@khaduch Yes, it is an actual <table>. It seems to be window size dependent; I'm home now and on my bigger monitor chrome doesn't show the lines... I played around with changing the window size and it comes and goes. So it is a chrome rendering artifact. Here's the codePen if you want to check it out in context...

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm posting a form. I have text input fields. You type the text and the value inside gets send when you click the submit button. I want to make two separate buttons. The value of one is yes and the value of the other is no. I want it so that the user can click one of those buttons, and it will sort of hang on to that value until the submit button is clicked. Do I just give input type=button elements a value attribute and that will work or?
maybe i'll just use radio but I thought a button would be nicer

@AzFalconer i just dont know that if you click a button having a value and a name, that when you later submit the form the value will be passed as req.body.name or whatever. Not sure if it works with buttons
@AzFalconer I figured out an alternative anyways. Thanks

Jul 30 2017 01:45
@quin2 - I think that you'll have trouble with this because the AJAX operation is asynchronous - the callback function will be invoked some time later when the data transaction is complete. There is an immediate return from the $.ajax() method, but it is not going to be the data that you are looking for. For all intents and purposes, the return from $.ajax() is not meaningful, as far as I know. I don't even see in the documentation where it is described. The real data that you are getting is coming back as a result of the invocation of the callback function for a successful transaction.

@sabin20 Your footer file is at: https://codepen.io/sabin20/pen/EvPgMd.html
include the .html after your pen to link to it that way
The .load method, by the way, is deprecated in jQuery 3.x in case you are using that version

if the latter,

Hey, all.

Getting this error in my IDE: "Property innerHTML is not defined in type NodeList" for the JS code: document.getElementsByTagName("body").innerHTML = channelContainer;

Can someone explain this, please?

Darth Skywalker
@AdiSkywalker
Jul 30 2017 06:54
@kevinwr It should be
document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].innerHTML = channelContainer;
getElementsByTagName gives you NodeList which is an array like object that contains actual Node
Kevin
@kevinwr
Jul 30 2017 06:54
@AdiSkywalker why [0]?
Darth Skywalker
@AdiSkywalker
Jul 30 2017 06:55
Since there is only one body, you can be certain that it will be at 0th index
Kevin
@kevinwr
Jul 30 2017 06:55
ah. hmmm. Is that only for tagname?
I've never had to do anything like that for tag by ID or anything
Darth Skywalker
@AdiSkywalker
Jul 30 2017 06:56
No.. It will work equally well with getElementsByTagName('div)` but in that case you will have programmatically detect correct div from the list of divs you get out of it
Kevin
@kevinwr
Jul 30 2017 06:56
Never heard of that before either. In the examples I saw, they didn't have that either. Guess I'll have to do some reading on that

Yeah.. getElementById gives you one node (not NodeList)

one is element other is elements

Ok, can someone tell me what properties from the Twitch API do I need to be using to tell whether a channel is online or offline? Right now, I'm considering a channel to be offline when Stream = null, and a channel to be online when stream.stream_type = "live" and stream !== null.

That's according to some of the documentation I've read. That said, the api data for the channel https://www.twitch.tv/food shows stream: null, which the API documentation says stream: null as an offline channel, but when you go to the twitch website, it shows them as being "LIVE"

So I'm really confused

so I'm guessing it's something with the endpoint that allows you to only use the channel name

@jimtryon I'm here in the Boise/Treasure valley area in Idaho. In this area, it's really nice in most ways. People are generally nice, area is beautiful (particularly more towards boise since Boise is butted up right next to the foothills).

Most from other large cities would definitely find Idaho boring (especially Lewiston). For me, it's nice and it's growing in this area quite a bit. Becoming a big tech area in Boise

my school just built a huge new computer science department building in downtown Boise

Boise has a pop of 223,154. With it's neighboring cities that all run together, the treasure valley is 664,422. Small compared to other places, for sure. However, again, it's growing a lot lately, and it has a nice middle ground between a big city feel and small city feel. I like it

Kevin
@kevinwr
Jul 30 2017 07:57
though this last winter was the most snow we saw in this area in like 30 years. The city wasn't expecting it, so clean-up resources were low, and it made it kinda' hell
but relatively, it still wasn't bad compared to other areas of the U.S.

since u seems to know about it, may i ask a suggestion?
what's the best practice to have an effect on click?
In my case the effect is a color change of the icon.
I tried using a classAdd but it works only for the first click
should i use the jquery animate function?
korzo
@korzo
Jul 30 2017 10:23
@koop4 You have to remove class later, either at the end of the animation or using setTimeout
Roberto Di Lillo
@koop4
Jul 30 2017 10:24
yeah i though about using set timeout, but it didn't sound like a best practice
is there any other way?
korzo
@korzo
Jul 30 2017 10:26
@koop4 Maybe mouseleave or if you use animation in added class, then animationend event
Roberto Di Lillo
@koop4
Jul 30 2017 10:27
mouse leave won't work in this case since after click the user could click again without leaving the icon
gonna look for this animationend event
korzo
@korzo
Jul 30 2017 10:28
@koop4 also depends if you want to debounce clicks or not
You can remove the class on next click and add it again
Roberto Di Lillo
@koop4
Jul 30 2017 10:29
what's the goal of debouncing?
avoiding to interrupt th previous animation?
korzo
@korzo
Jul 30 2017 10:29
Yes
Or trigger event too often
@koop4 Because some animations may look silly, when restarted in the middle of loop

