div>
        <button onclick={this.onClick}>Do Magic</button>
      </div>
    );
  }

});
sorry I left the typo in there. the alert has a closing parentheses and semi-colon in my code

Hi everyone, I'm currently on my twitch.tv app and I'm having troubles adding status aka "offline" and "online". I know what api adress I need to use and to get hold of the status but just don't know how to add it in. Hope that makes sense.

Franco Rufo
@francorufo
Dec 07 2016 05:03
@Manish-Giri yes I understand that part but where would I add that in. After adding that code I would have to add for example .html("offline") and .html("online") depending on if stream === null, but I have already declared the html. Is there a way for me to just add a small piece of text like "offline"? I understand if this question is a bit hmmmm xD
@Bazill03 http://ipinfo.io/ to get longitude and latitude then the recommended api: https://openweathermap.org/current#geo
Zachary
@Bazill03
Dec 07 2016 05:09
@francorufo You know, the problem I ran into with ipinfo.io is that it didn't accept HTTPS requests while chrome requires HTTPS for location requests.
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Dec 07 2016 05:09
@francorufo yeah, you can just do + "offline" or + "online" as the case maybe, like
$(".lost").append("<li><img src='https://www.megazine3.de/wp-content/plugins/sgmbPro//img/no-image.png'><a href='" + data2.url + "' target='_blank'>" + data2.display_name + " online "+"</a></li>"

Zachary

@CalcCalcCalc In chrome you can right click that page and select inspect.
@ssgriffen This is difficult for me to explain but you need to set a variable that pushes your data variable. Like this: var post = data.shift();
Sorry, shifts your data variable.

Now problem is when you scroll the page, The normal text can be scrolled without any problem keeping navbar fixed at top , but when Bootstrap panel scrolls , it tops over the Navbar. Why it is so ? What's the reason ?

Dec 07 2016 13:42
@oppiniated hey can you tell what should i use instead of br
Farhan
@farhansRepo
Dec 07 2016 13:45
you could target a div element if you wish, i don't know if it's of use but you could give a div element an id. Then write css to target that id
Alexander Domikov
@AlexanderDom
Dec 07 2016 13:47
@uajkhan you forgot to add a dot for your class name
in css tab you need to put .top-text{ instead of top-text{
Clyde Lobo
@oppiniated
Dec 07 2016 13:48
@uajkhan You should not use br to create space or add margin. It can be done using css. Try to avoid it as much as possible. Plus it adds no semantic to the page
Alexander Domikov
@AlexanderDom
Dec 07 2016 13:49
without dot it's like you targeting an element named <top-text></top-text>
Charan Teja
@charan1922
Dec 07 2016 13:50
@uajkhan have u tried margin-bottom, try it with different values
Farhan
@farhansRepo
Dec 07 2016 13:50
#id {
  margin-top: 60px;
  margin-bottom: 60px;
}
Alexander Domikov
@AlexanderDom
Dec 07 2016 13:50
@uajkhan <br> is used in paragraphs normally to set a new line, like <p>My text<br>New line</p>
so you can create a css class if you think you gonna use same amount of margin on other bloc instead of id, because of restriction of id
Farhan
@farhansRepo
Dec 07 2016 13:53
true
you can use a class for multiple uses and try keep it consistent or use id to solve a single problem

@AlexanderDom the lists below the image are not centered properly
how can i centre both columns and make them occupy just a small space in between
@AlexanderDom The pros seems to be aligned but the cons aren't
Alexander Domikov
@AlexanderDom
Dec 07 2016 14:08
so for start, @uajkhan <ul> by default has padding-left
you can add padding-left: 0
Uzair Ali
@uajkhan
Dec 07 2016 14:09
@AlexanderDom how do I do it ?>
Alexander Domikov
@AlexanderDom
Dec 07 2016 14:10
ul { padding-left: 0; } or add class for exemple list-unstyled or i think bootstrap has they own and then .list-unstyled { padding-left: 0; }.
What you mean by "make them occupy just a small space in between" ?
yes you can add list-unstyled class to your ul, but it gonna remove dots too
Uzair Ali
@uajkhan
Dec 07 2016 14:12
like they should be centered
the dots should start just before the text

  height: .2em; /* based on font-size of text */

  background-color: currentColor; /*same color than text*/
  margin-right: 1em; /*margin from text*/

