@Karumba15 i tend not to use navbars from bootstrap but make my own, i use a few of their styling, so right now im try to see why ur nav bar wraps when u minimize
Vinicius Otacilio
@Karumba15
Apr 19 2017 00:53
@Pagnito the only way i know to do navbars is with bootstrap... how you do yours?
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 00:54
@Karumba15 its kind of a long explanation, but its pretty easy, just make the same list as they did, with ul list
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Apr 19 2017 00:54
Honestly I have no idea what navbars is
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 00:54
then in css, say #nav { li display:inline block}
if ur ul id is nav
Vinicius Otacilio
@Karumba15
Apr 19 2017 00:55
@Pagnito hmm understand... but with bootstrap dont get easier to made and be responsive?
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 00:55
then u can style it howeer u want
yea i wouldnt say its easier when u dont know simple html yet
Vinicius Otacilio
@Karumba15
Apr 19 2017 00:56
@Pagnito hmm i think very easy to made with bootstrap
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 00:56
its like liftting heavy shit with skinny arms with camfortable grip, for ppl who are somewhat trained, find it easier to use, but if u not trained in the simple shit, its still to heavy for u
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Apr 19 2017 00:56

Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 01:00

@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 01:56
@alfredim88 i tihnk u might be able to use slice method
string.slice(0,3) and string.slice(-4)
u have to make a variable for the new string
@MathematicsCoding i thought it showed
?
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Apr 19 2017 01:59
no it didnt
for me
oh its because of JSON.stringify

@MathematicsCoding
Apr 19 2017 02:03
How would img show up?
So img element need channel class?
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 02:03
not really
its a string
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Apr 19 2017 02:03
hm..
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 02:03
that u html() into the DOM
so u say
$('.channel').html('<img src="data.logo"/>')
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Apr 19 2017 02:04
...
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 02:05
and it prints that into ur DOM and the interperter proceses it
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Apr 19 2017 02:05
So I dont need img element in html?
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 02:05
nah
Saboor Malik
@MathematicsCoding
Apr 19 2017 02:05

Apr 19 2017 02:19

@MathematicsCoding Set the class name on the image:

        $(".channel").html(
          '<img class="profile-pic" src="'+data.logo+'">'
        );

Then use .profile-pic in your CSS (or use a different class name). Don't forget the alt="" in your <img> either

You can write all of your HTML for each user row in there, but you probably want to use .append() instead in .html() since it's in a loop, or it'll get ovewritten on every loop
Sorin Ruse
@sorinr
Apr 19 2017 02:20
@MathematicsCoding the code above is for dynamically changing the img source based on data.logo variable. do not use for (var i = 0; i < users.length; i++) as it itereates through the users array without waiting for the api responses. try to use .forEach function

Apr 19 2017 03:04
@iampeternguyen what i did was just have an anchor tag on your html element referencing "#" .. and target="_blank", then on the JS, you go
window.open('https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam)

in that case:

<div><a href="goToPage() target="_blank"><span class ="title"></span></a> <span class ="snippet"> </span>
</div>

maybe that works

@XenoCoding - looks pretty good, one thing that I noticed after narrowing the screen is that in the portfolio sections, the captions for the projects don't stay with the image, but they stack up underneath two of the projects. You probably have them in separate rows? And your navbar is not responsive - it just wraps onto a new line. (Just noticed that.) Other than that, it looks good!

At any rate, I would make those links at least open in a new tab with target="_blank" because they don't seem to open under the codepen frame?
Benjamin

of course i didnt think it would do that since i put 2018 but fck it i guess
not sure, but i remember somewhere in the beginning lessons, FCC takes u thru the steps
thats how i ended up adding it
try adding it thru schools, if it shows up, then bingo
seems funny to put it as a school.

@ssbothwell yea but its a really good course, i heard alot of bootcamps actually take their students thru this course soo...yea lol

JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Apr 19 2017 04:37
@Pagnito Your issue with most of your code is async errors. You can't write out all the code line after line when you have async ajax requests. The data doesn't come back instantly so your events will misfire and have bugs. When making ajax requests, you have to either use callbacks or promises to fire post ajax events.
Also, I see multiple requests to the same api route. That's a 100% sign you need to go back and think about how to fire one request and use the data across the app.
A function that uses that api url would be a good start. ;)
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 04:39
@jdtdesigns yea but all my ajax calls are on(document).ready so i only use them once they are in the DOM
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Apr 19 2017 04:40
that doesn't make any difference as to how you use ajax requests
let's say you have some html you're creating in the js for each streamer in the array
you go through the array and fire a request for each streamer
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 04:42
ok listening
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Apr 19 2017 04:42
the request is made and the api will accept the request and then return the data once it's retrieved
during that time all the other js in your code has ran
Kris Wise
@wisekris
Apr 19 2017 04:43
@jdcorrales27 can you post your tribute page?

if you have an on click event that is dependent on an html element, it will not work if the html element isn't there yet

@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 04:43

JD Tadlock

when dealing with async stuff, you have to write the code to fire in order of when the data is received
thankfully you have an easy way to know when the data is available
Kris Wise
@wisekris
Apr 19 2017 04:47
i think margins is what I'm thinking. Its not so much centering text but centering the container for the text. this grid stuff is odd so i'm not sure if i'm using it correctly
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Apr 19 2017 04:47
in the callback of an ajax request

JD Tadlock

If an element is not in the DOM, setting $('some-el').click(function(){}); won't work. The element has to be in the DOM for an event to be added to it.

