kirontoo
@kirontoo
Jun 10 2017 02:40
@vorousja alright. so when you call your function getLatitudeLongitude, the code is running faster then you can receive data from the request. so instead of saving the longitude and latitude, you're actually saving nothing (undefined) and THEN receiving the data for logitude and latitude. Does that make sense?

    calculatorOn = false;
  } else {
    console.log('Calculator turning on.');

i get it make it true on the else.

kirontoo
@kirontoo
Jun 10 2017 02:54
@fdemaa you're referring to the if statement right? the if statement is referring to when the calculator is already on --> if (calculatorOn) is the same as: if (calfulatorOn === true) and you want to turn it off, so you would then set it to false.

I am working on my weather app. However since the api work via http the connection is refused by codepen
does anyone know solution ?
I try to use openweather map
kirontoo
@kirontoo
Jun 10 2017 02:57
@vorousja yes. I solved that problem by calling the location inside the document ready function first and then created called the api. Also instead of saving the long/lat inside a variable, I actually saved the api link as a string first and then sent it into a function using a parameter. Here's my code for reference https://codepen.io/kironto/pen/weMMmN?editors=0010

Jun 10 2017 03:23
@abohannon I'm not sure about best practice, I mean, I was taught that using the html() to add content was dangerous in and of itself. . . but I'm self taught so, I tend to try things and see what works, then ask if there's a better way. . .

@jmatty16 Appeadantly codepen no longer allows http and DarkSky no longer accepts cors. . .
@jmatty16 so I just did mine yesterday and there's a workaround out there. . .
@jmatty16 if you are using DarkSkyAPI it's an easier fix. . .
I couldn't find a way to make it work with the other weather API the project recommended so it will probably take some refactoring if you used that.

@vorousja do you have an ajax call?
@caseym94 what are you trying to accomplish?
caseym94
@caseym94
Jun 10 2017 03:37
@micqey the synchronize is like a orderchain, waits for the one before it to finish. Ex synchronize({lineNumber:0}) must finish before synchronize({lineNumber:1}). To finish a synchronize function flag + the syncrhonize lineNumber must be called. ex. flag0 = true; (ends sync 0 and starts sync1).
Sorry had a typo there, synchronize({lineNumber:0}) must finish before synchronize({lineNumber:1}).
It seems as though the placement of clearInterval(check); near the end affects weather or not window['flag' + arg.lineNumber++] = true; runs. if it does run (depending on it's placement) it goes at the wrong speed.

@abohannon - I don't know about a good tutorial, but I think that I have something like this that sets up entries for the wikipedia search (I haven't completed it yet, but I think that I got it roughed out in a codepen project.) But this just builds a set of HTML elements from the wikipedia results that are returned, using jQuery, and a separate jQuery method appends it to a result div in the DOM. Not sure if this would be helpful, but here is the function:

    function buildHtmlData( data ) {
      var htmlCode = '';
      // this is going to process the JSON data
      // returned from wikipedia API to make some
      // divs to display
      data[1].forEach( (item, i) => {
        let divStr = `
          <div class="dataItem">
            <p class="dataTitle">${item}</p>
            <p>${data[2][i]}</p>
            <a href="${data[3][i]}" target="_blank">Read More...</a>
          </div>
`;
        htmlCode += divStr;
      });
      if (!htmlCode) {
        return `<div class="noResult">No matches found!</div>`;
      }
      return htmlCode;
    }
  });

I used a little ES6 functionality in there - but basically it just breaks down the data and generates the HTML code, classes are set up to provide styling, and those are just added in with the data.

@caixeta-paula - it looks pretty good! One thing that is a little confusing is those bullet items that have the dashes in them - does that mean separate highlights in one year? I think that it might be better to make a sub-list for those years, if that is the case? It would look a little neater, in my opinion. But other than that, it looks good, nice responsive behavior. @caixeta-paula - I think that would be good - nesting the lists would provide some indentation which would be a good visual clue to the organization.
And @longnt80 's suggestion to use Bootstrap 3 is good to consider, since that is what the FCC lessons are based on (unless they've made some updates?) There are differences between 3 and 4 that are significant.

