I'm having two issues with the layout of my weather app 1) the white space around the bottom and right edges @) I can't figure out how to align the weekdays with the column of 5 red boxes underneath it so they're both side my side....I'm taking a mobile first approach so you need to view it in the dev console using the phone screen sizes
https://lettda.github.io/WeatherWiz/
@Halfcreative I recommend using the Darksky weather API instead as I had issues with the open weather API. Also I believe your issue is also one I had with cross-origin request
It doesn't come with icons like the open weather, but that means yu have to be more creative

@chaddd980 only things different from mine are your button and i store the url in a variable instead
$(document).ready(function() {

    $(".btn-primary").click(function() {
        var searchTerm = $("#subjectSearch").val();
        var url = "https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=opensearch&search=" + searchTerm +"&format=json&callback=?";

    $.ajax( {
        url: url,
        async: false,
        dataType: 'json',
        headers: { 'Api-User-Agent': 'Example/1.0' },
        type: 'GET',
            success: function(data) {

                   for (var i = 0; i < data[1].length; i++) {
                       $("#output").prepend("<li class=" + article+ ">" +"<a href= "+ data[3][i]+"+>" +data[1][i] +"</a><p>"+data[2][i]+"</p></li>") //Prepend Article information to HTML list (Article link as hyperlink connected to Article header, Article summary follow underneath )
                       $("#searchUi").fadeOut("slow",function(){

                       });
                   }
            },
            error: function(errorMsg) {

John Nunns
@johnnunns
Jan 05 2017 03:34
Not even sure to start really, this was one of those examples where it's very easy before and then tosses you onto the deep end kind of problem
I understand the basic for loop

haha I hope!
Krikor Ailanjian

you want to multiply everything in the array with product
the sample code prints everything in the array
John Nunns
@johnnunns
Jan 05 2017 03:36
I was confused by the usage of j variable
I tried punching that code in to see what it would print but apparently it won't run

when you print to console it will show up in your browsers console
hit F12 and you will see the inspector and if you open the browsers console you can see the results
I will give you a hint on the challenge that is hopefully helpful
John Nunns

I press f12 and am just taken to the html of the site
Krikor Ailanjian
@kailanjian

to solve you can use the loops from the sample and just change the line within the loops
are you using chrome?

its just like other certs where people cram like CompTIA or Cisco
so what if you got it, or a degree or whatever if you don't know anything?
its nice to have don't get me wrong, if you didn't it honestly it shows you completed something
but what really matters is if you know how to code, the portfolio you end up building can also help you get a job too
Krikor Ailanjian
@kailanjian

nope, and N/A as I haven't been looking for another job

got a part-time job as a test/dev my last year though
Krikor Ailanjian
@kailanjian
Jan 05 2017 06:05
yeah from what i understand you need to get a job/internship in college because to have a chance anywhere you need some kind of experience
Coy Sanders
@coymeetsworld
Jan 05 2017 06:05
but since you likely don't have much experience then you have to rely on your grades/courses to stand out, or doing things on the side like FCC :)
it'll be easier thats for sure, some companies don't want anyone with no experience
not sure how things would've turned out if I was doing a curriculum like this on top of my schoolwork, idk if i could've handled both

Krikor Ailanjian
@kailanjian
Jan 05 2017 07:15
so when you format it it looks like this
and you just access it like you would an object you created it yourself
so if you want the temp, you can do jsondata.main.temp

@Ash1108 The best I can think of, honestly, would change the entirety in size of the font. and it would be in CSS as:
h2{
font-size: 200%;
}
That's just off the top of my head. Otherwise I would have to figure some searching.
Ashwini Sridhar
@Ash1108

Tiani Ball
@Tiani91
Jan 05 2017 12:12
From what I found, you'd have to use line-height, as well as a margin, border and padding. Here's a link: http://jaketrent.com/post/css-text-vertical-height/ I also found more on line-height here: http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_dim_line-height.asp
it honestly sounds like a lot more work, but you might be able to achieve what you're after by doing it this way, no guarantees... other places I looked said there was no way to do it. -shrugs- Hope it helps.

@Schastye82 hello nicole, i saw your portofolio page and that's great page you have there. i think i can help you to make your navbar clickable and jump to the section of your portofolio for example.

first, you should add id in your portofolio like this one

then you put #id to <a> tag in navigation

@allenlswain Is it the two seperate paragraphs you're refering to?

yeah
the example project has them lined up to the left of the photo, and not above or below it
Jason Luboff

Nitin Chandran Nair

Jan 05 2017 16:27
@jdb409 You might want to restructure your code. Call the "streams" url first and get the channel status. If the status is 404 then channel does not exist. If status is not 404 then call the "channels" url and get the data. Also try using the "forEach" loop instead of "for". Check mine for reference - http://codepen.io/Nitin-Chandran-Nair/pen/RROzvg?editors=0010

@allenlswain You can use <p> tags, it creates a space between paragraphs For example:
<p> This is on line one</p> <p> This would be on line two </p>
@allenlswain Or, <br> will provide a break.

