does anybody know how to access this while looping in React?
class EditBox extends React.Component {
  submit(event){
    var ingredients = [];
    for(var i = 0; i < document.querySelectorAll('input').length; i++){
      ingredients.push(document.querySelectorAll('input')[i].value);
    }
    this.props.recipe.ingredients = ingredients;
    ReactDOM.render(<Recipe recipe={this.props.recipe} />, document.querySelector('#box'));
  }

  add(){
    this.props.recipe.ingredients.push('');
    ReactDOM.render(<EditBox recipe={this.props.recipe} />, document.querySelector('#box'));
  }

  remove(){
    alert('hello');
  }

  render() {
    return (
      <div className='edit'>
        <i className='icon-check form' onClick={this.submit.bind(this)}></i>
        <i className='icon-plus' onClick={this.add.bind(this)}></i>
        <div className='name'>{this.props.recipe.name}</div>
        <div className='ingredients'>
          {this.props.recipe.ingredients.map(function(ingredient, index){
            return (
              <div className='edit_field row' key={index}>

@ssgriffen You are hitting a CORS issue - check your browser's dev console for the error. Here are some solutions to consider: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23952045/wikipedia-api-cross-origin-requests
@MerrylArok It runs fine for me. On my phone, I have to have location enabled in my privacy settings for it to work. You could fall back to a less accurate IP-based location available with your Weather API, replace + latitude + "," + longitude + ".json" with autoip.json in your API URL

hi
I've been having issues adding buttons to my website
so far this is my code-
<button type="button">About Me</button>
and I have this in my CSS - button {
position: absolute; Top: 5px; Left: 900px;
background-color: grey;
border-color: black;
border-width: 10px;
}
but I don't know how to add more buttons
everytime I try with the same style, <button type etc etc it simply overlays it on top of the "About Me" button that exists
Arin
@arinarjani
Dec 22 2016 06:05
@aviyanca might be because you have position absolute. Try position relative
See, position absolute says, "forget what is there, I am going on top". Position relative says, "oh, you were there first, let me go here and stay out of your way"
Also, having type="button" for a <button> tag is redundant
As it is already a button due to the tag. Doing that is for <input type="button">
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Dec 22 2016 06:14
you may want to try using links instead of buttons too @aviyanca
with a button its a little harder to use for navigation, you have to code a little more to get it working
iigmir
@iigmir
Dec 22 2016 06:19
@aviyanca If I were you, I will use float:right; with margin-left:10px; to do multiple button, instead of position: absolute;.
Another method I usually use is make a <ul> list with display:inline-block;, then styling <li>.

I need to build a script that monitor website , scan it every 1-2 secounds and if you locate specific place on website that you want to track and something change there you get notification sent to mail.
But there is a problem because you dont know when change on website will happend so you need to refresh website all the time also once you got the information you need to prevent script to send that information again on mail to prevent your self from spamming your mail box with your own script this is what i need so far but its like 1/6 of stuff that need to be made so if is somebody interested in chat me and we can make a deal

@dp - check that your callback code is being fired... for me... that weather API does not work in Codepen! If you change it to say 'Yahoo' it works (well, you would need to rewrite things heh).

just stick a console.log in the getJSON and notice it never gets fired suggesting its failing before it even starts.

@dertiuss323
  • Find a python script for webscraping
  • Grab value based on class/id
  • Store it along with last time changed/emailed (if applicable)
  • Then check every n seconds
  • If change detected (vs stored value), send email mark as sent/updated
    Repeat.

