@JJcreated It looks like you are trying to call wikipedia every time someone presses a key in the search box. Try to make the search happen when they press enter or hit the search button instead.
You might start by practicing with a basic <input> inside a <form> to see if you can enter something in the text field, press enter, and get it to display on the page.

Hey guys!! I have been stuck on this one problem for hours and I feel so frustrated. If you scroll down to the "connect with Slack" portion, I can't make the button that says "Intergrate with your Slack now" to align with the text. @Dthompsondavis likewise with the html, ...each level deeper you go should be one more tab over
img tags are self closing
Danielle Thompson-Davis
@Dthompsondavis
Feb 08 2017 02:59
@moT01 so like in the order it occurs on the page?
Tom

Feb 08 2017 03:01
Hi @Dthompsondavis I will suggest stylinbg with css. I have some suggestions I will send you in a few minutes
Tom
@moT01
Feb 08 2017 03:01
the order isn't as important, ...it is, and i try to put it in order (the css we're talking about i think) but you can't always keep it in perfect order
<img src="url">
that's it
other tags have a start and finish
<div> </div>
Danielle Thompson-Davis
@Dthompsondavis
Feb 08 2017 03:01
got it
so from the earlier lessons, it seemed to do it for you, but I have to indent for subsequent lines then?
Tom
@moT01
Feb 08 2017 03:03
helps to look at examples of other code, ...i know they say not to in the project description, but i think that's bs
css indentation looks like i showed with the changes i made
html each layer deeper you go needs another tab....
<div layer1>
      <div layer2>
      </div
      <div layer2>
      </div>
</div>
@tadm123 its really close
its all working, its just getting the same object over and over
tadm123
@tadm123
Feb 08 2017 03:08
How would I get a new json object?
I thought the API did it automatically
Tom
@moT01
Feb 08 2017 03:10
yea, that's the one i used, ...i think i had the same problem, and i think i fixed it by using a cache: false option with my .ajax

@SkyCoder01 ofc. if you want to override some of the bootstrap implicit classes you will have to create a class of your own be it no-padding but you will have to always use the precedence rule like: <div class="no-padding row"> will not be the same as <div class="row no-padding"> in the bootstrap context. hope u get what i mean

@sorinr I can't find any cases where what you said is true. The order of class attribute values does not matter unless you are explicitly looking for [class$="class1 class2"] in your CSS, or if one class loads later than the other in CSS. In the case of overriding bootstrap, my custom no-padding class will always load after bootstrap, so order should not matter.

@Balance17 maybe try
var status = (number == number);
Philip
@Balance17
Feb 08 2017 04:36

@RetartedZombie I figured it out. I set up the initial variable as

var status;

hence, it became a string after the comparison. I corrected it by have it var status = true;

@ermarie you're missing a value from the border property, check the documentation or search google for how to add a border in CSS and see what you're missing.
This is not how you change the font color. Also, search google for how to change font color in CSS ;)

@Elendien If it's from an API call, you need to pass the JSON object to another function.

  otherFunction(json);
})

function otherFunction(json) {
  console.log(json);

@volkranium That's a lot of code :) I was expecting a <div> and a <p> :)
overflow: hidden will hide the overflow, but you shouldn't be seeing any overflow in the first place, so it's likely a coding error or CSS conflict.

I like the icons and the colors, just can't get all the text to show up - trying to see what might be wrong. There are a few bugs :)
For example: <div class="container-fluid container"> choose one or the other, but not both. And inside of that <div> you can't have another container or container fluid.

Similarly, in your CSS:

.container {
  width: 100%;
  padding: 0;
}

If you want a full-width container, just use the container-fluid class.

@FreakishLancer Codepen started adding bootstrap v4 with the quick add menu, you might make sure which version you're using and then adjust classes as needed
@aadeyemi88 Remove the padding from the image, that will only push the content away from the image. http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_boxmodel.asp

@TylerMoeller maybe i used the wrong wording...there is no padding on the image
Tyler Moeller
@TylerMoeller
Feb 08 2017 18:03
@FreakishLancer Since you're trying out flex, maybe check out this codepen: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/pvGmeO
@aadeyemi88 I used the wrong wording, sorry ;) I meant border
.polaroid img {
  border: 10px solid #fff;
  border-bottom: 45px solid #fff;
  -webkit-box-shadow: 3px 3px 3px #777;
     -moz-box-shadow: 3px 3px 3px #777;
          box-shadow: 3px 3px 3px #777;
}
make the css above only apply to the outer div
.polaroid {
  border: 10px solid #fff;
  border-bottom: 45px solid #fff;
  -webkit-box-shadow: 3px 3px 3px #777;
     -moz-box-shadow: 3px 3px 3px #777;
          box-shadow: 3px 3px 3px #777;
}
Then you can use the .caption class to change the background color to match and adjust the top margin