@WebCodeNinja So, either you'll need to find a different API that allows you to use Https (which technically openweather allows, but you have to pay for it) or use a different method to get Geolocation, such as IP based. I didn't like IP based as it was inaccurate

you can inspect by right-clicking a webside background or highlighting a word and right-clicking :fire:

@urketadic You have your holder1 and holder2 inside the if block. Variables created in an if or else are locally scoped to that block. Because of that you can't clear them from the else.
You need to declare the vars above the if/else and then set them in the if.
var holder1, holder2;

if (  ) {
  holder1 = setTimeout...
} else {
  clearTimeout(holder1);
}
Uros Tadic

@zarruk you need to add values to your buttons for + - = etc. Then try this code in your function.
$(".boton").click(function(){
    if (this.value === "="){
      a = eval(a);
    } else {
  a += this.value;
    }
    $(".pantalla").html(a);

    matrixreset();

Hello, Everyone :)
I'm working on a Simons game and I have a question: do you know if it is possible to assign pseudo-class to an element with Jquery?

I have a condintion for " :active " state of an element as follows:
.yellow-button:active {
background-color: rgb(255, 254, 172);
}

And generally, I want a button to be active (of right collor) when function executes.

Do you know how to do it?

I'm trying to make a simple sidebar for my project and I have a little problem. It seems like when I set the width to auto, the transition stops working and I don't know why. Please have a look a deleted all the styling, there are only 30 lines of code now.

@kbaig You can't load a page through https and then request content through http. It will throw a 'Mixed Content' error. Since you can't use the navigator without https anymore, you'll either need to load codepen through http and use an IP location api, or use a different api for weather. https://www.apixu.com/doc/getting-started.aspx is good and let's you use http and https.

Jan 05 2017 22:15
@jdtdesigns I'm at the point in my project where I can get each button to flash in sequence. The next challenge is that I'd like the puzzle to pause after one flash, two flashes, three flashes, etc., just like what you would see in the simon game.
Does my question make sense?
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Jan 05 2017 22:20
@mdbailin The basic concept is when start is clicked you fire the first button in the sequence and then if there is another, run a setTimeout with a delay to show the next button. Then when the sequence array has been gone through, you fire an event listener to get the user clicks.
You'll need a userSequence to check each click. You can check if each button press matches each button index in the sequence array.
You can easily get indexes of elements with .eq()
Matthew Bailin
@mdbailin
Jan 05 2017 22:26
@jdtdesigns That sounds really useful for when I begin work on user input
But do you know where I should look to get a pause after each round?
e.g round 1: one button flash, round 2: first button flash, then the next new button, etc.
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Jan 05 2017 22:28
@mdbailin You need some sort of buildSequence function that adds to the sequence and then fires playSequence. After the sequence is played using setTimeouts, you fire the click listener.
the round would increase once the user passes the sequence match
Everything works together with this one
Matthew Bailin
@mdbailin
Jan 05 2017 22:30
@jdtdesigns So in other words, fn buildsequence would fire on a successful click(s)
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Jan 05 2017 22:30
correct
when the game starts and after the user passes check

add one to the puzzle, then play the puzzle back, then listen for user clicks
JD Tadlock

hey guys, i have a question about removing pointer events/clicks on inputs once a selection has been clicked... how would i deselect allll options on click, currently my code deselects the input for "the" selected input
const modeInputs = document.querySelectorAll('input[name="mode"]')
        .forEach(input => input.addEventListener('click', (e) => {
          let gameMode = e.target.id;
          store.dispatch({ type: "TOGGLE_GAMEMODE" });
          input.disabled = true;
          console.log(input.nextElementSibling);

hm, it's ok, i wrapped the inputs in a div and disabled the div

@JackEdwardLyons Welcome! If you wanted to remove all the listeners and disable the buttons, you could just loop through the buttons inside the buttonEvent function and removeEventListener and set disabled to true. You could fire whatever action like start() for example inside that function after the for loop is done. ;)

Is there a quick way to clone a codepen project so I can take a secondary approach to a design without overwriting what I already have?

@CoryCMyers Simply hit the 'fork' button
@sbxn14 It looks like you were already on the right track
ul.navbar-nav a.nav-option {
  font-size: 20px;
  color: orange;
}

@sbxn14 Do you mean all the time or just on mouse over? cause Hover is one of my favorite things.

var kids = document.getElementById("stuff").children; document.getElementbyId("demo").innerHTML = kids;

Why doesn't this print kids to the element with the Id Demo in my codepen? How do you print javascript variables to your HTML document in codepen?

@Jinnd319 .children outputs object so its not printing in your id. You can use console and do console.log(kids) to find what variable contains

So does console.log() only print objects? Vars aren't automatically objects in javascript right?

var target = $(this.getAttribute('href')); console.log(target);

Why isn't this working in codepen?