Hey guys, i need help with the Falsy Bouncer Algorithm Challenge. So I understand why the correct answer works, but I’m not sure why my original attempt doesn’t work…

```
function bouncer(arr) {
  // Don't show a false ID to this bouncer.
  return arr.filter (function(val){
    return val != (false | null | 0 | "" | undefined | NaN);
  });
}
bouncer([false, null, 0, NaN, undefined, ""]);
function bouncer(arr) {
  // Don't show a false ID to this bouncer.
  return arr.filter (Boolean);
}
bouncer([false, null, 0, NaN, undefined, ""]);
the first is my first attempt and the second is my last (correct attempt)
Adi2Point0
@Adi2Point0
Dec 22 2016 12:40
@jayisray : You're better off doing return arr.filter (x => x);
no need to typecast into Boolean explicitly
it's just additional unnecessary operation
jayisray
@jayisray
Dec 22 2016 12:41
@Adi2Point0 what does x => x do
Also, why does the first attempt not work?
Adi2Point0
@Adi2Point0
Dec 22 2016 12:41
it is equivalent to
return arr.filter(function(x){
  return x;
});
@jayisray becuase you have NaN
so your function will not filter NaN value
For the seek and destroy challenge, why doesn’t the provided code work? seems to me like it should lol
function destroyer(arr) {
  return arr.filter (checker);
}
function checker(val){
  var temp = arguments.length;
  for (var i = 1; i < temp; i ++)
    {
      if (arguments[i] === val)
        return false;
    }
  return true;
}
Can someone please help me with the Seek and Destroy challenge?
Fabio Di Pane
@saylos
Dec 22 2016 13:43
@jayisray first of all, if you 'return' something, it will escape the for loop
jayisray
@jayisray
Dec 22 2016 13:44
@saylos Thats’s a good thing lol isn’t it? it’s returning false if it hits a number that qualifies
the number can’t be two things at once so there wouldn’t be a point in checking the next option
for example, if arguments[i] == 2 and val ==2 it should return false which the method does
you wouldn’t bother to check if value is 3 if u already know it’s two lol
Fabio Di Pane
@saylos
Dec 22 2016 13:45
@jayisray yep..it it will exit the loop execution, so it will not check the next number
jayisray
@jayisray
Dec 22 2016 13:46
isn’t that the point?
filter goes thru the entire array tho
so it does that process for each number
or am i totally missing something here
Fabio Di Pane
@saylos
Dec 22 2016 13:46
nop..in the end you should have a new arr "cleaned"
jayisray
Dec 22 2016 13:47
yea, so my question is why the code doesn’t work for the task
Fabio Di Pane
you will understand better how it works
the problem isnt with the checker its with destroyer
@Rallph you are on the rite track try breaking it down one step at a time. I did a console.log for each step until I got the data I wanted. Try it and see what is returned. you might need text[0] for array or text.something for an object. I needed a combination like text.something.somethingelse[0].
@zhaza The point is to get you to go out and do some research and reading. You have been taught everything you need to go through the docs for Bootstrap or other CSS frameworks, and that ability to find the information you need is the most important part of development. Everything can't be spoon-fed
@dentamme It's helpful to start here: http://getbootstrap.com/components/ and spend a couple of hours on it.
Go through that page from top to bottom, copy/paste the code into codepen and see what it does. Get familiar with what everything is called.
After that, start learning how to customize it here: http://getbootstrap.com/css/
The lessons at Free Code Camp give you the basic vocabulary so you can start learning how to do it on your own
When do you think i should do the portfolio page?
Because it would require some JavaScript and i have yet to learn it
Patrick
@SweetmanTech
Dec 22 2016 21:44
@WVKING20 I did the portfolio project before learning javascript. For me, I think it was good to practice setting up the basic webpage before adding javascript
I am getting started with the Random Quote project. Here is my code: http://codepen.io/SweetTech/pen/zoXpvV?editors=0010
This is my first time working with JavaScript and I am just trying to use a button to switch my text to have a better understanding. For some reason this JavaScript code (used in Trigger Click Events with jQuery lesson) does not work. Does anyone have recommendations?
I need help with JavaScript in my Random Quote Generator. I am trying to chang etext on button click: http://codepen.io/SweetTech/pen/zoXpvV?editors=0010
Dec 22 2016 22:55
hi guys
hope you all doing welll.
need some help ...
in having a full background image .....
my code looks like this:.pageOne{
background:url("http://www.platsak.co.za/vodacom/background.jpg") no-repeat center center;
background-size: cover;
width:100%;
hiht:100%;
need to have this background in the all page...
@TylerMoeller
Dec 22 2016 23:00
@WVKING20 Any element can have a background color, so to make multiple background colors in a page, create multiple elements and assign a background color to each.
For example. here there are 10 different sections, each with a different shade of blue. Look at the CSS to see how the backgrounds are applied: https://s.codepen.io/TylerMoeller/pen/xRagVr
@ingundela If you want it for the whole page, apply the CSS to body instead of .pageOne.
@TylerMoeller this is how my body looks: body{
background-color:white;
font-family:vodafone;
color:black;
background:cover;
}
what should I add?
Tyler Moeller
@TylerMoeller
Dec 22 2016 23:04
Change it to:
body {
  background: url("http://www.platsak.co.za/vodacom/background.jpg") no-repeat center center;
  background-size: cover;
  color: black;
  font-family: vodafone;
}
And remove your settings for .pageOne
Add a height property to control how tall your body is, for example:
body {
  background: url("http://www.platsak.co.za/vodacom/background.jpg") no-repeat center center;
  background-size: cover;
  color: black;
  font-family: vodafone;
  height: 100vh;
}
@ingundela Since those are links, you need to use the .nav-pills a selector.