your h4 in #subdisplay is floated to the right

overflow: hidden; is just one way to clear the float

Hey guys - I have a problem in my project. I make something on full window canvas. But now I realised I need second canvas on top - because things on one canvas will be erased and second one should stay the same. So I made second canvas, set both of them to position absolutely. Problem is here: now body dimensions are 0x0 and therefore there is no background color, everything is white. However, canvases work just fine. I understand that this has something to do with absolutely positioned elements not being counted into parents dimensions, but I can't overcome it :( I just want body to have window dimensions. Here's the code:
(obviously variables are already declared)
<body>
    <canvas id="canvas1"></canvas>
    <canvas id="canvas2"></canvas>
</body>
body {
    padding: 0;
    margin: 0;
    background: #000;
    position: relative;
}
canvas {
    display: block;
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
}
canvas1.width = window.innerWidth;
canvas1.height = window.innerHeight;
canvas2.width = window.innerWidth;
canvas2.height = window.innerHeight;

Hi, I’m trying to write a function which pauses JavaScript code execution for some time and then calls another function called computerTurn. So far I have this:

var timer = 0;
function test() {
  if (timer == 1) {
    computerTurn();
  } else {
    setTimeout(test, 3000);
  }
  setTimeout((timer = 1), 3000);
  console.log("pause");
}

But it seems to work only for the first time. Next time there is no pause and the code start to execute immediately (computerTurn changes timer back to 0. I did not forget on it). Anybody knows why?

@longnt80 not for long - the only really 'canvas' thing that is used there is drawing line from point to point and decreasing everythings opacity in loop until it disappears. Everything else is pure math, physics and obviously js :D Based on starting and target point, initial velocity for firework is calculated, so when its y-axis velocity decreases to 0, it should at the same time reach target. Then particles are created - every with random angle and velocity. When there are 150 of them in a single explosion, nice, dense effect is created :D

@MatLang when you open console (F12 in Chrome) you see that you are getting mixed content warnng. That is because codepen is loaded over https and you are requesting http endpoint. So if your quote api supports https the only thing you need to do is to add an s to the url so it's "https://api.forismatic.com/api/1.0/?method=getQuote&key=XXXXX&format=jsonp&jsonp=?&lang=en"

this is the best way?

@BrunoM24 are you familiar with postfix notation?
@BrunoM24 What I would do is convert your array to postfix when the equal button is pressed and then evaluate the postfix expression. A more advanced version would be to convert continuously when a symbol is pressed.
@BrunoM24 here's a handy resource on how to convert infix (standard notation) to postfix

@JechtTyre you should leverage on media queries for responsive designs, but i would like to think using frameworks is not a measure of not having a strong foundation in fundamentals, because regardless of your use of the framework you will still have to do a lot of tweeking to suit the desired design for your client, and requires you know your way around css, js and html

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the random quote machine project, here is the code I wrote so far but it's not working at all not even the console log statement is printing anything.
$(document).ready(function() {
  var quoteAPI = "http://quotesondesign.com/wp-json/posts?filter[orderby]=rand&filter[posts_per_page]=1.json";
  $("#getQuote").on("click", function() {
    console.log("it was clicked!");
    $.getJSON(quoteAPI, function(data) {
      $(".quote").html(html.content);
      $(".author").html(html.title);
    });
  });
});

Ken Haduch

Jun 10 2017 17:32
@kuragang - the alignment looks okay on a wide screen. The problem is that you are using the grid to achieve centering, and it's not really too easy to do that. Most navbars seem to align the buttons to one or the other side, and that's easier to do. A different strategy would be better. You can center align the buttons, but if they are too large to fit side by side on a small screen, then you'll have trouble there. Once again, the Bootstrap navbar then has the collapsed behavior so that isn't an issue there. Maybe others would have different ideas to help you?

@louiss0 - what kind of page are you trying to build? Is it the tribute page? First, select a topic - something that you can find enough information to generate a decent sized page. Then get the text - title for the page, an image, etc. Set up the basic page, just displaying it as plain (or close to plain) text. Then start to add styling information - you can see the example page, you would find it easiest to mimic that style.

I'm about to start the tic tac toe project, and I learned a little bit of react. I'm planning it out right now, and I don't see react being useful. Any opinions? In what situations do people generally use react?
Johnny
@jtan3
Jun 10 2017 21:37
@rugano you have the class =" invisible " might be affecting it
@fdemaa try console.log all 3 takeOrder();
@tlawless94 where did you learn react?

@JamesCzekaj you have to research , fcc doesn t really teach you that much, so you have to read and learn first, and then apply that;

what is trying to say is dont go and just look a portfolio and copy the code , xd

@kirontoo that great man i will install it then