@Pagnito You'll need two for channel data and stream status. But you should only have one code block for each $.getJSON().
you can go as far as create a function that takes a request type param that will either fire a stream or channel request based on the param
My goal is to get you started on DRY coding. You'll find yourself creating much more readable/pretty code as you learn DRY tricks and patterns.

Apr 19 2017 06:48
@Pagnito so resolve is like success?
@jdtdesigns
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Apr 19 2017 06:53
@Pagnito Pretty much. Once a request you're firing, or you save some data or make a change in the DOM, you use resolve to either return the data requested or return a boolean/something else to represent a successful state.
If you refresh the code again, i just updated it to show you how you can use the process to shrink your code by 300 lines lol

@alpox
Apr 19 2017 06:58
@Pagnito you can see the .then of a promise object as applying a success function and the .catch as applying an error function
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Apr 19 2017 06:59
so jquery automatically does all that promise code stuff i did @Pagnito
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 07:00

i never seen this before
the double variable name or w/e it is i dunno

you can comma seperate vars without declaring var over and over
don't over think it lol

@sorinr
Apr 19 2017 07:07
@123xylem it moves them down mainly because of the floating left property. i see there two solutions. 1: use your wrapping row as a flex container with a justify content of space around or space between or 2: wrap all the content of your each div.col-md-4 into another div that you give the class infotextDisplayBox and remove it from parent and add to that class a max-width and the margins you want
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 07:07

Apr 19 2017 07:08
@Pagnito $(this) is the target
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 07:08
oh true
but yea are u using find() cuz .chBox is a class and can mess with it
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Apr 19 2017 07:09
@Pagnito And typically you want to keep your element grouping to it's parent. We don't want to search the whole DOM every time we want to get a group of el's.
If you're input has a class of .chBox, you can simply use $('.list-group').find('.chBox');
or $('.list-group .chBox');
but .find() has proven to be slightly faster
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 07:11
wow hehe intricate world
JD Tadlock
@jdtdesigns
Apr 19 2017 07:11

@Pagnito
Apr 19 2017 07:11

hey guys, so im doing the tic tac toe project with a table and im having trouble building the win() function which will return true when the table has a win combo with either X's or O's. now they win combos for an [1,2,3 || 4,5,6 || 7,8,9] table are : [1, 2, 3], [4, 5, 6], [7, 8, 9], [1, 4, 7], [2, 5, 8], [3, 6, 9], [1, 5, 9], [7, 5, 3] but! i dont know how i will make my table cells to represent a number and how with that i can later check if those win combos have the same values(X or O) :/ any help?

when using bootstrap 4 in codepen.io , it is not working as expected.. .. images and text are out of bounds and also text-center doesn't seem to work ..

@mystique-coder The names change in bootstrap 4 - you cannot use the same layouts and same classes anymore

okay so for the tic tac tor i have this table in my html and for each one of its cells i want to take its value("X", "O", "") and store it in an array.

<div class="game-board">
      <table id='board'>
        <tr>
          <td class="game" id="cell1"></td><td class="game" id="cell2"></td><td class="game" id="cell3"></td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
          <td class="game" id="cell4"></td><td class="game" id="cell5"></td><td class="game" id="cell6"></td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
          <td class="game" id="cell7"></td><td class="game" id="cell8"></td><td class="game" id="cell9"></td>
        </tr>
      </table>
    </div>

And here is my JS where for everyone of the tabble cells id i use forEach to take every cells value using the cellidsarray, to take its id and for each id i take its value and store it in another array called cellValues.

var cellids = ["#cell1", "#cell2", "#cell3", "#cell4", "#cell5", "#cell6", "#cell7", "#cell8", "#cell9"];
var cellValues = [];
var j=0;

function checkForWin() {
  function getCellnfo() {
    cellids.forEach(function(cell) {
      cellValues[j] = $(cell).text();
      console.log("cell Values: " + cellValues[j]);
      j++;
    });
  };

};

but it doesnt work. what did i do wrong? :/

@thodorisanta try initializing j inbetween your 2 function declarations. It might not be that at all, but since j is now global the 2nd,3rd... time u call checkForWin I guess j might already be out of bounds

@thodorisanta why dont you just loop throught the random array, record the Xs and Os position in 2 separate arrays then loop the win array and see if any of its elements is a subarray of X or O positions?