Hi, I need some help...
I have a navigation bar and I'm using bootstrap. The navigation bar couldn't display a dropdown with hover so I made my own CSS rules for it. But what happened now is that, the pages with col-md-# classes have moved and are no longer in the center...
Not sure how to make the contents of the page go in the center like it did before.

Here's a pic of what it looks like: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DF_T25qVoAA9EJ2.jpg:large

Even after the hover the elements stay in that position.

@moT01 You're right, how do I prevent that? Is there a way to tell bootstrap that they're hidden and not "on" the page until hover? (but still retain the placement of the elements below the navigation bar)
Not sure why it does that, initially the display is set to hidden...
Darth Skywalker

@ldocherty1 I'm looking right now, but not sure I understand the question
you just want a <hr> at the bottom of the page?
I see this on line 70:
 <!-- TEXT AND PIC 2nd ROW -->
@ldocherty1 Anyway, if I understand your question, you need to add this after your row:
      <div class="row">
        <div class="col">
          <hr>
        </div>
      </div>
Right before the last </div> that closes your container
(line 83-87)

when i make a top level repo its pavelyeganov.github.io?
tho that wouldnt really matter since im giving it a custom domain right?

@Pagnito I think it does matter, I'm guessing github just redirects to your custom domain via DNS. I've never worked with custom domains on Github though, so I'm probably not the best person to ask :/

basically I am customizing a found script for my need and want to align a text inside h1 tag top left corner. I could use text-align: left but why it doesn't work with position property?

hey guys, quick question: For the Tic Tac Toe project, would it be a bad idea to use a table for the grid? Or should I stick to using divs?
iso
@iso1048
Jul 30 2017 20:41
@Kowalatam give the specific image an id and target that id to make the changes you want.
Trommelochse
@Trommelochse
Jul 30 2017 20:41
that is totally up to you :) I would use divs, because it's less code and doesn't have any disadvantage in this case @AmitP88
if you are planning on using jQuery, the table mit be a bit less intuitive to use
iso
@iso1048
Jul 30 2017 20:45
@narmin-h it does not work with position property since h1 is a block-level element so by default takes up the whole width of the screen....that may be the issue i think.

@Kowalatam

@Kowalatam you can apply a style attribute directly to the img element.
@Kowalatam or - use !important (but that is a last resort!)
Elizabeth Paul
@Kowalatam

@gothamknight if it is the reason can you explain why it works for the toggle element? as it is also a block level element.
Johnny
@JohnnyBizzel
Jul 30 2017 20:55
@Kowalatam This is SVG but it's the same idea for HTML https://codepen.io/elrumordelaluz/pen/JdWYpB
Elizabeth Paul
@Kowalatam
Jul 30 2017 20:56
@JohnnyBizzel @gothamknight when the id is in the div that contains the img and not in the img, the picture is how i want it to be, but adding style to other img affected it, moving the id to the specific img doesn't look same as when its with the div though.
Trommelochse
@Trommelochse

@narmin-h if you set the position of an element to absolute, the other elements will behave as if the absolute positioned element does not exist

@Kowalatam CSS is like a tree with branches. If you don't target the correct branch you won't style the correct element. Without seeing the code I can't help much.

@artoodeeto it's because bootstrap column classes have by default a padding
aRtoo

@Trommelochse yea. i thought padding: 0; its not working i dont have ;
Trommelochse
@Trommelochse
Jul 30 2017 21:02
you have to give those col-md4 divs an additional class
and then .yourclass { padding:0 }
;
semicolon after the 0, to be clean

//import ReactDOM from 'react-dom'
//import React from 'react'
const { Router, Route, browserHistory, IndexRoute  } = 'react-router';
@teghmehta
on codepen u linking the library directly, no import needed (also codepen dont have support for import/require)
react-dom depends on react
soo react should be loaded first.. check ur settings
and also missing jquery library
finally.... <Table result={this.state.data} />
u passing data state as result
sooo inside Table component to access that data.. should be this.props.result

Can someone tell me what's wrong with the following code?

let x = document.querySelectorAll(".channelDetails");
 for (let i = 0; i < x.length; i++) {
    x[i].onmouseover = function() {
        x[i].style.backgroundColor = "rgba(31, 20, 51, 0.54)";
    }
 }

I have a divs with the class "channelDetails", and I'm trying to change the background color of the div when the mouse moves over the div. Right now. It's not working.