@Exellin The hash # in front of the name denotes an in-page anchor, if you are linking to an anchor on another page, it would be /otherpage.html#projects

Abhishek Kumar
@Mr-Kumar-Abhishek
Dec 07 2016 18:04
@Exellin, you might have to make a url for getting a request to get url and make js/query function which reads that and then performs what you are looking for.... however by default you will not need any js to scroll to any page to its inpage anchor.... I might look on how similar pages are made to get a proper idea of what you are talking about
Tyler Moeller
@TylerMoeller
Dec 07 2016 18:05
@gonzalezi2 I can try, there's also a wiki with some hints here: https://github.com/FreeCodeCamp/FreeCodeCamp/wiki/Algorithm-Make-A-Person

Dec 07 2016 18:07

var Person = function(firstAndLast) {
  var arr = firstAndLast.split(" ");
  this.getFirstName =function(){
      var firstName = arr[0];
      return firstName;
    };
  this.getLastName = function(){
      var lastName = arr[1];
      return lastName;
    };
  this.getFullName = function(){
      return arr.join(" ");
    };
  this.setFirstName = function(first){
      arr[0] = first;
      console.log(arr[0]);
    };
   this.setLastName = function(last){
      arr[1] = last;
     console.log(arr[1]);
    };
   this.setFullName = function(firstAndLast){
      firstAndLast = firstAndLast;
     console.log(firstAndLast);
    };
};
this.bob = new Person('Bob Ross');
I have this. I'm checking off most of the solutions but having problem with the set keys
I'm guessing it has to do with the variables not changing properly when I set a new name

Dec 07 2016 18:10
@TylerMoeller take your time. I've been staring at this for awhile now and can't seem to make sense of what's going on. The only ones I'm not checking off are the bob.setFullName(firstAndLast); so I have a suspicion I might need to change the way I get the first and last name from it. Maybe an array isn't the best option? But then again, idk what would be better

I get an error that bob is not defined in my console, last line should be var bob = new Person('Bob Ross'); to address that. I'm also not seeing what you're doing with the array
I suppose that's to handle the data you .split(' ')
Ivan
@gonzalezi2

Dec 07 2016 18:20
@Mr-Kumar-Abhishek I just got it to work. Well at least for it to scroll if you are on the page and to go directly if you are off the page. Going to a page and then scrolling might also be too much so I think this functionality is fine. https://gist.github.com/Exellin/bcf6b6f1e66ac72d0d69936d76e43859

@shivanksharma91 Thats... about 150%?
Zachary
@Bazill03
Dec 07 2016 21:38
@shivanksharma91 As far as I know there is only 100% height.
Though now I'm wondering if 100% refers to 100% of the total page or 100% of what's viewable at one time.

@francorufo It would need to be d.content. d just refers to the entire output from the api.

Yes ofc im just trying to add a color to letter if it gets wrong, without having to submit it
Also is there a way to add +1 so computer doesnt count from 0
and 3rd thing, i want to add If function, so if someone types something thats not a number its going to show an error
but can Javascript work in jquery function :O Coz answer.isNan() is not working
Zachary
@Bazill03
Dec 07 2016 22:36

need to check if account is closed

doesn't have to look exactly like that or be about the same person

its not the whole thing just the first condition
@coymeetsworld
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Dec 07 2016 22:54
i know
but thats not how you check for closed accounts
alpox
@alpox
Dec 07 2016 22:54
@coymeetsworld If a 404 status comes back from the ajax callback it doesn't enter the success callback, which you provide there. In this case, the fail callback gets fired, which you don't handle
tommy
@tommygebru
Dec 07 2016 22:54
oh how do you check?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Dec 07 2016 22:54
check the documentation :)
tommy
@tommygebru
Dec 07 2016 22:54
so I have to create the fail() callback?
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Dec 07 2016 22:55
no
alpox
@alpox
Dec 07 2016 22:55
@coymeetsworld no? As far as I know it is called like that.
@tommygebru Should be on the lines of:
$.getJSON(url, successCallback)
    .fail(failCallback);
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Dec 07 2016 22:56
but that is not the right answer to the question
the issue isn't whether or not there is a fail condition on the API call
its when the API call succeeds, there is no check to find a closed account that I can see
that is not what you would consider a failure
since the API does return data in those cases
alpox
@alpox
Dec 07 2016 22:58
@coymeetsworld As far as i remember, twitch didn't return any data for closed accounts. It threw a 404 or similar.
