Hi guys, i'm working on twitch api project. What is the best approach to refresh the ui after get all callback from the api ?

hey guys I am trying to solve “where do I belong” with his code

function getIndexToIns(arr, num) {
 var newArray = arr.push(num).sort;
 arr.sort();
 var lowestIndex = 0;
 for (i=0;i<arr.length;i++){
   if (arr[i] <= num){
     lowestIndex = arr[i];
   }
 }
 return arr.indexOf(lowestIndex);
}

getIndexToIns([3, 10, 5], 3);

it seems to work for 5 out of the 7 arr and num they call for, but it wont work for the other 2, including the arr and num im calling for in this code.
can anyone suggest anything? I dont understand why is not returning 0 index, the other ones work just fine.

Aug 21 2017 04:28
@gothamknight Hmmm, I'm not sure what bootstrap is doing to those. They have some display: flex stuff keeping you from making them 0px wide
Why do you want them to be 0px?

@gothamknight This will get rid of those:

@1532j0004kg if you use array you have to make your own quotes and they are originals, unless you are copying someone elses quotes. Using a API, You get more quotes than what you create usually.

Hi, how can I do the following using CSS. Within #part2 move down the classes section-heading and section-subheading by margin-top:4rem;

Here is my attempt

#part2 > .section-heading, .section-subheading   {
    margin-top: 4rem;
}

Is that correct? when I tested it out it only applies it to my subheading not the main title?

@SkyC0der https://codepen.io/liamdocherty1/pen/dzvqbB. I tried adding mt-4 to the class. Possibly done it wrong due to it not moving.

Just to confirm, within #part2 I'm trying to move down the classes section-heading and section-subheading by margin-top:4rem;

Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Aug 21 2017 15:35
@ldocherty1 When I add mt-4 to that div, it moves down

Be sure to put it in a row too:

      <div class="row">
        <div class="col text-center">
          <h2 class="section-heading mt-4">Services</h2>
          <h3 class="section-subheading">Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur.</h3>
        </div>
      </div>

Change that mt-4 to mt-5, mt-3, etc.. and watch it move around

You can also just use CSS:
#part2 .section-heading {
  margin-top: 4rem;
}

#part2 .section-subheading {
  margin-top: 3rem;
}

This is the CSS class:

.navbarTextColor {

}

and this is the <div>:

<div class="collapse navbar-collapse navbar-right navbarTextColor" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
                    <ul class="nav navbar-nav">

@minoy You appear to have a Bootstrap 3 navbar. Add this CSS to your project and change the colors as desired.

.navbar-default .navbar-nav > li > a {
  color: #777;
}
.navbar-default .navbar-nav > li > a:hover,
.navbar-default .navbar-nav > li > a:focus {
  color: #333;
  background-color: transparent;
}
.navbar-default .navbar-nav > .active > a,
.navbar-default .navbar-nav > .active > a:hover,
.navbar-default .navbar-nav > .active > a:focus {
  color: #555;
  background-color: #e7e7e7;
}

This will override the bootstrap default colors. It's from here: https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/twitter-bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.css

Hey guys i need help on a little math here
What would this mean? I'm using a forza tuning calculator & i dont know what this means. Its mathso you guys might be able to help
`Enter the strength in the form of whole percentage. The accepted Range is 1 to 200 (in increments of 1), where 100 = 100%. 100% represents default calculator output.
My front spring is 819.8 Pounds, so how would i turn that into a percentage?

Array starts with [1, 1]
nextnumber = last number of array + second to last number of array
push nextnumber

Aug 21 2017 22:12
@gauravmagan My solution is to not use a library to build a table - use JS like I showed you in that codepen
No libraries needed, and the CSS styling is taken directly from bootstrap.css
  data.forEach((user, i) => tableHTML +=
    `<tr>
       <td>${i + 1}</td>
       <td class="user" onclick="window.open('https://freecodecamp.org/${user.username}')">
         <img height="64" src="${user.img}">${user.username}
       </td>
       <td>${user.recent}</td>
       <td>${user.alltime}</td>
     </tr>`
  );

@SkyC0der actually the above procedure is i required to test
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Aug 21 2017 22:21
@gauravmagan i is not required
@iamknox I believe your container needs a height:
.buttons {
  display: flex;
  flex-direction: column;
  min-height: 130px;
}

.notplus {
  flex: 1 100%;
}
.plus {
  flex: 2 100%;
}
To be honest though, flex + bootstrap might work against you with a calculator design. Buttons should not be percentage sized, my finger or mouse pointer that clicks the calculator buttons does not change size.
Andrew Knox
@iamknox
Aug 21 2017 22:25
So there is a better solution without flex that is solely bootstrap? @SkyC0der
Gulsvi

@iamknox It depends on the design you want, but I would not use bootstrap or flex. Just standard inline-block elements

@SkyC0der im giving leaders on FCC leaderboard links to each username to go to their FCC account page, but for some reason the link is just adding on to the filepath
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Aug 21 2017 23:21
How are you creating the links? @Pagnito
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Aug 21 2017 23:22
<a className="link" target="-blank" href="freecodecamp.org/{leader.username}">{leader.username}</a>
oh wait
i think i know why lol
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Aug 21 2017 23:22
missing https
and _blank not -blank
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Aug 21 2017 23:23
oh ya
-blank worked too tho
now i cant add the usename on to the path
{leader.username} doesnt work
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Aug 21 2017 23:26
-blank will look for an open tab with a title named "-blank" and switch to that. If it doesn't exist, it'll open a new tab
@Pagnito Would it not be: "https://freecodecamp.org/" + {leader.username}
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Aug 21 2017 23:27
i thought so too
but that couldnt even compile
within the quotes it compiled
but this is what it gives me
hold on
We couldn't find a page for /%7Bleader.username%7D
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
Aug 21 2017 23:28
that defeinitely means it doesn't see the varialbe - sees it all as text

I'm not sure if any of you know about Off-Canvas CSS and JS but I've run into a bit of trouble :worried: in getting the code to work and was wondering if anyone would like to help debug :computer: it and maybe help explain to me why I got it all wrong... Thanks for your :clock1: time :)

Aha, so it would be:
{`"https://freecodecamp.org/${leader.username}"`}
I cannot get formatting down lol

@culturesync what is Off-Canvas CSS?
CuttureSync
@culturesync
Aug 21 2017 23:34
I meant to say off canvas in CSS for styling purposes.... @longnt80
It's the sames thing as having an Off-Canvas Nav/Menu
Off-Canvas usually means that an 'item' or 'element' is off the dom or body of the page
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Aug 21 2017 23:36
@culturesync what is the off-canvas element in the pen?
CuttureSync
@culturesync
Aug 21 2017 23:36
of course until told to... usually by a click or toggle... to come into view
@longnt80 the off canvas element in the pen is the .content

@culturesync so it is like a slider with what you're trying to do

@culturesync
Aug 21 2017 23:40
The only difference is I want my Navigation (which in my pen is in my header) to stay on the main body of the page.... while the . content changes like a slider
@BurakAy thank you for your input

The code I am reverse engineering and then tweaking is from an off canvas nav pen made by someone else. I figured If I played around with it I could tailor it to what I am looking for.
I made some comments in the pen code to help explain the areas that are glitching... I hope that helps

I see this in a Jquery code: $('.class').hide('fade', 500); Can someone explain me what is inside the hide() ? I can't understand what parameter is "fade"... see the docs here http://api.jquery.com/hide/

@aguyinmontreal look at jquery ui. fade is a string which determines how the hide will occur. https://jqueryui.com/hide/