@tstusr441 The twitter widget code is loading after your ajax call runs, so it's overwriting the href value you set. You'll have to remove your <script> tag from your HTML and embed it in your ajax success function instead:
      success: function(data) {
        var s = document.createElement("script");
        s.charset = "utf-8";
        s.src = "//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";

I have a question about redundancy of rules in CSS. Do you guys prefer writing out rules like,

a,
button {
    color: white;
}

or,

.white-text {
    color: white;
}

then applying that class to the elements that need it?

Mandeep Singh

@SkyCoder01 using margin top and margin bottom in each heading and paragraph will be too much. is using row class ok ?
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Feb 08 2017 19:09
@MandeepMann The row class doesn't create any vertical spacing
.row {
  display: -webkit-box;

  display: -ms-flexbox;
  display: flex;
  -webkit-flex-wrap: wrap;
      -ms-flex-wrap: wrap;
          flex-wrap: wrap;
  margin-right: -15px;
  margin-left: -15px;

Hi, i'm after some help with my portfolio project. I have only made a basic navbar so far but everytime i add position:fixed the navbar halves in size. Can anybody tell me why?
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Feb 08 2017 20:57
@joopt You're trying to access curCity outside of both the getJSON and the logTheData function. getJSON is asynchronous. It has to go out that API, get the data, come back, and then it finally has the data.
So...everything has to happen inside the getJSON function(data), that's called a callback function.
$.getJSON('http://ipinfo.io', function(data) {
  logTheData(data);
});

function logTheData(data) {
  curCity = data.city;
  console.log(curCity);
}
or:
$.getJSON('http://ipinfo.io', logTheData)

function logTheData(data) {
  curCity = data.city;
  console.log(curCity);
}
or:
$.getJSON('http://ipinfo.io', function(data) {
  curCity = data.city;
  console.log(curCity);
});
joopt
@joopt

@SkyCoder01 So I can't use the data outside of the callback function?
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Feb 08 2017 20:59
but not:
var curCity;
$.getJSON('http://ipinfo.io', function(data) {
  curCity = data.city;
});
  console.log(curCity);
@joopt Correct, you have to use it inside the callback function or pass the data to another function like in the first two examples above
joopt
@joopt
Feb 08 2017 21:00
I'm trying to change the url of the api call based on the users city and country

but I cant do it without being able to use the data outside the callback :S
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Feb 08 2017 21:03
@joopt Then you want to do it like this:
$.getJSON('http://ipinfo.io', function(data) {
  getTheWeather(data);
});

function getTheWeather(locationData) {
  // build your URL and call the weather api
}
Inside the getTheWeather function, you'll have all the location data you need, like latitude, longitude, city name
joopt
@joopt
Feb 08 2017 21:11
$.getJSON('http://ipinfo.io', function(data){

@lclc68lclc the solution is to redefine the URL with some randomness inside click handler of button like this

$("#getQuote").on("click", function(e){
    urlApi = "https://quotesondesign.com/wp-json/posts?filter[orderby]=rand&filter[posts_per_page]=1&callback="+Math.floor(Math.random() * 101);
    $.getJSON(urlApi, function(data){
    var post  = data[0];
      console.log(post);
  $("#message").empty().append(post.content + "<p>— " + post.title + "</p>");
      });
  });

Math.floor(Math.random() * 101); this creates randomness for every btn click in URL

@paulmichaelxd It's some magic I just learned about. Something to do with JSONP, it takes your request, embeds it locally on your page to work around issues with requesting the data from another server. I'm probably not the best person to ask, but it works :)

if stream is null then you have to make another req to https://wind-bow.gomix.me/twitch-api/users/freecodecamp

@mustimuu probably because you are using bootstrap4 and the center-block class doesn't exist in bootstrap4

@mustimuu Not sure if this applies, but also you have to apply center-block to the img itself, as opposed to its parent div. Whereas with text-center you usually put that within the element containing any text.
